So where did your forum handle come from?
My First and favorite Villain is named Garcia Vega. I just ran with the last part of the name.
"Sorry bucko, but CoH and CoV are the same game." -BackAlleyBrawler
"Silly villain, CoX is for Heroes!" -Saicho
Mine is the name of my first CoH character, also my first 50, and my global on the EU servers. Character was meant to be "Shadow" originally, but of course that's a blocked name, so I spent a minute coming up with alternatives that would sound the same (and without resorting to the dreaded "dot at the end"). Shadowe it became (though a lot of people pronounce the "e", which is okay by me).
My general online name is Chemlak, after my favourite ever PnP RP character - if you spot a Chemlak online (except on youtube, where I missed the name, damnit!), it's probably me.
The wisdom of Shadowe: Ghostraptor: The Shadowe is wise ...; FFM: Shadowe is no longer wise. ; Techbot_Alpha: Also, what Shadowe said. It seems he is still somewhat wise ; Bull Throttle: Shadowe was unwise in this instance...; Rock_Powerfist: in this instance Shadowe is wise.; Techbot_Alpha: Shadowe is very wise *nods*; Zortel: *Quotable line about Shadowe being wise goes here.*
novel... that touches on transhumanism, politics and philosophy.

My handle? Uh. Well. Like a zillion years ago when I first got Baldur's Gate as a pseudonerdling, I needed a name for the wizard I rolled up, so I randomly picked Kelenar. Then, later, I got EverQuest and needed a name for my character, and, hey, I already had one laying around. By the time I got to CoH, I'd used it in about six different MMOs and it was just habit. My online friends get confused when I pick anything different. I'm actually forcefully transitioning away from it and using different things when I move to new games/forums, because
1. Every vaguely fantasy-ish name is now used about six times over thanks to WoW.
and 2. My newer screennames are awesomer anyway.
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
I think I may have told this story already in a similar thread...
Also, as promised in that other post (since it is indeed, another day), I will answer how 37 got to be my favorite number. |
Soo..... Clerks had nothing to do with choosing 37?
I'm shocked!
Well, it's a musical term that is used in a piece of music that I particularly enjoy called Variations on a Korean Folk Song composed by John Barnes Chance. We played it in high school, and vivace is actually a tempo cue in there.
Vivace is a Italian tempo marking that generally means to play in a brisk, lively, and spirited manner. I'm generally lively and spirited too, so I thought it was a good fit.
Oh, and it's pronounced vee-VAH-chay.
Have you ever tasted a wild Dumpleberry before?
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
Mine's from a semi-obscure short story by Poe, A Tale of the Ragged Mountains. At least it's as obscure as someone like Poe can get. It's not considered one of his better stories and it doesn't seem to have a plot so much as it just sort of rambles on for a while.
The story involves Bedloe experiencing the death of Oldeb and then dying in a similar manner. Since I use Bedloe as my global I reversed it when I made a forum account.
"Mastermind Pets operate...differently, and aren't as easily fixed. Especially the Bruiser. I want to take him out behind the woodshed and pull an "old yeller" on him at times." - Castle
Yeah, I guess I'm gonna be boring as well. Primal is my main Hero, third character I ever created. I liked the sound of it as a name, and it fit the character. I've run with various names here over the years, but chose that one as my Global, and now that it's quite difficult to change names here I've just left it.
I use other names on other forums, and there is a theme to them all, but to reveal that would reveal my account name here, obviously not a good idea.
I just made up the name for a Zelda fanfic I was writing about a decade ago (slight exaggeration)... when it came to playing my first MMO I needed a name... and I remembered this name. It's stuck ever since.
My best friend even has me listed on his mobile phone as "Zikar".
"Nishastra" is the name of my first character to get to 50. I forget what name I used before she took off. I use this name everywhere now, even though I no longer play Nishastra.
Mine is after my first MMO character in Sierra's (now Norseman Games') The Realm. I typed in characters as they came to me, and by semi random chance I got "Gehn". That name was taken, so I added the "en".
Here, he was my second character...and is stuck at 43 (I think).
Any other Realmers out there? I hung out with Benlo, Lady Tatianna, and Princess Alyssa at the Dog's Breath Inn back around '99.
Well, I've had three online names over the years. The first was rather childish, and I eventually swapped it out for a reference to a book series. I used that name for a good long time, but I decided I wanted a different name to use in counter strike - one people would be less likely to recognise and pester me about in the middle of a round. I decided that *this* name would reference my overriding passion in life - physics and astronomy, and so I decided to pick the name of an obscure particle. Thus, MuonNeutrino was born.
Neutrinos are weird, ghostly, almost massless particles that barely interact with normal matter. Muon neutrinos are the variety associated with the muon, a heavier cousin of the electron. I feel that it reflects me rather well. I am a huge geek - check. I am mostly a lurker, and extremely shy in RL - check. I am strange and full of obscure references - check.
Eventually, I decided that I didn't like my old name - said book series had long ended and my interest had waned, and I found that I *hated* what they had done to the characters in the subsequent series. Thus, whenever I signed up for something new (such as CoH), I used MuonNeutrino - although it is just my handle, I have no characters named that. Eventually I shortened it to just Muon in counterstrike, but everywhere else on the internet (bar one message board where I still have my old name) I am known as MuonNeutrino.

