Hrm. This causes me a dilemma. I reeeally don't want to exemp down and lose all of my powers, and even more so I don't want to get invited to a team and then be like "I don't want to team with you because I don't want to get exemp'd. lolbye".
On the other hand, this update kinda removes the need to do any sort of leveling before you get the reward of some of the high level content such as the hazard zones and RWZ.
I dunno, I really want to like this feature, but there's bits of it I'm not agreeing with. If I can keep my powers (maybe scaled down somehow?), then I guess I'll be happy. Goodness only knows how I'll manage when one minute I'm fifty and the next I'm less than twenty with no stamina. >_<
Don't know if this has already been asked but will the level limit on Ouroboros still exist?
It think it kind of devalues those zones a bit. I know that I considered it an accomplishment the get my character who hates Rikti up to lv 35 so that she can get into the RWZ and start dishing out some payback.
Cimmeroa- meh, not so special anymore now that anyone who can complete the first Midnighters arc (approx lv 10) can get in. Dark Astoria?- so what? If you can get from the train station in talos out over the water...ok. I don't really object to any of these ideas, it just feels like we're losing something distinct in these parts of the game. |
I'm somewhat on the fence about some of these. I'm wondering if the email system itself will still be in game three issues from now, for starters. Yes, I found it useful and helped people out with it - now I might as well pick up my old cell phone (that hasn't worked in years) and try to tell them whatever, as I expect to see "does not accept emails" pretty continuously.
Plus, honestly, while the super-sidekicking will undoubtedly be useful - there are times I found it nice to have a much-higher-level come in and clear out a mission, without having to drop them from the team when they got inside.
I suppose this is a "We'll see" for me. I'm just not jumping up and down over the feeling I get reading all this.
Yup, but the requirements still exist on the Hamidon zones and the PVP zones.

Arc #40529 : The Furies of the Earth
This is awesome Positron. Just as long as you fix that power loss thing for being a few levels ahead. Don't want to be punished for being 49 and playing a 47 mission.
PS. The email options sound good but I never use the character friends list because we have the global one and my friends have multiple character And my SG is so large it spans multiple supergroups so our "true" member roster is our global channel which ensures we all stay in touch regardless of our characters or which SG division we're in. See a pattern here? Being able to only accept mail from the Global friends list and being able to designate the denizens of global channels as "safe" would be great. (Or even better, why not make the email global too?)
It seems I'm in the minority on this, but I really don't like this change. It seems more like a knee-jerk reaction to AE destroying spontaneous grouping than anything else. Please tell me that boss farms are going to be nuked in to oblivion as a result of this change, because if it isn't then the only reason the hordes of AE babies are going to shamble out of Atlas is because of some shiny new badge that they have yet to doorsit for came out.

(Which reminds me, weve added new features to the in-game Email system to either shut it off entirely, or only receive emails from people on your friends list and/or people in your Supergroup. Another step in the battle against annoying in-game spam.)

I mean, the super-sidekicking sounds okay too, but I am SERIOUSLY sick and tired of in-game spam! It's about time something this simple was finally added.

"If you two don't work this out RIGHT NOW, I'm turning this invasion around and going home!" - Emperor Cole
In general, a great announcement. But I'd like to put in my voice that it should be (or at least have the option for) based on Global Friends.
Character friends list seems to be a bit of an archaic throwback; I don't think I even *have* any on any of my characters. Either I, the human player, am a friend of the person on the other end of the global, or I'm not. If I am, it shouldn't matter in the slightest what character, server, faction, instance, superteam, or hairstyle they or I are currently playing as far as communications are concerned. |
The only real use I can see for the "character" friends list is to keep track of "What Heroes/Villains does this character know IC'ly?".

Maybe people powerleveling in AE had something to do with it... like a final straw to break the camel's back... but even if so, SO what?
As for Boss farms? Nah. You can still set the mission to 54, make everyone a boss and go in as a bunch of 50s or 49s.
The main issue with "Farming" "Power leveling" etc is its public presence. People spamming in broadcast or sending out of the blue tells is far more irksome than the idea that somewhere out there, someone is gaining levels very fast. True, some people hold an attitude of "Back in my day, when we wanted to level, we had to go barefoot, in the snow, uphill, BOTH ways!", but that's mostly a by-product of the annoyance they feel towards all these tells and broadcasts.

