Anybody got any "WTF?" moments?

if you do, please post it below. I'm sure there are some wierd ones...

here are mine.

one time, my brother was helping someone with the Frostfire mission, and he was asked to pull some of the mob to ease things up. so, he edged his way forward to get into range...

...and hit a patch of ice. he slid RIGHT up to Frosty, who proceeded to wail on him in all of his 6-person team glory, unleashing imps, holds, fireballs, and frostbreath on my brother's poor archery blaster as the rest of the team did their best to utilize the distraction and defeat the enemy mob. what shocked me was that he lived throughout the whole thing, and almost singlehandedly took out the EB at level 13. my TANKER died twice in that fight. CURSE HIM!

the second is also with that same character, he was meeting with a team in atlas Plaza when he saw an oddly familiar person across the street. he wandered over, and found that somehow a custom boss from an AE mission of his had gotten CRUCIFIED right in Atlas Park. closer examination revealed that it was actually four or five custom characters occupying the same physical space, posed in a "T" that only ny brother could see. Wha? anyone else seen this?

have at it.

The t pose is what models here do when they aren't given any animation instructions. This was most likely a client side glitch which is why they didn't get told to go into an idle stance. I would love to see a demo record of one of these rare events to see if they go into that pose again or if it would be corrected.

The only WTF I can think of was when I was franticly trying to find my old birthday thread. I spent several minutes checking my post log and retrying search before I noticed I had a new PM from Mod8 ;_;.

I've got two I'd like to share.

The first one took place during Vivacious Virandis "Place weapons in Freakshow hideout" mission. When I clicked on the glowie, I was ambushed by Freakshow, but they shouted "Stomp those ghoombas!" or something to that effect. They then proceeded to attack the other Freakshow in the building. (Paragonwiki says this is a known bug and that they're supposed to be The Family, but I didn't know about it at the time. =P)

The second one took place in Sharkhead. This was my first encounter with the Ghost of Scrapyards buggy AI. I got a team together and the instant we attacked him, he ran towards the nearest Arachnos Drone and got killed. It's as if he said "You know what, Screw you all! I'm gonna get killed anyway, so I think I'll save myself the time! NO BADGE FOR U!!!"

Pretty common-place among the veterans I'm sure, but I thought they were funny. =D

This one time, at band camp...

(That joke would work better if so many of my best true life stories HADN'T actually happened at band camp! Heck, it's where I saw my first real live naked woman! And if my New Year's resolution works out, soon I'll see my second one!)

But to the matter at hand...it's not a glitch or anything, but one of my biggest WTF moments came a month or so after I started playing, and really knew NOTHING about CoH. I was in a mission, feeling all full of myself as I mowed down one Council member after another. I was master of all I surveyed...a golden god...and then...holy crap, that @#$% just turned into a werewolf! Cosmic faceplant.

I tell ya...if I had been wearing pants I would've had to change them...

Same thing happened to me. Also happened when I was fighting the Red Caps... defeated one of them, who then morphed into a red-con Boss. Major faceplant and major WTF moment. This was during my first-ever Red Cap mission so I had no idea they could do that. To this day, I hate Red Caps. They're just nasty, little !@$%*!'s.

Oh I've had a few.

STRANGE BUILD... Standing in Talos one day I heard a Defender advertsing, spamming himself actually, as the ulimate H3ALOR. Turned out our boy was on the train platform directly across from me so I HAD to see what made him the "Ultimate healer" Okay only attack power he had was the first one he HAD to take at level one and I will assume he wasted no enhancement slots on it. A little strange but I've seen that before. Of course he had every available power he could from Empathy and added the Medicine pool to the mix. Now this is where it got WIERD and I found myself WTFing? He had Hover and Flight, Recall Friend and Teleport, Hasten and Super Speed. Okay I could see Recall freind in THAT build .. TP the fallen to safety and rez. I could see Hasten so his "Heals" came back faster. I even know people with TP as their travel mode of choice taking hover so they don't fall if they take too long between teleport clicks.. but why anyone LOL needed 3 permanent travel powers was beyond me. Seemed like he could have picked one actual Travel power, and used at least 2 power slot on something else to add to his TOTAL SUPPORT ROLE. I guess he wanted to be able to get there no matter what.

STRANGE VILLAINS... On COV I hooked up with a team in my early 20s and we did a door mission. Stepped inside and found ourselves staring and 40+ Villains. Okay mission is bugged it happens but these were like nothing I had ever seem before, or ever again, anywhere in the game. Actually hard to even describe they were sort of a cross between a Dark Nova from the Warshade powerset and a Coralax but with really long tentacles and they were just floating there inside the room. As we turned to leave someone must have gotten too close and aggroed and the whole team got one shotted by a strange electrical attack like lightning that was tinted blue.. just like the creatures themselves. not sure if it was some experimental villain the Devs were trying out that managed to escape via bug into our mission or just a horrible bugged mutations of several established beings but they definately qualified for a WFT? Team leader sent a bug report and we moved on so I have no idea what the explanation was but it was a very unual day in Sharkhead.

