Never the twain shall meet?

The forum migration has been a neat thing to witness both from a technical perspective as well as a cultural perspective.

For example, Avatea's name is on posts made in English, Deutsch, and Francais. Does she really speak all three languages? Are there some other multi-lingual NCSoft staffers helping her out? Is there some translation software carrying the burden? (I can just make out what's going on in German and French, but certainly not enough to tell if the posts make sense.)

I've also learned quite a bit reading posts made by English-speaking Euros.

So the question now is will the same thing that has happened to the forums ever happen to the game servers? Will EU Heroes and Villains ever be able to play (once again) on NA servers? Will NA Heroes ever be able to play on EU servers?

I know that there are quite a few players on Victory who have NA CoH accounts despite living in Europe (and some from Asia and Australia as well). My experiences with them are usually good, and I'd like to think that they have a good time as well.

So, for you EU players, would you brave the cross-Atlantic lag to play on a NA server? Would you want NA players on EU servers?

I asked about this at the comic con, and sadly no - since the non-english servers MUST carry a different version of the client, they can't join em up to ours. It's a darn shame. I would definitely not be adverse to seeing some of those folks out on the NA servers, it'd give them a huge boost to the number of toons they could create too.

I'd love to be able to return to Victory, where I started playing.

There may be a server list merge at some point in the future, even if they're not planning for it yet.

But right now, I'm still adding characters to our other EU server. If you offered me another 11 servers, I'd probably explode and that's too messy to think about.

I thought this was gonna be about meeting Mark Twain.

How many people would be happy with their global having EU or NA on their global?

How many people would be happy in being forced to rename their characters or having some form of EU/NA added onto it?

Until they solve those problems out with the minimum amount of casualties, i dont see one coming anytime soon.

Me personally? I much prefer the EU community feel we have at the moment on our servers and making a difference. Dont really fancy having to play for months on end just to get my name out there and be recognised again on the US servers [yes i have that much of an ego!]

We get worse lag playing on the EU servers compared to playing on the NA servers as several players who have tried both can verify.

I have no idea why ncsoft did not just tack on a few servers on the NA data centre from the start of EU release it would have saved a lot of hassle and a lot of bad blood as we pay for access to only 4 servers , seems like they just want us to buy extra slots ..........

Hack or no hack, I'd be happy if they just all accounts, EU and US, access to both games, or at the very least allowed all US accounts to clone an EU account and all EU accounts to clone a US account, like we have CoH retail and CoV retail. Even if we need two separate logins for EU vs. US. I never believed making an EU-specific version of the game was a smart move.

The biggest flaw of CoH developing.. making a server language based. There are a trashload of games out there that have multi-language clients, they have everything client side.

The mistakes in the past, we pay up now. Defiant is empty, as normal 'pug' people just wont find anyone online to play with. New players will see a near empty atlas or mercy and that is NOT advertising the game. All the excuses 'join a SG' and 'join xx channel', new players wont do this. New players start the trial, log in.. probably 1 hour later log out because they havent met a single soul yet.

On the US, you have choice. You can choose to go to a filled up server with trashload of AE farming, you can choose to go a very quit server equaly to EU perhaps. Thats the key.. you have choice. We dont, never.

They already failed pathetic to even make some advertising of this game, something that is kinda needed in the euro zones to get your game known. Aion and CO will snatch probably some people away, and non-CoH players wont even know.. let alone care for issue 16 or Going Rogue.

Note that i not gonna mention the pathetic exchange rate of USD, EUR and GPB, should i remember people again that its only 1 FREAKING ISLAND that has GPB, basicly the rest of EUROPE is using EURO. Why on earth people gonna spend 13 euro to play on a ghost-town server, while for only 10 euro (13 USD) you can play on a big server?

The irony kicks in that on avarage, europe players even have MORE lag on their own servers then being on the US servers.

If you would ask me, what would be your biggest mistake ever made in CoH history? Easy: moving from US servers to EU servers, i should have known better. Sure, go back US servers, sure start all over. But will i get my boosterpacks? My CE? My GvE? My double 54 month vet? My characters? No, i wont. So i have no choice, while US people do.

I don't want to loose the names on a number of my characters nor do I wish to loose 3+ years of prestige and work poored into my SG. So unless they find a way to let me keep my names and port over SG's (wich I also don't wish to rename) including bases I don't want to move over to the US.

The player numbers, while not high, aren't as low as some people make them out to be, not on Union at least. And getting a better connection to the US servers as opposed to the Eu ones in Germany isn't true for me either. (Though the difference isn't really that noticable.)

Now a server list merger, THAT is something I would like to see.