Allied to all sides so that no matter what, I'll come out on top!
Oh, and Crimson demands you play this arc-> Twisted Knives (MA Arc #397769)
And your statement that people were leveling characters from 0-50 in less than an hour during Double XP Weekend is ridiculous; it's not possible to level that fast (by the way, there is no Level 0 in the game). |
If mac posted, as he did, that people levelled that fast during the last Double XP Weekend, he is one of the few people I would believe without question on that. Did I personally see anyone level that fast, no, but that's due more to me not being into that type of gaming. I'm sure mac is being factual in what he posted there, and it is even possible that he himself did that. I don't know if he did, I'm not accusing him of using any exploits or anything else, just stating that if he says it was done, I will believe it was done.
Now, there are several people that could make the same post and I'd be skeptical about how fast the characters were levelled. There are a really small minority of players that could make the same post and I'd believe them as quickly as I believe mac. There are possibly some players that could make that statement and I'd call BS on it everytime they said it.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
As soon as the email thing is added, I am turning it OFF on all my characters.
Could we have the OPTION to:
TURN OFF EMAIL on Entire Account
No, people sending tells or yelling out for bridges has been a minor annoyance for a long time. People having to play "teammate tetris" with levels has been a VERY annoying issue for a loooong time.

No player will ever tell me how and where to look for a team or a farm... Some of the biggest bunch of cry baby rats i have ever seen are in this game...
farming and PLing in some shape and form will always be here.... Its not going anywhere... sad but true...
No one goes there anymore, it's too crowded...

It's rather obvious that mac was using the Level 0 reference as being a character that previously did not exist.

These are some quality changes! Can't wait to try them out.
Okay, not gonna read all of this thread right now, just gonna pop in my two cents.
LOVING all of this, especially the implication that power-loss when exemping might be fixed as it always irked me to join a team with someone, exemp down and not be able to fly, or effectively play as I had been for most of my recent career because I'm back down to one or two powers. If they've gotta be scaled down in power accordingly to access while exemp'd then so be it, I just want to be able to use them to relatively the same end.
The only thing that's making me a liiiiiittle one edge is the whole "20% more rewards in the lower levels" thing. I know it sounds fantastic and most people love the idea, I do too as it means I can join my friends with higher level toons sooner when I roll a new one, but what about story arcs that can be outleveled? I have yet to play through ANY of the epic archetype exclusive stories because I've been working on other toons and I'm worried that I might outlevel Sunstorm or Allen Deslock's missions and end up at a loss for what's suppose to be happening. Is there possibly going to be a re-adjustment to content that can be outlevelled to prevent this, or if we get close will we just have to switch off XP earning? I know I'm just another voice in the crowd but frankly I think any string of missions should be given the story arc treatment that once you've started it you can always come back to it even if you outlevel the contact. Maybe a little less obtrusive in that you can ignore it if you wish to, but you should be able to finish it. Like Veluta Lunata, I've heard of people getting up to her last one or two mishes and outlevelling her, which royally sucks.
Anywho, just my two cent initial reaction. Overall: AWESOME, just a little concerned about levelling TOO fast for us story-centric players.
Story people
Its quite easy to turn off your own exp, if you truely want to exp the story.
I turn mine off and then on and off and on, on my badge collectors.

Um... I like the idea of this "super sidekicking," but I'm a little concerned about the MANDATORY nature of the change. I liked fighting a couple of levels above what a mission is set for. It's not rare that I'll leave a mission behind and it will be a level or two below me. I don't feel like exemplaring to it, honestly. I also like levelling up mid-mission and suddenly seeing the rest of it become easier. I'm also terribly worried about what this will do outdoor travel, especially with exemparing put into account.
It's an interesting idea, but is fighting powerlevellers reason enough to make it mandatory?
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

I don't blame people for using AE, I really don't. You take a level 1 character that doesn't need to be a FOTM (a positive) and right away you have a medium in which to level that doesn't require door hopping and you have a large pool to draw groups from. Part of my twitchyness comes from the fact that the current system has been in place since Issue 2, but change is a necessary fact of life and I applaud the devs for taking the game in a new direction, but I wish more care had been taken in the development of Architect. Especially for the legitimate builders -- whose stories were left largely unplayed because AE was being used for quick levels.
I'm against boss farms. I think they breed stupid players. I can learn to live with this new system as long as something is done to get people out of AE and in to groups again.
I really don't give a damn about the public presence of PLing or Farming. I've been playing CoX on and off since before CoH first launched. There have ALWAYS been ways to PL - monkeys, warwolves, fake nems, CoT portals, etc. and there has ALWAYS been the advertisement of PL groups to go along with them, but the problem children have always been changed for the sake of the game. If AE isn't tweaked to reduce the abuse, then it will be the first time the game has changed for the sake of the PLers. Players get all of the rewards with none of the risk.
I'm hopeful that they're exploring every possible outcome of this change. I'm not going to argue too much since this feature will be implemented one way or another. I just hope that the devs are using the announcement of super-sidekicking as a means to cut the heart out of the real problem.
