Governments have fallen to the power of social media. Gaming companies can too.
While Arcanaville I rarely thing you are wrong (Because you aren't) this time I think you are. While it may not bee good, the ugly truth is the customer is allowed to act that way, those providing the service are not. It is a horrid double standard, but the world is full of them.

But if you make your character stand really really still, you can draw costume outlines on your screen with a highlighter and kinda get the same effect, right?
|
If Jay was on the eastern side and the humour was heading west then I might agree with you... I find him amusing, but then I usually find your posts amusing as well, so there's no accounting for taste
A) Please have your humor-detection circuitry examined. It's faulty.
b) Sure you would. Is that what your mommy told you? /em pat... pat... pat... |
b) = plain insulting. Kindly leave my mother out of this. Just because our opinions do not meet on the level doesn't mean you have any entitlement to attack me specifically for no real reason.
Your lack of understanding does not Jay a bad dev make.
It just means you have "No idea". And the irony of someone who claims he can do Jay's job better complaining about "his ego" is priceless. |
Up until this point, I did think you were a decent poster who had a bit more grip on calm than I did at the time of posting (Mostly due to repeated dissapointments from the costume design dep in the past)
But personal attacks? Really?
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Would you take away the Vanguard, Roman, and upcoming Clockwork pieces?
|
Because it doesn't seem to me like we aren't getting pieces because they don't want us to look like NPCs. |
They don't seem totally opposed to giving us some pieces, or even complete sets. It appears totally random/arbitrary that we get some pieces and not others. |
I have no idea why they do this.
But I've wondered if it's due to a combination of things, like clipping issues, time taken to develop them suitable for player sliding scales in size etc, or other reasons.

I have a perfectly good, sense of humour, thanks very much. Granted it might not be the same as Jays/US humour. But thats niether here nor there.

"Kindly leave my mother out of this" implies I said something negative about your mother. I didn't, and wouldn't. I simply derided your assertion that you could do Jay's job better than he could. You can take it as a personal attack if you choose, or you can view it as an attack on your silly assertion, which is what it was.
Your lack of understanding does not Jay a bad dev make.

No. I'm claim I could do so based on a level of professionalism when it comes to design and communication. Good communication examples are BaBs, WW, Castle... heck, any of the other Devs.
Up until this point, I did think you were a decent poster who had a bit more grip on calm than I did at the time of posting (Mostly due to repeated dissapointments from the costume design dep in the past) But personal attacks? Really? |
That having been said, it is the job of the community reps to effectively communicate with the player-base, and one of them should have said "uhm... (many of) the players seem to think this is a PC costume set... we really should immediately correct that misconception" or, if they didn't know, they should have asked Jay/WW if it was an NPC-exclusive costume or not. As much as I like our CR team, and appreciate Ocho's follow-up post, they didn't step up to the plate quite fast enough this time. I don't expect a fast reaction to all threads. I do, however, think a thread started by a dev, should require more careful monitoring and rapid response.
On the matter of personal attacks, if you don't like them, don't use them (which you most assuredly did in your "anti-Jay" posts).
Usually, I tend to be a bit of a good-humored smart-[WARNING EXPLICIT LYRICS], but if I think someone's acting like an [WARNING EXPLICIT LYRICS], I have no problem pointing it out. In this case, the hypocrisy and personal attacks against Jay caught my attention. I still tried to keep my responses somewhat light-heated. I may or may not have succeeded. Clearly you think I did not.
I think my criticism on this thread has been pretty even-handed. You can, of course, disagree. That's the beauty of the forums.
Oh look! Someone neg rep'ed me. <shrug>
Then you get that antagonizing bit of dribble from a DEV. Honestly, it's not a big deal but when you go and 'slap' your playerbase in the face with those type of comments...well...it's not the best move. It hasn't changed my opinion of the game and it is one DEV only kinda stirring the pot. Ah well. A bit immature and tasteless but that's just my opinion
|
[sarcasm] Jay has a weird posting style, oh the horror, how DARE he have a different posting style, shame on him. [/sarcasm]
Jay basically said, in his unusual way, that he was nervous to reply and knew he would get flamed; that it's the individual's fault for jumping to conclusions; and, to get over it.
Instead, several players have thrown insults back at him, criticizing his professionalism and basically are coming across like a bunch of temper tantrums.
I didn't find anything offensive in his post.
It wouldn't have mattered how Jay posted anyhow. If he'd just said:
"Stop jumping to conclusions. No one said you'd be getting this as a costume. It's an NPC not a player."
Well the same people would still be ******** at him about not getting the costume piece and blaming him etc.
The devs in this game communicate with their forum community more than just about any other MMO in history. We're spoiled that they communicate on anything like the level that they do. We can always hope they do more and do what they do however we think would be better, but to be angry with them over it is too much.
|
Some went so far as to say how uncool they thought Jay was or how unimpressed they were with WW as a result. While those feelings may be true, I think they point to a significantly overblown sense of entitlement about what the devs owe us here on these forums ... and maybe in-game.
*snippet* When those things happen I express my unhappiness, sometimes in no uncertain terms, but I don't go after the devs on a personal level. Some people in this thread did. |
*snippet*It's a sense of certain things, mostly costumes, could be better, so much better. And yet we are stuck with Jay and his non-sensical posts, his ego and his 'reasons' for stuff simply not happening. The Resistance armour here, the PPD Shell armour. Not robes, because I can understand WHY that doesnt happen. It probably would look horrible. The others? No idea.
|
Like someone else said, if Jay changed the old costumes in the costume creator, many players would scream bloody murder over it.
And I am sure Jay has good "reasons for stuff simply not happening".
I don't think he sits in his cubicle, laughing maniacly and chuckling and thinking "Oh look at the players writing with agony over not being able to have the PPD hardsuit".
Maybe you could ask him nicely with a PM
And maybe it's already been discussed on the forums over 'why', I'm not sure. There is a costume request thread that is over 1000 posts long though, maybe it's buried somewhere in that.

