The graphics are a small-ish part of GR - the rest is like 4 or 5 Issues all rolled together

Basically, without the graphical upgrade the information released sounds like a very robust issue, which imo given the amount they have short changed us over the last year or so would constitute it being a free issue.

Everything looks great so far, but if you are unable to use the graphical upgrades it doesn't look expansion worthy to me. So I'm personally hoping that "more information to come" is actually true this time.

Since pistols are a powerset designed for blasters and players can already create blasters, then one would assume that they are free to all players. Would be a mistake to lock them out to people who have paid for GR imo.

The way i have understood everything so far is that only the content IN praetoria is GR locked. All the QOL stuff is "free" for non GR players i'ld assume.

Also, about the graphics, they've actually said that if it's possible, they might be able to add them before GR comes out - so they're not totally locked in as a GR feature.

What exactly are your expectations if side switching, two new ATs, a new gamespace with multiple zones populated by all new and re-engineered enemies & a renovation of the low level game don't impress you?

Personally I could do without the graphic update, although I realize it's a nice selling point for the legions of magpie gamers who are mesmerized by pointless shiny. But as far as that nebulously defined thing "content" goes, this issue is already bursting at the seams with it.

Graphics are usually much lower priority than gameplay for me, yet I was impressed by that video. I will certainly bear in mind the recommended specs of GR when I buy my next PC, once they're announced (though I need to know SW:TOR's recommended specs as well ).

I just hope some of the older lower-res costume pieces from original CoH will be getting an update soon, as they already contrast poorly with newer costume pieces and zones, but they would contrast horribly alongside "ultra mode".

The other thing you commented on is the market issue. I was hoping they would just merge them and get it over with at this point but if they are keeping them seperate thats just pointless. My guess is that even the vigilanties wont be able to trade with villains or the rogues to trade with heroes. That to me is complete garbage.
Yeah both of these are my only (slight) disappointments to come out of that video. For purely gameplay reasons I'd like to see a market merger and that all archetypes plus all zones be available to all players from the beginning (extra options = good, playerbase not being split = good).

Admittedly I can also see very good story reasons why the Devs would want to keep them separate - and probably programming/code-base issues too - and also economic reasons. Though I hope the Devs wouldn't be swayed by that as the in-game economy is still entirely optional and not central to gameplay (and I say that as a marketeer who uses IOs exclusively) and could easily adapt to a merger.

I'm guessing the time taken to do the missions to switch sides (and any other penalties that switching sides may impose) would prove prohibitive.

Heck, one mission would make it not worth doing for a Luck Charm for me personally (it's not like 25-75k inf takes long to earn at any level), and I'm pretty sure switching sides will take longer than one mission. Admittedly I often can't be bothered to zone through a base portal to use one of my stored Luck Charms rather than just paying for one (as long as they're not selling for over 100k reliably), so your mileage may vary (and it's true I do zone very slowly nowadays).

It will be interesting to see if the side-switching process will make it less attractive to use it purely to move a couple of purple sets from blueside to redside, though. Mainly because of lack of frequent availability redside, not so much to save inf.

Yeah this is a big issue for me as well; the Devs have to find a way to make inspiration trades/gifts between factions work.

Want to make a Brute blueside?
Make them a Praetorian and choose the good side.

Thats the whole point of starting neutral. Praetoria has its own intro and tutorial, so you CAN make a Blue Brute fairly early on and suchnot.

If it's 20 bucks, sure I might actually buy it (since I bought a new PC and my video card could support the new graphics)

But anything more, neh, I'll wait til it does lower, cause I'd expect more powersets then just 2 (what happened to ball & chain? or growth? why not add those?)
Several new zones, major graphics upgrade, new systems for side-switching, lots and lots of new lore, story arcs, and such, and you're complaining that there aren't enough new powersets........? Especially when one of the new powersets introduces a system to customize the damage type within the powerset, something which hasn't been seen before now and could possibly carry over to existing powersets in the future depending on how well it works.

Well, AR is an obvious one for it - like a bullet is still a bullet, regardles of the gun size

And I'd also like to see them give some DB style combos to MA

Tha basic idea if the same - AR could very easily use the DP ammo

Agreed. We're looking at a target release of April-June of next year. That's a long way off, folks. But in addition to the long amount of time left, one thing mull over is the increased resources they have now. The Paragon Studios team is now over 60 people and they still have 8 open reqs! I have faith that they are all go-getters and that a team that large is going to crank out a ton of stuff.

Plus think about the fact that devs are not interchangable. The type R programmers who did the reflectivity/water/shadow effects aren't doing costumes, enemy groups, buildings, mission instances, new arcs, etc. Think about how much Jay, Babs, and Posi (and their new-hire minions) can crank out in a year, and then reflect on how little of their work we saw in the GR preview.

For example, two HUGE items we know will be in GR from the San Diego Comicon dev discussion panel are a new end game for level 50s and a way to make our level 50s more powerful. This is a big project being created by a big team. It's incredibly premature to be disappointed by GR at this stage. I'm sure they're going to have a couple of big reveals prior to open beta, and even when open beta begins there are going to be some "holy cow!" moments when players see stuff that hadn't even been previously hinted at.

Altough I do have to confess to my own pet obsession: I think a desperately needed QoL improvement is a revamp of the Search window and the addition of a Team Looking For More mechanism. If they roll out a ton of new shinies but omit those, I'll be the one posting an "I'm disappointed" thread!

However, even with that, you are right that how hard it is to flip sides will determine how quickly marketeers can take advantage of each separate market.

Plus it suggests that the Praetorians have no market of their own. Really? Or, instead of a market merge are we going to see further market fragmentation and the creation of a third market: Merry King Cole's Discount Warehouse O'Self-Determination?

Unless GoRo is really only going to be lvl 1 - 20 when it comes to new content, making such a market unnecessary. Or perhaps Paragon Studios will continue their trend of introducing yet another resource type (perhaps Cole Hard Cash) that you can trade for enhancements et al when in Praetoria.

As I said: lots of nice new shiny systems, but the devil is in the detail of implementation.
Positron said that Praetoria will have markets. The resistance will share with hero side and praetorian police will share with villain side through some kind of "dimensional magic". They are still working out the logistics of this, so there are no answers to the questions this raises.

Well, I dunno, I mean, the law of averages suggests that in a group that large there'll have to be at least one boat anchor.

Am I the only one who keeps scratching his head at all the doom and thinking "They announced this for release in Q2 2010. They probably have something else to make in the next 6-8 months." I mean, seriously, do you people expect the developers to spend months on end twiddling their thumbs, just delaying the release of what they already showed to be ready for no good reason?

Seriously, where is this notion that if the movie didn't show it, it won't be in the expansion coming from? We don't know almost anything, how do we know what WON'T be in it with such certainty?
