This thread reminds me of something. Can't think what, though.

Well, I'm sure that if those of us still playing on Defiant, Vigilance or Zukunft feel a bit lonely this Christmas they might give us another Union-Only Double XP Weekend to cheer us up.
And that's quite honestly what I think about this.

And as for the other topic at hand. Scenario:
I am giving one million bags of free peanuts out to one million people, for the sheer sake of being nice. Five people, it turns out, are allergic to peanuts. I don't have any alternatives, but that's okay--they don't eat the peanuts. One of them, however, accuses me of secretly trying to murder him. Clearly, the other 999,999 bags of peanuts are a ruse, and my murder plot has failed.

I play almost exclusively on Union so a free server transfer would be pretty useless, yes?
Not at all, I just used the server transfer to change the name of a character I created just to try out the sets and so chose a pretty random name for, to one of my main names that I use for free. I am very happy with this outcome.
I can't help but think, if they did give us EU players the choice to move toons to the NA servers, that many would. Leaving those who don't want to change servers (due to SG/Friends or just plain love of the EU server community (ie: me and many others I know) with servers that ARE pretty dead/empty as some EU players seem to enjoy saying...
Oh, and I wont be using this FREE gift, but the thought and gesture is nice. Thanks!

Simply because the gift is the useful equivalent of a pair of socks to you doesn't mean that they're playing favorites.
You have been given the ability to transfer servers within your shard grouping FOR FREE (when a few weeks back it would have cost you money). Additionally, this gives you a strategy to freely rename toons if their current name isn't what you'd like it to be. Simply because you don't see a use for it doesn't mean there's a plot to discriminate against you. If you choose not to take advantage of the gift, the onus is on YOU.

I didn't read the whole thread, but I agree that free holiday offers should be mistrusted. As an evil marketing plot.

Worked like a charm!
I'm also going to try and take advantage of this deal to bring the Kheldian community together for some "Kheldian action" on an agreed-upon server for a few nights... Should be fun, and (hopefully) a learning experience as well...

I do appreciate the gift itself even though i have limited use of it. Also i didnt say server merge. I said server list merge so we can be one big happy dysfunctional family.

We had to take the character transfer service down in order to make the change to make it free, it's not as simple as setting the price to zero. Also we have to test these things of course to make sure that the changes aren't going to do anything bad. |

I tend to question the motives of anyone who gives me nice presents. One time, a friend gave me a phone. So I was all like "What are you trying to say? That I like to use cell phones?! WHERE DO YOU GET OFF!" I'm glad I set that guy straight!
You sir, OP, are onto something. No Devs would just give their players a nice present during the holiday season.
Scarlet is probably a lot of fun at birthday celebrations or charitable events.

I don't know how this whole server transfer will play out, all I know is yesterday at 1pm eastern there were only 42 people on Triumph. Ya know the little "(this list as been truncated )" on the bottom of the team search window? ... It wasn't there, the first time in my 51 months of playing that I've seen that. And during the start of the Holiday Event no less. So even appreciating the gift of server transfers given us, I'm curious how it will pan out.

I wouldn't get too het up about this. Yes it's just about as useful as a chocolate fireguard for EU players - but we were pretty damn used to being treated as second class customers (at best) before the board merge. And I'd have thought that they would try a server-list merge before this if the intention was to see if any servers became so quiet that they could be closed.
i.e. cynical as I am I see it as merely an attempt at a nice gesture that probably works well for some NA customers but is virtually useless for EU players. I see no hidden agenda nor intended slights.
BTW - is it the case that some of the text/dialog settings on characters is set at creation and moves with character when transfering between servers using different languages?
As odd as it seems I was told some time back that this happened (and was partly to do with the dodgy multi-language implementation used by the game) - giving me the impression that some text would remain in German if I decided to transfer charcaters created on Zukunft to Union.

I was on triumph battling it out with the winter dude with 20+ other players last night.
As always, player observations of server population are meaningless as a measure of actual population. Only the devs know that.
I've never had problems finding people to team with on Triumph and I've been there since the doors opened. It's not Freedom, but neither is it a deserted, dying ghost town.
