How are you getting 625% on EndRec once you turn on the incarnates?
EDIT: nevermind its the ageless. Great build! -
I tried playing on another server, I like pinnacle too much though and it ended in a boring grind with no one i knew. So I stick to one server
-
hmmm well you may not like my answer but I was going to advise that you chose the earth mastery or energy mastery. The energy mastery would give you great regen and acc and the earth mastery would give you quick sand which would go on top of burn and ice patch lol.
out of your two choices though, I would go fire because it has both a hold, and immobilize, and melt armor. -
I embrace this game, the only thing they can do that would make me happier is get rid of the dang aggro cap, that way tanks can tank. But of course this comes from a tank perspective. I have played other classes though, and I honestly think there is exageration in this thread. The majority of pub runs on + 0 x 8 or + 0 x 1 because they like to speed run. I have been playing on and off since 08' and I have come to terms to the changes they made after ED, and now we have to realize that this game is old, and we have learned the mechanics of the game. We have it built into our learned behavior so the game seems easy, and we know how to play our characters beyond their limits.
Don't get me wrong, CoH has added loads of content, its what keeps me playing, but the vets in this game know everything about everything and the lead guilds set the main way to run the trials and task forces. People go on the forums and ask for builds and the experts build them their characters.
We can still have fun though, by pushing our limits even farther. Sure you can kill an AV, but can you kill Ghost Widow? at lvl 51? 52? 53? 54? lol I know it sounds ridiculous but I think some of us have just hit the point where we have beat the game, we number crunch to the .5%, we make new characters to pass the time, and wait for the next update.
I love what their doing with the Incarnate system, we may be able to destroy all the content except for the trials, but then we know what to focus on to become better and have a stronger challenge. We go on these trials and learn them and wait for the next set of trials and incarnate trees. Imagine what we will be able to do once we are full incarnates and doing content that requires a full team of full incarnates? that will be intense. but then of course we will get that down to routine and need more content. that is the way of mmos. -
I haven't had the time to play hardcore lately so I have only used one type of pet for the Lore and that is Carnival. I came up with that decision because the Dark Ring Mistress provides the control and the Strongman is like a mini scrapper. Plus I have always hated fighting Carnies, so why not use them against the enemies
Really helps out with the holds and expanding my aggro cap.
While I have been using them, I feel like it was a perfect fit, they really do mess things up. -
I took barrier without looking into it too much on my fire fire. I love the recharge rate on it and I love what it does for me. It hard caps my defenses and resistances and makes tanking any boss a breeze. Not to mention, say your over aggro cap and your team is taking a huge hit, throw that off and they get the buff as well. This allows a window to kill everything so you can get back under that aggro cap.
(Just a note, I don't know how you prefer to play, but this has been a huge help for me.) -
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! WHY DID THEY DO IT!!!!!! All those hours of number crunching my fire/fire/energy tank and all the billions spent must now all be reconsidered!!!!!! Do they think my character is made of influence or something?????
So do we only get 1 set? because if this is the only set I may be greatful because it sucks and I'll leave my build alone. -
Thank everyone, I'm a part of pinnbadges and cozmics playground, guess my timing is just bad.
-
someone deserves a good ol' fashion Grits!!!!!

Quote:Oh okay, thanks! Most people form a full trial league before entering the queue. this way the trials keep ticking along (Hence the 3 min ETA) but no one in the queue solo will ever get in.
Don't know about your specific server but mostly people form Trial leagues in Pocket D or the RWZ on other servers.
-yeah I only play on Pinnacle. I tried other servers out when we were fairly dead but didn't really click. -
Hey all, most of you probably don't know me, but hey maybe you do! I have been playing on and off since October 05' when I joined C.O.R.E. and I'm just glad to be back in CoH and have some good times on the drunk server. I started getting into the forums kinda late but none of that matters, time for a good ol fire fire tank destruction!
I do have a question though so this thread isn't a total waste. I left 3 months ago after the Alpha slot, and I know they added these other incarnates and all that. I Queued up for the instances and didn't see any action for awhile even though it said "Estimated time of 3 minutes" so I was wondering has Pinnacle seen a decrease in activity? or is the server going strong again and people just hate these instances? -
I'm looking at this and thinking that the healing flames based heal is kinda overkill for the toxic resistance since it is stackable. I know my healing flames can stack 3x so that is adding a 60% resist bonus to my toxic, My main question though, besides this build being resistance focused, what is the primary weakness aimed towards?
EDIT:
On the positive side, I like that it is so different and how you incorporated AM. -
Well, I'm definitely addicted to this game right now!
-
yeah tough and weave is pretty much mandatory which imo is bs because we normally did not have to rely on it so heavily back in the day.
As for your endurance problem, it is mostly caused from weave but tough has a fair share of hogging up your bar as well. If you can, download mids hero builder and you can actually see the numbers and pre build your toons to fix these problems.
I don't know what mastery you are going with but you may want to consider going energy mastery and getting physical perfection and conserve power to fix all endurance problems if you don't want to use IO sets. also if you can fit a "Miracle + recovery" anywhere in your build that will help a bit, but obviously not as much as physical perfection and conserve power. -
We know the defense may not be all that worth it but I want to know about this taunt enhancement. Do we know if this has any hidden stats or boost to our threat level which is usually at 4.0 or 400%?
-
I have done it solo. I have actually done it 3 times tbh. I'll go runs where i get none then the next mission i'll get 2 in one mob. It has to do with the drop rates on bosses and lts and all that.