STRANGE NPC REPLY... We all are used to the standards you locate the named Lieutenant or Boss in the mission and the call out your name or whoever's name the mission belongs to on a team and then hurl some insult or threat. I soloed one day on a Scrapper and got to that room and instead of the usual insult/threat I got "Oh ______ Can we talk about this for a minute? Let's work something out?" Okay not a direct quote it's been a while but unlike any other Boss I ever faced this guy seemed terrified and wanted to negotiate a peaceful solution? hehehehe After I got done laughing I cleared the room but it makes my WTF list just because it was so funny I had to stop laughing before I could keep playing

STRANGE TATICS OR ATTACK THAT WORKED... Oh gee I have had so many of those "Okay how did he do that and why are we all still alive" Moments I have no way to narrow it to one. So I'll end here and let someone else continue the fun. This is a cool thread :-D

Your brother most likely just used purples. Very few people in the game understand why they're winning when they're winning and why they're losing when they're losing.

Once, my level 9 blaster got invited to a level 10-12 team doing frostfire. Throughout the mission, I carefully saved up 4 purples, a breakfree, and probably some damage or accuracy in the last two spots. The rest of the team was all worrying about how tough Frostfire was going to be. Trying to explain how I'd brought the right insps and that he'd be easy met with complete incomprehension.

We get to FF. The team cowers outside his room. Level 9 blaster (though I believe I'd leveled to 10) runs in, pops proper insps, buildup, power thrust, ice bolt, ice blast, probably some brawls or somesuch, aim, more of the same, he went down before my lucks ran out and spent the entire fight plastered up against a wall from power thrust. I don't think he even summoned an imp.

Wicked Wendy: The monsters in your second story sound like Storm Elementals. They only appear redside in a few end-game arcs... but if I recall correctly, it is a known bug that they appear in missions they shouldn't. Don't remember the whys and wherefores - anyone?

Almost a month ago, when my Scrapper was in the lowbie range of 10-15,I went afk which I normally do and usually very safe with no wondering patrol or ambush to get me on a sewer map. I came back and was pretty shocked to find Scrapper dead on the ground. The part that got the "WTF" moment? I didn't get killed by any npc's. Someone's MasterMind Thugs took me down and very easily too(their pets being in the 35+ range.) Definately one the most unusual situations for me in a long while to occur.

[Beta Testers]Zombie Man: Harlot is Swan's nickname too. And Dominatrix. And Sister Psyche. And Mynx. And Bobcat. And Synapse.

If I recall, you would get this when you had an open newspaper mission while they did a major (or possibly any) patch.

That blue thing running around saying "Cookies are sometimes food" is Praetorian Cookie Monster!

Yeah, then it became Vanguard Sword that the game would default to, and then later Cimerorans. A bit before AE went live it was custom enemies in Longbow uniforms and no attacks or defenses that still gave full xp. i had one of these scanner leftovers on an alt the other week and i think it's back to Vanguard Sword as the default enemy group. Those bastards hit hard when they're +5 to a level 30 solo character.

When the fire fighting missions in Steel Canyon were in the works on test Storm Elementals would appear in place of where the fires spawn now. It was interesting.

Yesterday was a good one got a team going and started doing a arc with an AV at the end.

Anywho had this guy who had ninja run on the whole time, when confronted by a mob he would run in first, run around and through the mob and then go hide in another room or stand there and get killed. At other times he would stand and fight like a beast.

After awhile me and the brute on the team are like "are you ok"?Which he said fine or here(?)so before the final mish he posts this in team chat "sorry team didn't realize my kid was on,sorry for any problems he might have caused you".

No problem, but like the stalker on the team said "well that explains alot".

A long time ago this happened to my MM, but all the enemies became high-level 7th Generation Paragon Protectors. Also the mision became "Defeat Villain_Name" and any reference to his group said "Villain_Group"

Another WTF moment occoured when my mission was missing half the map. It was quite interesting turning a corner, hitting a wall of blackness and falling a long distance.

The first time somebody used a nuke on me . . . . . . . had never seen them before and i was well . . . . i wasnt very clear on what just happened!

You guys know that bug in where another player sometimes appears in your mission?

Well, a few years ago, a team I was on had another entire team enter ours. Most of us had faceplanted and were resurrected by the other team.

Yeah, that happened to me too on my level 10 MM. I entered the mission only to be greeted by level 25 Slag Golems. The mission also referred to "Villain_Name" and the intro text was "It was a long walk on a hot day, time to make Villain_group pay for your trouble."

Yes, definitely sounds like the Lanaruu faction of Storm Elementals: Squall Elemental, Tempest Elemental, and Cyclone Elemental. They look like this:

They don't "only appear redside in a few end-game arcs"; there are one or two CoV arcs which contain Lanaruu, but you can find them 'in the wild', as it were, in The Storm Palace, part of the Shadow Shard.

Everytime my farm won't reset it's a "wth" moment.

Everytime I run through a farm and I get an entire set of Calibrated Accuracy >.> it's a "WTH????" moment.

Oh I've had a couple of said "WTH" Moments. One of my personal favorites:

Yes, I got my butt kicked by a no-armed Freakshow boss. I figure my toon was in too much shock from the image of a No-arms Freak Show Tank charging at me to fight properly.

I'd only read about it, figured I'd never run across something cool like that. Then I did. As you can tell, we got through about 1/3 of the map, wondering why there were no enemies. (Sorry pretty-graphics fans, old resolution, I have it set better now.)

Within the last couple of months I broke out my rarely played SS/Invul Brute (level 15ish) and went into a Newspaper mission that was a "kidnap Citizen X from Bad Guy Group Y."

So I get into the first room and there's nothing to fight. "That's weird," I tell myself, and walk into another. Same thing.

I walk through an empty warehouse and found the citizen cowering by himself. Escort him back to the exit without being ambushed.

Weirdest thing I ever saw. 5 years in this game and I never encountered a map sans enemies before.
