Quite disappointed

Was anyone else as disappointed with the outcome of this 2xp weekend as I was? Server populations were quite low (I never saw freedom or virtue over yellow). Freedom at least, was down saturday morning, and whatever problem they were supposed to fix during maintenance, didn't get fixed. Freedom was incredibly laggy, and people were mapserving left and right the whole weekend. I was also really counting on people coming out of AE and playing this weekend as well, but since AE was giving 2xp too, everyone was just farming more than ever. Usually, I'm very psyched about 2xp weekends, but this one just didn't feel the same.

I had a great time. Sorry to hear you were disappointed.

As was pointed out to me in another thread, this has been one of the few double xp weekends not also associated with a reactivation weekend. As such, you don't have all those people returning to the game for a day or two.

There was also an Aion beta event during the weekend, and I'm sure some folks were taking part in that.

Freedom was pretty solid for me actually... not terribly laggy, only got mapserved once the whole weekend and no trouble getting back in.

I was pleasntly surprised that freedom didn't get full and counted that as an actual GOOD thing.

I actually don't like double XP weekends. After five years playing, I just really don't care about experience. I stopped playing to get levels a long time ago, and in my experience, people are more rude and obnoxious during those weekends. I only logged in to collect some info for the wiki, and stayed hidden the whole time.

As unpopular an idea as it might sound, I really wish they'd do away with double XP weekends. I think a fun replacement would be to have dev, reps, and GMs log in as signature characters over the course of the weekend and have parties, Q&A sessions, PvP events, contests, run missions with player teams, etc. THAT I would get excited about.

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)

I managed to drag TWO teams out of the AE to do real missions! Maybe three if I remember right.

I think it's been a fine weekend!

For whatever reason, this 2XP event seemed much less populated to me. Played at many different times on Sat and Sun, and never experienced the populations that I had seen with prior 2XP events.

Go Team Venture!

I've only been playing this toon a week and I hit 30 last night. I rather enjoyed having a boost of xp this weekend.

I thought it was rather stupid to do both at the same time honestly. I spent 5 hours on fri downloading the client and never even bothered playing it due to my desire to take advantage of COH dxp.

I did enter it for a few mins, however, I wasn't that impressed with the graphics. The scenery looked like a painted backdrop rather than an interactive world. Plus I'm not a PVP fan, I had my fill of it in WoW a long time ago . Even when it goes live I am debating whether I'll spend any significant time on it or not.

What does have me excited is the unannounced project NCs other studio is working on. I can't wait to see what it is they are cooking up.

It's amazing how our experiences were so incredibly different. I logged in Saturday after the maintenance and I was surprised to see how UN-laggy Freedom/CoV was for my poor laptop. Normally, lag is terrible and I've come acustomed to it when playing from that rig...but not Sat, and I even remember commenting to my team at that time which seemed to agree.

RE: Teaming

It was incredibly easy to start and maintain an 8 man team on Freedom/CoV. So easy in fact, at one point our SG had 3 teams running (mixture of SG mates and Pick-ups, and whatever team I was on kept 8 players easily. Remember, this is on CoV where the population is suppose to be scarce.

To conclude, I went from 39-42 on a dom and 8-32 on a corruptor. Double Exp felt just fine to me.

This.

I was on Freedom server most of the time with no issue. There were a few rare rubberband hiccups, but nothing that interfered with gameplay at all.

I also decided to check out Protector to test it out and actually spent a few hours playing there as well. Despite the issues posted on the boards, I didn't have any problems playing there at all. If anything, performance was better than Freedom. lol

As for what I was doing..
I was working on my influence badges by doing Radio mission teams in PI. I also joined a few TFs over the course of the weekend, including: Faathim, ITF, LGTF, and Hess.

Yes, good times.

I had fun. Ran with friends, made inf, etc.

Tony, why not try to be a dev since you love 'em so much? lol. Personally, hanging with a dev doesn't sound as fun as killing stuff to me. Different strokes, i guess.

Sorry Firespray, I had a great time.

Got my first level 50 hero.
Did a couple of taskforces. (Positron and Imperious)

Earned a bunch of influence and furthermore, got to team with some good people, had some fun and finished it off by getting my Bonecrusher and Kill Skuls badges.

You must not have seen one in-game then. lol

Last time I hung out with a dev, there were monsters running all over PocketD. There was LOTS of killing going on! Fun times I tell you! haha

But seriously, it is nice talking with them as well. Despite what many think, they do take our feedback seriously, and what better way to get a message across than to talk to one personally. And sometimes they will give you hints of things to come.

You summed up my feelings exactly.

Maybe instead of double xp weekend they do a double merit weekend to get people out running TF/SF and out of AE.

I enjoyed the 2XP weekend - did a couple of ITFs, so there was the usual lag on the 3rd mission, but didn't notice any unusal lag anywhere else.

Just got the game back this last friday (boosted xp was a coincidence) and when I first got on Freedom it was near unplayable. Teams I joined as I checked out my old alts all disbanded after one mission because they couldn't really play. Loading onto the server and switching characters took a long time and costumes did not load, just black blanks of my characters standing there at the selection screen.

This improved dramatically for me after the downtime and it was quite playable. I even bought the magic booster and was logging in and out and remaking a few lowbies before I settled on one to play for a while, with no connection issues at all.

I just thought everyone was in the AE. Having x2 xp in the AE was a weird idea... wonder how many people will have their toons deleted for advancing too fast when x2 xp was on? From 1-50 in a very short time for some people.

I doorsat with a lvl 19 toon I was pretty stuck with. For one mish. Took 45 min tops. Came out at lvl 35. Well, now at least I am not stuck anymore.

The indicators do not reflect population, they show server load. So Freedom and Virtue being at yellow doesn't mean there were less or more people on the server than any given time. To know how many people are on you should try /search.

i too was quite disappointed in this weekend. found 1 team the entire weekend. mostly soloed. tried all the famaliar ways to get a team going noone wanted to come out of AE. and i dont go in so it made for a boring weekend but its over now and i can get back to reg mishs with a good team.

I found plenty of teams outside of AE and ran two TFs Sunday night, so no, your experience is not the norm

And yes, this was on Virtue.

I had a great time. Didn't reach my goal of getting a level 50 villain on my second account, but I got her to 44 so it was a good run. I also got a bunch of lowbies to the magic levels of 14 and 22, and I didn't have any problems with connection on Virtue until late last night, when it was bedtime for me anyway.

Oh gods. Mapserving twice in the last Posi mission and then a LONG 'serve right as we find the last mob - I was ready to kill the server last night

I also had a great time this weekend. I play at off-peak hours, so I mostly solo, and especially in the upper levels when EBs feature in many story arcs my toons often get stuck. Got two of my toons moving again, and had no problems with teams at any time, so it was a good time.

I'm pretty sure they updated the servers. Or something weird is going on with the server population readout. I think even last double exp weekend it never showed red. Anyway, it was definitely highly populated. If you only went by the population readout, that wasn't very accurate.

I had trouble logging in all weekend and it was slow to connect to the game each time I did log in. Two separate occasions I got repeated disconnects and took more than fiteen minutes to connect. There were 2 Caps and 2 Grandvilles all weekend. I suffered a ton of mapservers. None of that would happen on medium load, because Virtue is always on medium load. The server was strained.
