For me this was the best 2XP weekend I've had since I started playing the game and it's partly due to AE and -not- because of the farming.
Usually on 2XP weekends it's also reactivation weekend so what you get is a lot of choices of a lot of people for your teams... but those are mostly people who don't know or don't remember how to play (either at all, or their specific AT's) so what you get is someone who's level 26 with no travel power, not even a temporary one.
So a team of these with maybe three people on that team knowing how to play, the missions are messy, you have to lead with an iron fist and then people drop without saying anything. In the past, the people I've teamed with for 2XP have been absolute nightmares.
This time, because of AE, building teams was easier. You could literally pick anyone from any level, even someone level one because after just one run they'd be level 16. Made it -much- easier to team with friends who might have wanted to switch toons constantly, without needing to worry about SK room.
And more importantly, because there was no free reactivation, there weren't as many people being rude, obnoxious and petty. I formed about four teams, constantly switching out people and I can say that every team that I formed was awesome. I had a realy good time this weekend. Leveling my toons was incidental.
Or something weird is going on with the server population readout. I think even last double exp weekend it never showed red.

Not sure if virtue grayed out at all last time though.

i too was quite disappointed in this weekend. found 1 team the entire weekend. mostly soloed. tried all the famaliar ways to get a team going noone wanted to come out of AE. and i dont go in so it made for a boring weekend but its over now and i can get back to reg mishs with a good team.

The lag was annoying but not constant.
I was also concerned about the population when it did not show red like the last few DXP weekends. Happy to hear that was due to the lack of return players. I know they use the DXP weekends to get players back but I hope they keep it this way as a thank you to the current players.
Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.

I don't know, as I didn't have to do any switching that time

I had a fantastic time on Virtue! I expected AP & AP2, but was pleasantly surprised to see a PI & PI2
Some people are just determined to complain!! It goes from "2XP??! Too much lag, I'm staying away!!" to "Where are all the people?!! DOOOOOOOOM!!"
C'mon people, chill!!
Fight My Brute
I’m one of those weirdos who likes to have a plan of attack for double xp weekends. This time around I met all of my goals by Saturday. Managed to level of couple of other alts I don’t play that often on Sunday. Made a bloody fortune on my now level 47 shield tank and will finish setting him out with unabashed glee once the market settles. I did run into the constant mapserve issue on two servers, but still managed to get fire imps on my Dom.
I had no trouble finding teams and my shadow only crossed the threshold of AE twice for all of about 3 missions the whole weekend.
All in all, a good double xp. Nice that there was no free reactivation.

i had planned to finally get a villain up to 50 to unlock VEAT's, as my highest vill was level 22, i've always had a devil of a time finding consistent teams on red side. and i freely admit planning on using AE to attain my goal.
funny thing happened, after a run or two i had obviously out leveled my enhancers, and spent my tickets on reward rolls, so i figured i would go buy SO's, well i realized there are zones i have never seen, TONS of content i have never done, and loads of fun to be had on red side that i have not yet reached. so i got my Corr up to 40 to access higher level content, and am thrilled i stopped, looking forward to FINALLY playing in grandville
kinda glad i could scream thru some levels after two years of failing to get a higher level vill, but i have a renewed sense of awe with the game that i haven't had in awhile, YAY 2BL XPEES
Oh yeah, that was the time that girl got her whatchamacallit stuck in that guys dooblickitz and then what his name did that thing with the lizards and it cleared right up.
screw your joke, i want "FREEM"
Just a question; why do you find it a hassle to get a higher level villain? I didn't find it difficult at all and I absolutely love all the content in this game.
I find it refreshing that no two characters ever have to follow the same path with all the variety of contact unlocks and zones.

You know what bugs me?
Before this double XP weekend, people would come here on the forums, whining about the fact that Double XP weekend was too busy, servers were over-populated due to account reactivations, and they didn't get to play, and for this they wanna cancel their subscription
This double XP weekend, people are coming here on the forums, whining about the fact population was too low and from that concluding that AE is killing CoH, and they'd be better off jumping off a sinking boat by cancelling their subscription.
Before the PvP changes, people would come here on the forums, whining about how PvP is lame and how it is unbalanced and how they were gonna quit the game over it.
After the PvP changes, people would come here on the forums, whining about how PvP is lame and how it is unbalanced and how they are gonna quit the game over it.
Before AE was developed, people would come here on the forums, whining about how slow leveling was. Every 5 days, someone would post a thread in suggestions board that veterans should have an option to start a character at level 20. They would go on and on about how the content in this game was so boring and that they were getting tired of "beating the same old mobs" over and over again, and for this, they were gonna move on to a more shiny game.
After AE was developed, people would come here on the forums, whining about how leveling is too fast. Every 5 days, someone posts a thread about AE ruining CoH. They go on and on about how AE is being abused and that devs aren't doing anything about it and how going from level 1 to 50 in a few days is an unforgivable sin. They complain about how playing in AE is boring cause you beat on the same old mobs over and over again, and for this, they feel like CoH is dying and they should leave before its too late.
Notice a trend here?
The developers of this game have spoiled some people way too much.
Its the same in every MMO though. There are things some people like and there are things some people hate. Regardless of what the Devs do, you're going to get people on one side of the fence while some are on the other.

