Hey, I noticed that there is a blue wall surrounding every city in Paragon city ,what is the Lore behind that?and why does the Rogue isles dont have them?

I think they're supposed to be War Walls put up after the Rikti Wars or something to that effect. I would consult www.paragonwiki.com

Those are the War Walls. They were erected during/after (Paragon Wiki would say for sure) the first Rikti invasion in order to protect parts of Paragon City.

Those are the War Walls. The very original War Walls were built by the Rikti as a means of limiting the movement of Heroes attempting to fight them off, solidifying their control of a region. The current ones are there to make it harder for the Rikti to invade a zone, as well as contain other threats.

The RI doesn't have them due to likely being much less of a major target during the original Rikti Invasion- or maybe because Lord Recluse has made dealings with the Rikti.

One of Jack Emmert's philosophies when designing the game was that every typical MMO mechanic in CoH needed a lore-based explanation to give it an actual reason for being there. That's why we have things like the War Walls (zone limits, until it was decided that blue glowing boundaries would suffice instead) and Security Level (gives reason to restrict access to some zones, up until now I think).

61866 - A Series of Unfortunate Kidnappings - More than a coincidence?
2260 - The Burning of Hearts - A green-eyed monster holds the match.
379248 - The Spider Without Fangs - NEW - Some lessons learned (more or less.)

Because Recluse isn't smart/dumb enough to build giant walls around his islands.

But he makes up for it by giving Grandville a giant wall covered in GUNS.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

... because they're islands surrounded by a lot of water, as opposed to a large city?

Because the Rogue Isles aren't as big a target as major cities? (Note, Lore-wise, Paris, London, etc. were also attacked... while I highly doubt, say, Powers, Oregon would be.)

Because Recluse made deals? (See also Ambassador Kur'Rekt.)

There may not be walls in the Rogue Isles, but there sure are some blue curtains around the edge of the zones...

Maybe the Rogue Isles have better force field tech. Or the devs simply decided not to bother, since players are used to abritary force fields anyway.

Would be kinda cool to be able to swim anywhere you want to go in the Rogue Isles.

Wasn't there originally going to be a mechanic involving swimming from island to island? I remember that in an early discussion of the Rogue Isles, one dev (Jack Emmert?) said that one way to get from place to place was "plain old swimming." More recently, another dev (Back Alley Brawler, I think) explained that there were originally going to be sharks surrounding the Isles that would attack swimmers. This is why he's appeared on Test a couple of times as a shark.

Peregrine Island doesn't have War Walls and if you hit the zone perimeter, you'll zone into Talos (back to the Ferry, though).

Teams are the number one killer of soloists.

The mechanic exists. If you swin south long enough, you'll zone from Peregrin into Talos.

Really? I thought they were built after the first invasion using salvaged Rikti technology.

You will also notice the walls come down during an invasion, although you still can't hop over into the adjacent neighborhood.

Up until it was determined that because sharks couldn't leave the water that players would undoubtedly herd them up, lead them back to the beach, and then slaughter them for risk-free XP.

The idea of a ranged attack was kicked around, but after the friggin' lasers was veto'd that whole project lost a lot of steam.

Couldn't they use that ghostly shark attack that Mako has?

Lol I thinks I just found my new signature quote.

Dr. Evil: "You know, I have one simple request. And that is to have sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads!"

This made my day. But seriously why not just replace the sharks with Coralax which can leave the water and have ranged attacks?

Dear BackAlleyBrawler :

We need a new GM.

A giant shark with friggin' lasers.

Please work on some concepts and submit them to Positron.

Thanks!

If those models still exist and so do the animations you guys should just toss those sharks in as no-xp critters! Or better, make them a bit of a joke by giving 1xp point at level 50!!!
