I did a search and came up with nothing, so I'll throw this question out there:

When will Going Rogue's closed beta invites be sent out?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Short Answer: Soon™

Longer answer: We don't know.

I will say that I am slightly irked by the fact that there isn't any more information or details available regarding the expansion. Sure, I don't expect them to spill the milk all at once... but it has been a long time since we got any new info. on any GR stuff.

Words to the wise aren't necessary- it's the stupid ones that need them.

My inside track to the devs (read: my unfounded speculation) hints that we're likely not going to see anything until shortly after the Winter Event ends. Gives everyone a chance to have enjoyed it, gives the devs a chance at a break (maybe), and starts everything off with a fresh, new year.

Okay, I sort of understand where you are coming from... but looking over the past recent history of launched "major" MMO's like Dungeons and Dragons Online, Champions Online, WarHammer Online, Tabula Rasa, and so on, there's been a trend for MMO's to promote features they don't have, or talk about things they won't do, or will change at a later date. NCSoft's been pretty good since the Tabula Rasa and Auto Assault debacles about not over-selling a product.

A lot of information went out at HeroCon, and there's a distinct possibility that was the the extent of the information that NCSoft's marketing felt comfortable with revealing that they could absolutely deliver on time in a retail package.

Given the trend of the gaming industry as of late to promise the moon and deliver a bare bottom, I'm much more comfortable with the discrete information releases thus seen so far on Aion and City of Heroes. Perhaps other games could take notes.

^ There is this as well.
The Devs are very good at, when talking to us (which is great, as well) they do tend to be answering fully (when allowed), and they tend to deliver.

If I recall correctly, the devs said it wouldn't be untill after the new year.

And if memory serves, even in January it would still be in the "only the family" beta, as it wasn't that far yet.

What, you guys aren't in the Beta yet? Gee, that's pretty sad. I got in two months ago, and all I had to do was sign the NDA. There was a provision in there about breaking it, and then being shot by an arrow, but I figure that part couldn't possibly be true, right? I mean, it's not like they know where I liv...

Ha! You guys got my stunt double! I'm not at home now, I'm at wor...

<thunk!> Gah! You guys are good... <thunk! thunk!>

That's what you get for not getting the "Platinum Account" Aett.

In addition to all the above, don't forget it'll be multiple waves. Friends/family, small group, slightly less small group, etc. until it's in open beta and people complain that things don't work, and get told in return "uh, yeah, that's what beta's for, so report the things that don't work so they can get fixed," and chat and forum flame wars start because "the devs don't listen," then get countered with lists of all the times the devs do listen, someone calls someone's cat a pigeon lover and it all goes downhill in a flaming ball of mildly aged cheese.

Okay well I can say that for regular beta invites, if you have had your account active for like 3 months or so i cant remember exactly, that you get into the open beta. So if we already know bout those, the closed beta has already happened, or is happening....probably.

Open beta is open to everyone who has their account active; even to trial accounts.

Closed beta has not started yet.

"Closed" beta is kind of a misnomer. Anyone who's account was active between August 15th and November 15th of this year is elegible. And anyone with over 60 months worth of vet badges is elegible, whether their account was active during that time or not.

There will be 3 waves: Friends and family, 60+ month veterans, and accounts active during the aforementioned timespan. Then it will go into open beta.

Can't wait for the "OMG THE GAME IS DEAD!!!" threads to start up, posted by people who don't know how the beta works for Going Rogue and not realizing that everyone is on the test server.

There may be as many as 5 before open. You forgot HeroCon attendees and preorders. Though it's possible they'll combine some of those.

Don't forget all the people in closed beta who aren't usually in it complaining that the game is far too buggy and the devs are worthless. Just like our full-open beta.

By the way, what email address do they usually send info like invites from? I need to whitelist it.

Oh blah, i have no idea. i do recall that it ended up in my spam folder last closed beta and i didn't even notice it until after it had already gone to open beta. The beta forums showing up in the list would've been a big tip-off, but i have my bookmark set to take me straight to the English forums instead of the main page, so i didn't notice that either. This time i'll be keeping a closer eye out.

Don't bother. If you fail to login to one closed beta, your account is removed from consideration in future closed betas.

"Recent history" and "trend as of late"? More like MMO's (and most single player games too) have been doing that since forever.

I think people are confusing tiers with waves. The Going Rogue info states:

*Going Rogue Closed Beta Access will be granted using a three-tier system.

  • Tier One: City of Heroes Veterans with 60+ months of paid time.
  • Tier Two: Loyalty Program players
  • Tier Three: Players who Pre-Order Going Rogue (Preorder details to be announced at a later date)

Each of those tiers may contain 1 to X waves. Last years HeroCon attendees were invited in at least 3 waves, I'd expect GR's waves for each tier to follow suit.

Edit: And why is this question even in this section?

That actually is a valid point.
