Oro Flashback + XP + Merits = Pure Win

Hey Market Mavens:

Just wanted to chime in regarding my favorite thing about Issue 16, the ability to Flashback and run story arcs at full xps and with Merit rewards.

I had a Claws/SR scrapper sitting at 32 with about 100 merits saved up when I16 hit and I started running Arcs. He is currently at level 42 with 5 LOTG+recharges (all @ lvl 25) 4 of them bought with Merits and another bought with influence made over the last 10 levels. He has run every arc in the level ranges 20-24, 25-29, 30-34 with a Posi and a Numi thrown in.

So I guess I would say to those people complaining about lack of goodies, get to level 25, get an Oro portal and start running story arcs. Use the merits for personal use or sell your recipes for influence.

The only thing that would be nice is if Villians had similar Story Arcs to run with regards to Merit rewards, then I would do it over there with a Brute.

In general terms the median time to earn X merits is the same redside and blueside.
Redside has more shorter arcs, that in theory add up to close to the same return for the time.

I have earnt quite a lot of merits on my brute this way.

In practice however, a speeder can generally shave of a larger slice of time on the longer arcs, which is an advantage to the bluesiders.

Nice!

You seem to be earning Merits a lot faster through Ouro than I can in outside of it; soloing a Corr from 1-43 doing storyarcs almost exclusively, I only managed to get around 250 merits.

The thing is with Ouro even badge missions give merits and you dont have to deal with all those bullcrap missions they give you that have absolutely nothing to do with the arc. You pretty much can pick and choose and it goes so much faster this way. Plus if you have sg base with the candle in it that can speed up the travel time significantly.

FFL FF and FFR all have Oro-crytals
(as does GH and Wildcards for sure amonsgt the coalition, I'd have to check the others and this is something that anyone in the base can use -just like the autodoc)

I think the basis for that comment is best given by an example:

Take the Negotiator badge mission for example. (Defeat all clockwork and Skulls)

The flashback version has the contact in Galaxy City, the mission is always in KR.

From Oro your 'best' options are Atlas, Galaxy (via the contact) or Talos
AP - yellow line to KR
GC has a decent walk accross the zone (its pre-travel power) then yellow line to KR
Talos -Pocket D - KR

From the base crystal you start the flashback, walk to the teleporters and its straight to KR.

Its also a great shortcut BACK to the contact from any city zone, by going into the base, use the crystal to TP to contact.

I've mostly ignored merits since their introduction, not having any time for TF grinding.

But if the recent bump for story arcs makes it worthwhile to Oro farm them, I guess I'll check it out! =P

Just out of curiosity, how do teams work with regards to Oro merits? I've never managed to talk anyone into joining me so I have no idea. Can two people do an arc together and both get merits the same as you can if you do it together when you both have the contact?

Everyone on the team gets merits.

In cases like Buck Salinger, everyone unlocks Mary as a TF contact as well.

Yes, it's just like a task force.

Everyone has to be together when you start Ouro mission (you can also start it in the base if you have the crystal there), and everyone gets the merits at the end of the TF.

When i13 hit the servers, many people ran "The Nictus Insurrection" arc non-stop, even after "logout bug" fix. Arc rewarded 29 merits, could be done under 30 minutes, and wasn't affected by DR

Reminder...you're not just "farming" merits, you now get FULL XP...win all the way around..
No running through non-arc contact to open up the arc, no talking to the Security Chiefs, no Bloody Bay Liason, no "Defeat 50 Malta" x3 to open up the arc...

Only downside is your "stuck" in TF mode and can't join PUG fun..

Mr. Tealeaf and I always try to duo a flashback mission from our base by level 15. We did one with his new level 9 scrapper this weekend. It's nice to be able to wow others on lowbie teams by dropping a portal at level 11 or whatever. Of course young characters can't actually use it or anything, but it still impresses.

Anything with XP + Merits = Pure Win!

I started a duo with an RL friend a few weeks ago and we've been going about it VERY, VERY casually. I'm only lvl 23 now, but the good thing is I already have 180something merits. At this pace I guess I can actually overtake the record I did on my SD/DM Tank who had a bit over 700 merits when dinging 50 (he should've had 80 more, but those were lost due to crashes at the ends of various TFs).

Which ones on Blueside do you folks use often? Do you have a pattern? And, what character do you run your Oro missions with?

What I have done with my latest scrapper (blue side) is get to 25, and always run the Ouro arcs in the previous tier. So, at 25 run the 20+ arcs, 30 the 25+, etc. Skip all the fillers from the actual contacts and get straight to the arcs! Thanks to the new rules about +5 levels worth of powers, it's like I never flashbacked.

I've been running my Claws/SR scrapper with Super Speed through the arcs. SS combined with a level 22 Stealth IO in Sprint lets me "ghost" to the mission objectives quickly.

I've run all of the arcs from 20-34 and all are fun, but the Croatoa arcs are especially nice because you never have to leave the zone, unlike most of the other arcs which require running back and forth to the contact.

I love the Freakalympics (boo to lethal resist, imagine a DM scrapper would roll) and its gigantic merit reward, the first mission is kind of a clear all but otherwise goes pretty quick, maybe 1.5 hours if I'm serious.

Starting to do the Villian side arcs with a Ninja/TA MM...17 merits in 1.5 hours doing some 20-24 arcs, I think it feels slower, we'll see.

**XP advice, run the difficulty slider at 1/+1 level/no boss or AV for xp bonus upon mission completion when "ghosting" so many missions.**

Red side is pretty much ALL like Croatoa, mission doors in the same map 9 times out of 10. Very nice!

I'm going to go try your tip on the mission complete bonus. I've been unable to get it to change the bonus at all with a variety of settings from -1/0 all the way up to +3/8.

I find the wentworths TPer handy to get from Oro to KR's directly as I lack a base with the flame on most my heroes.


I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

By the by this did not work. 0/0 and +1/x2 give the same end of mission bonus for Newspapers, TF/SF, Flashbacks and Bank Robberies, all tested personally today Red Side.

Spyhunt: Does it beat 18 merits in ~30 minutes?

When I was completeing the flashback missions, there were two lines of xp noted, one when the mission completed and a second one right below it. If you are running 1/+0 its the same amount twice.

Running at 1/+1 has an increased "2nd" completion bonus. 1/+2 the bonus is higher but not worth the increased difficulty.

I also noticed that increasing the amount of mobs by setting to "3 heroes" worth didn't change the mission completion xp, the "1st" xp listed.

Question? Which villian arc awards 18 merits?

This is really good advise, I have not really done much with the Orbo other than running the Nic with a good friend. I am going to start these tonight as I am very bored with the "Event".

I am going to follow your advise and run at the 1/+1 level.

Villian Merit Update:

Running a level 31 Ninja/TA MM w/ Stealth and SS through some Oro Arcs (not your optimal toon, kind of poor actually), Results as follows:

Sky Hook 28min 6 merits
Coral Bonanza 40min 5 merits
Breaking Cage 24min 6 merits
Spy Hunt 48min 16 merits
Breakout @ Zig 42min 11 merits
Midas Touched 32min 11 merits

Total 214min 55merits...not so hot but I got a level + 4 bubbles, ended up level 32
