Death of a Hero - Player Death

Ad Astra

I am sad to announce that City of Heroes/Villains has lost one of its players over the weekend. The player known under the global handles of Swift Stuff and Furious Jesus died from complications due to pneumonia at 3:30AM, eastern standard time. Alan was a very active and longtime member of this community, having been with the game since launch.

If any Devs or other players personally knew him and need more details, please PM me. If I recall correctly, Alan posted regularly to the boards and participated in several closed Beta tests.

The Empty Chair

Eulogy for a Gamer

There is an empty chair,
at the table this day.
A hallowed place where,
a friend once played.
The roll of his dice,
my ears long to hear.
Or perhaps it would suffice,
if he should suddenly appear.
With character sheet in hand,
and a bag of Cheeze-doodles to share.
All his friends would stand,
as he sat in the empty chair.
I hear his voice a-callin’,
and it ties my heart in a knot.
For he cries, “Though a comrade has fallen,
You must play for those who cannot.”
We conquered worlds on the run,
he and I in the name of fun.
And as others may come and go,
I make both both friend and foe.
But what I long for most,
is our past now long a ghost.

My condolences to Alan's family and friends in your time of mourning.

As someone who has lost not only a soul-mate on December 26th, but both my grandparents since then, I send nothing but my deepest sympathies. This community is like a family to me, and I feel it's pain as if it were in my own home.

MY FAREWELL GIFT

It is never truly gone, as long as there is someone left to remember.

Loss always sucks, but it seems to suck more when we lose one of our community. My condolences to his friends and family.

While I didn't know him, and probably never met him, my condolences to his family.

Hopefully he passes "The Big Guy" some good ideas for a new "costume designer" setup.

Thank you for all of your comments and support. Things are really rough for the family, and me as well. Alan and I had been friends since elementary school. Being gamers, we continued to hang out until I recently moved away. Even then, we were able to stay in contact through COH. Sadly, he and I never seemed to be on at the same times during the summer and I never got around to calling him. I will regret that for a long time.

For those who are curious, Alan played mainly on Freedom, with several characters at 50. I do not know the names of them all since I chatted with him via his global name. He was the leader of the VG Unusual Suspects, played heroes in at least 2 different SG's and was in an all Ice Power SG or VG on another server.

I played for my first 2 years on Freedom, got my first 50 there and I teamed a lot, never made any regular friends there so I teamed with whomever, whenever so I'd like to think that I teamed with him, and that he was a real cool guy.

Condolences, sorry for our loss...