This is what it means to be a tank!
Only recently have I used my forum Handle as a character name in game. It actually has it's origin as the name of a halfling character in old table top RPG's.
It's true origin is in an old pop song Yes, I am just about that old. |
As for my forum handle. Its a twist on the name I used for a character in the MMO The Realm over a decade ago. This Toon was his name. A proud member of the Tiny Terminators. I also had Toon's Twin.
Yes, all of the Tiny Terminators had TT names.
There I was between a rock and a hard place. Then I thought, "What am I doing on this side of the rock?"
Mine's simply the first character I made in COH. *shrug* As for where the name itself came from, after making the character I realized I had no idea what I wanted to name him. Looking around for inspiration, I glanced at my DVD collection. Saw "Memphis Belle." While obviously not fitting for this large male character, "Memphis Bill" sounded interesting, so I used it.
Nope. Never lived in or been to Memphis.
Mine is the name of a really good song by Blood, Sweat & Tears. According to my dad, this song sounds like it's really hard for the brass section to play (all those fast, short notes). His dad was a music professor at Oregon State University, and he taught my dad a lot about music and instruments, so I guess my dad would know about that.
I also like this name. It's the name of my first 50 (dark/dark/soul Corruptor). I always feel mischievous when I see someone call me by this name, and it's (apparently) notoriously difficult to for teammates to shorten. It also bothers my brother a bit (especially when I start humming the song), so that's a plus.
I used to play an online space trading and combat game called BMT (I can't remember what it stands for now -- something something Traders, I think), and I settled on the name "Trip Hazzard" for my game handle.
I started using it elsewhere, and eventually added the second "p" to make it more individual.
It has a nice sound to it, and it fits because there's no telling where you'll trip over one of my posts.
I've tried to develop an in-game character, but nothing's really clicked so far.
Agonus is the name of my main in CoV.
I was trying for a name like Sinestro or Atrocitus, and Agonus was a play on agony. I also figured the name to be gibberish for the longest time, any legitimate meanings the word has are pure coincidence.
Tales of Judgment. Also here, instead of that other place.
good luck D.B.B.
<-- my main character's name.
Though it originally started as a joke when I was in highschool about what a lame name it'd be for a superhero.

Obsidius is a P&P character, originally. My friends and I liked to play V:TM when we were in the military, when we weren't on an exercise or at the club. My character was a Gangrel by the name of Johnny Blake (I'm finally rolling him in GR). But when we started a V:TDA campaign when we were in Okinawa, I needed a new character. Instead of doing a traditional vampire, I decided to roll a giant black gargoyle instead, and Obsidius was created.
Years later, after I left the military, when I started playing CoH I needed a character concept and, as they say, the rest is history.
Pretty simple question, where did you come up with the handle you use on the forums?

Hey! What happened to all the nachos, man?
I tried using my real name but that doesn't have enough characters in it for the boards, so I used the name of my main who was my 2nd toon ever created.
Thelonious Monk