Mind you, I'm not talking about the original poster. Their complaint was more or less legit compared to the other ones. My post was basically a somewhat off-topic rant, because coming to forums has become something depressing as of late with all these QQ threads.
I was very surprised at the lack of population as well just going off the past where Freedom and Virtue were essentially greyed out. Maybe it was the summer, I don't now, but it worries me to a degree about the lack of people. Overall, another good experience, especially with AE giving off double xp.

Was anyone else as disappointed with the outcome of this 2xp weekend as I was? Server populations were quite low (I never saw freedom or virtue over yellow). Freedom at least, was down saturday morning, and whatever problem they were supposed to fix during maintenance, didn't get fixed. Freedom was incredibly laggy, and people were mapserving left and right the whole weekend. I was also really counting on people coming out of AE and playing this weekend as well, but since AE was giving 2xp too, everyone was just farming more than ever. Usually, I'm very psyched about 2xp weekends, but this one just didn't feel the same.

So... if the servers go down, people ***** and moan about servers being down.
If the servers DONT go down, people ***** and moan about servers NOT being down.
Either way, DXP weekend is always abhorrently laggy for about half (or more) of the playerbase, causing people to ***** and moan.

don't get me wrong, i love this game, i play mostly blueside, but that's just due to teaming issues redside, it happily took me two plus years to get my first fifty, and i was in no way put out, i am a serious altoholic, love playing a ton of different characters and trying to do different mish's each time, i like this game and am not complaining.
but on redside, i find teaming to be pretty easy thru the late teens and sometimes early twenties, but after that it seems harder (could very well just be bad luck on my part). to compound the issue, the redside AT's seem very self sufficient, and as i solo alot this is fine, except early twenties is when leveling really slows down, and i will solo, but the lack of tangible reward everytime i logon seem to make my focus wander, so i end up on yet another alt it was in no way a critisism of the game that i dont have a red 50 yet, just an observation, and one i had planned on correcting this 2bl xp weekend. but like i stated before, once i went to grandville to grab SO's (and realized i needed to be in St. Martial to get the level i needed) it was an eye opener. it was just like the first time i got to founders falls, and was googley eyed at all the prettyness so i stopped leveling at 40, my Corr is quite impressive now, i am actually trying to figure out a good "build" (i'm a concept player, not a power player, so builds and whatnot is not something i normally do, or at least plan for) and i'm looking forward to the niffty villain content that i have never played. hopefully i will have better luck finding reliable teams on infinity redside now, but if not i will solo as much as i can.
side note/question, when where do you do the Patron arcs? i know most people feel the PPP's are garbage, but i think i would like to build my Corr for +def, and Black Scorpions +def shield would help, though i don't see much else i would want in there, so maybe i'll dip into to it for a single power i'm all excited about this now, yay, geekgasm!

I had an awesome weekend and got a lot accomplished in game (and out ). Just like every other weekend, only I seem to have gained a few extra levels this time.
I coulda swore I saw freedom and virtue grey on saturday night...
Regardless, I admit I didn't play as much as I usually do Double XP weekend, but that was partially due to being in a closed beta for a game (no, not Aion) that I was really digging. Did manage to get from 29 to 33 on my Energy Energy Blaster tho.
I didn't get as much out of the 2xp weekend as I anticipated. For starters, on Saturday we took the kids to the waterpark so I missed almost an entire day of playtime. Sunday, leveling still seemed "slow", certainly not twice as fast as normal, but when I thought about it it made sense. The difference between patrol xp (1.5x) and double xp (2x) isn't all that big. So for people who bounce around between different alts (or just don't play as many hours per week) and build up lots of patrol xp, the 2xp weekends don't zoom them through the levels like they did "in the good old days".
Well, this is TopDoc we're talking about. TopDoc would respec to gain 3 points of damage per day. - Arcanaville

I'm not sure what was up with the lag issues either. I certainly didn't run into lag like this during the last 2xp weekend, and I'm running the same system now as I was then. And for me at least, the server maintenance saturday morning on freedom did nothing to fix the issues.
As far as population goes, I hadn't realized that this 2xp weekend was not also a reactivation weekend, so I'm sure that had something to do with it. And I think part of it was also just my expectations at work. I had expected (like I'm sure a lot of people did) that architect missions would not be giving double xp, so I thought there would be a lot more people running regular content and a lot less people farming. It wasn't that I couldn't find teams, I ran several normal mission teams over the weekend, and I even started a couple task forces (and found out the hard way that the manticore TF bug wasn't fixed yet). The feeling just wasn't the same for me.
I'm not sure what you're talking about with the servers going down. I've never heard a single person complain that a server wasn't down. Why would anyone EVER want a server to go down?
|
Sadly, a lot of these people want to ignore the fact that we didn't have a reactivation weekend. Cause that would poke a huge hole in their oh-so-coherent logic. xD
Bah had a blast lotsa teaming, mostly content very little ae.Got 2-50's outta the deal and made some new friends.