EDIT: the hamidon also drops them like crazy. People have been known to walk away with at least 50-70 -
Well I think maybe we should do some testing and you can make up your mind because although the highest my shield fire tanker has gotten is to his 35s my 50 tanker I personally think can do better. Can you make a character on pinnacle today?
-
Quote:I don't think anyone can compare the two powers:Shield can't compete? Hell no. If Shield isn't better, it's very close. I would like to see numbers that compare the two in different circumstances(1, 5, 10 enemies), that would be interesting.
A) Burn is an AoE DoT so we are talking about maximum damage including time, well what do you do during that time? FSC so it's more of a combo, + burn goes through sooooo many nerfs it's not even funny.
B) Shield Charge is not up like burn is, you only really use it when charging into crowds and burn is used throughout a fight, not just once.
C) They have different play styles and do different forms of damage, it also depends on how resistant to fire your enemy is.
EDIT: as for numbers some one can compare their shield charge to my burn:
With build up/ firey embrace I am having 13 ticks, all with 12.12 damage + the build up and fiery embrace my total is 534.05. That is with no purples in my build, only rares and uncommons, no ulta rares.(PVE)
With PVP I am doing:13.35 x 13 + the bonus of both powers I'm sitting at 588.31
EDIT 2: my build up is up every 31 sec and my fiery embrace is up every 101sec. Burn is up every 13sec. That is probably the biggest key is how fast burn is up.(on my purple experimental build I'm looking at 10sec on burn.) -
I agree, nothing is like a fire fire
of course my opinion may not count because my main is a fire fire and has been for 5 years
I don't see going fire mastery though. I only see melt armor and that isn't an aoe but a cool debuff. If you go earth you get quicksand, which is an awesome power I have to say. That's what stands out for mastery powers and the rest just have cones really.
If you are apposed to fire fire, there is shield fire which has a nice power called shield charge. There also is the electric variant which is nice too on damage and AoE, but I think fire/fire/earth is your best bet with AoE focus. + the quicksand burn combo can be amazing I imagine, never tried it since I prefer energy mastery for survivability but that goes into playstyle and preference :P -
My opinion of the shield elec consists of 3 pros I think this build has the most to offer for.
1. Electricity does amazing dps. I will always be a fire fan but the elec is impressive that it can't go un noticed.
2. The status protection/resistances and debuff resistances on a shield tanker can be amazing. When looking at it from a tank perspective, this is one of the most important parts of the build. No one can do anything to you.
3. If you're slotting for defense(which is highly recommended since you have high defense debuff resistance) you truly can become super durable. Also you should take into consideration that 1 resistance = 2 defense so this is why it is very important.
Other than that you can't ask for more. You could go for a regen increase by going with the energy mastery pool and getting physical perfection and getting a good boost, especially since health is inherit now.
It's a fun tank class, the powers you get force you to be a tank and have aggro, you will feel like you can take on anything. Definitely one of the best tank builds in the game(IMO).
EDIT:
Also you can herd with this tank but shield charge is more beneficial. It acts like teleport, you click the power choose where you want to go, and then BAM your toon jumps to that spot knocking everything around him/her down. Then you nuke em with your AoEs. This tank build is fast and tough.
EDIT 2: lol oops, i see you went fire shield brute, thats good too, though, just replace what I said about elec with fire, I prefer fire over elec. -
fire ice with earth mastery, not only will you be wicked awesome but we could call you avatar, the last airbender
-
Well I think you may be looking more for a team oriented and less solo since you plan to only solo to the hollows. Both a tank and scrapper have their pros and cons for doing this job so I'll just give you my advice.
Shield tankers are like the tutorial of tank primaries. The powers pretty much tell you how to play. They have great balance and are one of the more durable primaries.
If you want to be a god and not be a stone go with willpower or invulnerability.
You will definitely need damage output so I suggest you use electric, fire, energy melee, super strength, or for scrappers: anything lol.
You really have an open field here though, everything is pretty much soloable till the hollows. I honestly think though a scrapper will be your best bet, they are the most solo class in the game IMO. They can be made to take a beating and they have high dps. When they go into teams you make a good off tank and a good dps. -
Quote:Ah very nice. Glad to hear it works for youI seldom get kbed, that attack has to connect before it can move you.
There are a very few foes I have to watch, carnie illusionists are one they have a high psi dmg mez that is not vector tagged, no defenses or resists to that so it all hits. Let more than 3 or 4 of them beat on me and I will eventually go down. Of course in those rare cases I just rotp and beat them down.
On a 50 death/debt is not a deal breaker.
RE: regen. I went that route on my first IO build for this tank. It helped but no where near as effectively as soft cap level defenses.
For me the mitigation is Death>Juggling>Defense>Resist>Heal>Regen>RotP
By the time I am leaning on regen the situation is so bad its not really going to make a difference anyhow. The regen was a curious one for me but I can see that the defenses are helping you more. I tend to lean towards regen over defenses as long as I have solid defenses because I know that fire has no defense debuff protection but the beauty of this game is how skill based and unique we can be. Our play styles can be very different. Keep doing what you are doing as long as it is working
P.S. lol I think we all hate those carnies. -
Grits! I have to agree with a lot that has been said, soloing AVs is more of bragging rights and time consuming, but you deserve the GRITS!
-
@ joe
Great build man, the only problem you will run into really is ice and psi at first glance but your kb is only at mag 4 which is a death wish unless your going to be a scrapper. May want to work something out on that. Also some more regen will help, you can probably get past 240 easy.
Of course this is first glance so I have not tried anything, I normally don't go so heavy on the defense for a fire. maybe even slotting kb at 8 is okay because we have SS with it's knockbacks to keep you up long enough to heal. I think it would end up hurting you in the long run though.