*Glances around the thread* Huh.
As disappointing as having assumptions deflated that a certain costume set would be available to the playerbase, despite there being no claims made by NCSoft or their representatives that this would be the case, could certainly be for those who like the new shiny, I must say the reaction to the news by some people is even more disappointing.
To summarise, a screenie with a new costume is posted as a teaser for GR, some players assume that it will be available to players (despite no concrete evidence). When this assumption starts getting out of hand Sexy Jay comes in and with his own unimitatable style, tells y'all that he's gonna have to rain on your parade and if you have a problem with it it's your own fault. I have to agree with his assessment.
We will be able to see lots of shiny in GR, when release arrives, up until then everything else is supposition. Time to build a bridge and get over it!

To those dissing the art department for not delivering, or not delivering in a way they want, I'd like to chime in.
I'm not familiar with the business practices of Paragon Studios, but in general, artists do NOT get to decide what they get to work on when they're on staff. Nor do coders, animators...the production end is usually following management's directives. Someone said earlier that they didn't like Jay not going back to fix NPC's. You really think an artist can say "Enemy X in the game needs a look- time for me to change it!?"
Let's be clear on how art usually works in a studio. Management decides direction: the Art department follows that, making several creative directions. Management gives the okay on what they like, says what they want tweaked, then the Art department creates the Art to fit with the implementation. In the case of this game, the art department has to make things that work within the game engine. If the game engine can't do it, the art department cannot implement it. If the art department wants to do something new/different, they have to talk to management, and management's call is the last word.
Personally, I just took the first image as a NPC image to show off the look of the upcoming expansion pack. Some folks got their hopes up, but guys, c'mon, if they don't say something like "Here are some costumes you can hope to unlock," assuming the picture is of a costume is jumping a step ahead. Hoping it is? Cool. Yeah, right there with you. Saying it will be? Eh, let's not make assumptions.
Explanation was given. I've deleted the guff I posted before. Someone seemed to have overloaded the Rage.exe folder...
Hallowed; I get what you are saying, and I admit I was in the very wrong here. However, being patronising is a surefire way to *not* sort things out. You comments might not seem offensive to you, but they were to me. Make of that what you will. And, since the disabling of comments, I've not bothered with the rep feature on the boards anymore.
Hell, I'll give you some to balance it out
Either way; NPC or PC or w/e...Resistance armour is still shiny.
So...can we poke the tech guys to give Jay the tech to make even more shinies?
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Glad my book came. I think the bigger problem, and the reason tempers are high on both sides of the argument is because of the lack of GR info.
Once the info starts flowing again, I think things will calm down a tad. That, ot the real DOOM will start to fly.

I've been known to rage before also... but luckily not whilst in the forums. I have however had several epic (and embarrassing) tantrums in game >.>

Remember way back in the day when this thread got started and everyone was like wow those are great resistance costume pieces, i cant wait to wear them, splat, splat, splat, and oh super keen, first i changed my desktop to a lolz cat and now my crippling depression doesnt seem so bad anymore, because i have a reason to live again, i get to wear glowing stuff. well, get out a mop and find something sharp. That picture is of a npc, not a new costume set.
Me so sorry about that there wasnt a clearer explanation of what was going on in the screenshot, i really am. But when you get down it and think about this rationally, this is really your fault, you jumped to a conclusion. You know i told you a thousand times not to do that, but i guess i need to teach you another lesson in the silence of the basement, next to the treadmill you dont use anymore. Looks like you and i wont be going over to your mothers for dinner like you planned. Canceled! The writing is on the wall baby, you are going to just have to tell the neighbors how clumsy you are, and just deal with it. Let the guilt of your wrong doings lead you on a path to righteousness. Youre welcome.
See how i turned that around, take a note kids.
