Suggestion: Level 50 character auto-retirement

In a discussion with several other CoH/CoV players that I've been playing with over the years, we're looking for ways to keep the game fresh and keep interest going. We were having a conversation about the possible downfalls to the Mission Architect system that players could exploit to powerlevel and miss the enjoyment and whole point of the game, and then the discussion turned to what happens to players when they get characters to level 50. We propose that in order to avoid, frankly, the "let-down" when you hit 50, that characters that have achieved level 50 get a certain amount of playtime and then move off to "retirement" or become "figureheads" or "paradigms" of some sort and are automatically retired, inspiring players to create new characters again. Of course, there would be special bonuses when heroes or villains do retire to new characters that are created, and be badges for retiring X amount of heroes/villains or a complete suite of archetypes. This incentive to move on and keep the game fresh would greatly enhance the continued playability of the game in the same way that the frequent emphasis to prevent powerleveling keeps the game world vibrant and dynamic. I'd like to see one of the game developers comment on this suggestion. Thanks!

Then you should of posted this in Suggestions, not Player Questions.

And no, just because you don't like people power leveling doesn't mean I should lose access to my fifties.

please no.

I have over 2000 hours playtime on my main at 50.

Forced retirement is simply a bad idea.

Because you don't have enough imagination or flexibility to enjoy your 50s, you want to punish the rest of us?

No.

Hitting 50 is not the end of the game. There are badges to collect, task forces to run, Rikti and Hami raids. You can keep inching closer to perfection through better set enhancements, including purples which can't even be slotted until you reach 50. If hitting 50 meant my character who I worked so hard on would be taken away from me, I would be more than a little perturbed. If they were to implement your suggestion, I would expect a mass exodus from the game, and quite possibly an angry mob with torches and pitchforks would show up at Positron's house.

Not to mention, it would do nothing to stop powerleveling. I imagine many people would rush to level 49 and then turn off xp there.

Sorry for the mispost, I have found the "suggestions" forum and have reposted it there.

I can't imagine a less enticing carrot. Why would I ever want to lose a character I have put so much time and creative effort into? I would turn off EXP at 90% of the way through level 49 and stay there forever to avoid a forced retirement and so, I'm sure, would many others.

I dub this idea "just plain dreadful."

Holy **** no. No ******* no. I have been playing the same character since April of '04. Keep your hands off.

Also, if you feel a "let-down" by finally getting the last of the game content opened up to you...that's on you.

You can retire my Fifties (all 15 of them that I play very regularly) when you pry my keyboard from my cold dead fingers. Last I checked, I'm flying my Immortal Badge title, so good luck and Thanks for Playing Kiddo!

I am 100% against the original suggestion. Retire your own characters manually if you want to. I already make plenty of new characters, and my level 50 Earth/Storm controller hates your newsletter.

Would make the high-end task forces and purples kind of silly too.

I would say more, but just... ugh.

I almost wonder if this is an attempt to see how low a Forum Rep one person can get in the shortest amount of time.

I will chime in that I enjoy my 50's and my Main the most. If I couldn't play him, I would indeed consider closing my accounts. Tres fail.

Suggestion: Leave *MY* characters the hell alone!
This idea well and truly stinks.
