Just to reiterate, you guys can PM me or post in the forums, and I'll inevitably get to it.
To clarify Arbiter Kim's role:

  • If you find a bug when playing the game, please use the /bug command in-game. Whenever you use /bug, certain player information, server and other data is sent along with your /bug submission. The bug is then reviewed, vetted and entered into our bug tracking system.
    • Note: Whenever you use /bug in the game, those tickets are counted and if all player bug reports are only posted on the web or sent via PMs, those cannot be tracked.
  • If you want to post your findings to the forums to clarify the bug further and/or discuss the in-game impact, please post to the Technical or Training Room forum sections.
    • Posting bugs to those Forum sections alerts other players to the issue, and players (and/or devs) can confirm whether it's a bug or working as designed.
    • If you feel that you need to alert Arbiter Kim to a specific issue, please PM him with the link.
So to re-iterate, the introduction of Arbiter Kim does not mean that players should stop using /bug, or only send him Private Messages (PMs) with bugs.

If we wanted to highlight something specific that was already bugged, I assume we can use the ticket number.

For example:
090728-000759 is a closed ticket reporting a text error I submitted. Obviously not a game breaking issue and undoubtedly in the system as a low priority thing.

Is that the right reference to use ? OR do support tickets from /bug get recoded when entered into the bug tracking software.

Red Skeleton was covering for me while I was out on paternity leave. He did a great job, but has now resumed his previous role on City of Heroes (CoH QA Lead at NCsoft).

Arbiter Kim is a recent new hire in the Paragon Studios QA organization, and we've been training him up to take a more active role with the City of Heroes community. If he sees a forum bug/issue, and the details are not clear, he'll contact players that posted in that thread for further clarification/reproduction steps.

It's not entirely necessary.

Bug information received from the /bug command goes into a bug queue.
  • Bugs filed by multiple users are combined into a single "bug" and assigned an internal tracking number. If more /bug reports come in for that issue, it gets higher visibility, and is then triaged as needed.
Information from the /petition command goes into another queue that is reviewed by our Game Masters (GMs/Customer Support).

Support Issues filed through the website are routed to appropriate departments (i.e. Billing Support, Tech Support, Customer Support, etc.). If those issues are game-related, and not service related, those issues are forwarded on to the Paragon Studios dev team.

One thing I'm not clear about.

If we need GM assistance to fix the consequences of a bug, we clearly petition to summon a GM. Should we bug it as well or should the GM do that for us ?

Q: How do you wreck an Abrams?

A: You crash into another one.

All /petition issues are logged, and escalated as necessary. If the /petition turns out to be a bug, it's forwarded on to the QA team for verification and processing.

You do realize they have just thrown you to the wolves right? I got a ton of stuff for you then. But here is my number 1 issue. Fix the waypoint in the Seer Marino arc on villainside. Its been bugged since day one. The waypoint on one of the missions never points correctly to the mission. If you can get this one simple task fixed I will post my other bugs.

If you're going to be rooting out traitors, I suggest you drop the "one of" part - it might make poeple question your undying loyalty

But welcome to the game and forum anyway

Is there a 'The Ocho' in-game?

*ahem* His prior incarnation (Mod8) appears in the MA Arc "The Nanny Filter" by @soul train.

Also, I nominate the "Loneliest QuarterMaster"* out on Pyramid Isle in the middle of Primeva (Nerva) as the canon "Arbiter Kim".

Also, "Kim" could be a surname, folks.

Depends. As a first name, Kim is usually short for Kimberly. However, as a last name, which I'm assuming it is, it's moderately common in Korea and thus gender neutral.

Kim can be a male first name and has been for a long time, Kim Philby a brit who spied for the Russians 50 years ago was male for example. It's just fashion, I think Hilary is more commonly a girls' name now, but used to be more common as a boys name.

Yea, I think it's something like one in five people in South Korea have the last name Kim. It's the most common last name over there I believe.

Aside from most arbiters being named Arbiter (insert surname here)? Such as Arbiter Howe, Arbiter Orr, Arbiter Sands, Arbiter Lupin, Arbiter Apolis (probably named after Mike Apolis, a former NCSoft environmental artist that posted under the name Mapolis).

Have you never heard of Kim Jong Il? There are even websites devoted to Guys Named Kim. Possibly some light reading on the name Kim would be of help? You will find several men named Kim.

Not to mention the Rudyard Kipling novel Kim. Kim is generally considered to be Kipling's best serious long novel.

To add another example of names shared by both genders, my paternal grandfather, my dad, my oldest sister and her youngest daughter all share the same first name of Leslie. My niece is the only one that is referred to as Leslie, the other three all were referred to by their middle names. One of my dad's cousins named her youngest son Leslie, which is what he was always called.

Variations of Bobby/Bobbie, Johnny/Johnnie/Jonnie/Jonny, and many others as well have been around for a long time.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I never forget Leslie Nielsen, but as far as I know I am not related to him. I am related to the 5 people I mentioned in my post. Were I to start listing all the Leslie's I know, or know of, it would make a rather long post.

There isn't enough room in the text field to file a proper report. Increase the amount of text permitted for bug reports and I might consider using it. Until then, Castle is my /bug.

Well, that's no reason for Red Skeleton to stop posting.

In the first two years of CoH's history, we had QA and the Video-Card-Guru dev interact regularly in the tech/training forums.

QA would answer questions about what was a bug or not and even elicit help from players tracking down bugs and trying things out.

And the video-card-guru dev would answer questions about what should and wouldn't work with the various graphics settings and the ATI/Nvidia cards and drivers.

Really miss that.

Just sayin'...
