Horse gate shut anyone

To me this is an over reaction anyone with half an inch of commen sense would have seen this coming. The US and the EU boards were full of players openly talking about farms and what they were going to make. That was the time to say NO STOP we will sanction any farms.

To do so now and punish those who had the imagination to come up with the farms (yes imagination did you see the riki com officer being a farm) is hypicritical. There the ones that desighned it this way not us.

They should own up to ther own mistakes not take it out on the players.

In there position I would have said ok we made a mistake lets look at the exploites and nerf them. I.E cut the xp give by one group. Or why not have decreasing xp for all groups. The more you fight 1 group the less xp. Just a couple of ideas.

@Elementar - I understand your point there, but you're comparing chalk and cheese. The mobs in DA are SUPPOSED to vulnerable to fire and were designed that way. The MA was not supposed to become a farming paradise, and wasn't designed to be so.

@Singstar - I doubt very much I'm agreeing with you on anything. An exploit is anything that doesn't function as intended by the dev team. The MA was never intended as a mechanism to level from 1 to 50 in a matter of hours, therefore using to to do so is an exploit.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hmm, someone mentioned something about a WARSHADE! Familiar?

Yet again: If I tell you I'm gonna shoot you and you give me a gun, then don't go nuts when I do shoot you, that was my point and noone disagreed on that. You're insane if you give me a gun unless it's a water gun.

Again:
1. The devs could have fixed it faster.
2. The devs could have taken it down until the RCOs could be taken out
3. The devs could have purged every mission with RCO's just like they've basically done now
4. I don't mind the devs taking down farm missions and warning people, then slapping them if they do the same thing again
5. When faced with competition it's insane to upset EITHER side the farmers or the farm-haters. Sure they had to do something, but they chose to do nothing, then do this.
6. Obviously you like hugging devs and don't care about the games actual survival. I still love this game ergo I have to consider you a great threat to the game and hope the devs get to you. ...hmm, yeah... warshade!

i completely agree they never intended it to become the monster farm it is. however the list of weaker mobs that give good rewards goes on, just picked that as it's uber fun. the real point is people did that before MA the devs gave us the chance to choose what we fought so why the shock we chose to fight stuff that was "easy xps eleventyone!!"

i agree with you totally _evie_ this is not the way it was intended. they must however share some of the blame rather than looking at their creation and wondering how it got like that.....

You don't get to decide that.

Yes I do.

It doesnt break the EULA, Its not an exploit!
Simple

[/ QUOTE ]

LOL, this is awesome So much [censored] being spouted by people who have no clue

Srsly, like the Devs are going to perma-ban someone for getting an extra level or 2

It's far more likely they will have a "sliding scale of naughtiness" - lvl 1-50 in 4 hours on one toon, get a warning, do it again and again, you get your character locked or deleted.

Create a mission that's all the same mob that's known for farming once, get a warning and possibly the mission arc locked, do it again and again and get them all locked

[/ QUOTE ]

This is what I suspect will happen, they wont go to the extent Positron is making out in his 'Daddy is mad at the kids' speech, it'll mostly be a "ok you've had your fun...now behave or else, especially now you've been warned!"

Personally, the whole ban thing...it sounds like a lot of bark but I do suspect no bite, it's possibly an empty threat or greatly reduced threat, though I wouldn't be surprised if that was indeed the case but...

[/ QUOTE ]

I think there'll be enough PLed 50s suspended to generate a reaction that'll filter through to the whole player base - they won't need to keep doing it, as once they've been shown to carry out the threat, then PLers won't take the risk, I think.

i dont see the point in putting this rule in. i mean farming happens in every MMORPG, its still leveling just a faster way, desnt really bother me if it stops or stays, just think its pathetic how the GM's are making such a big deal about it.

I never said I was innocent... I rocked up a whole 9 levels on my warshade. Difference is this, I did it, and if I'm punished for it I'm going to take my licks because I know damn well I exploited a flawed system.

I'm not under the pretence that it's the dev's fault for giving me the means to do it. In short, I'm taking responsibility for my own actions instead of pretending someone made me do it.

/EDIT - I'm gonna add a little more here...

In response,

1. Nobody made you farm
2. Nobody made you farm
3. Nobody made you farm
4. But so long as they don't take your ill gotten gains off you, right?
5. That's their decision to make for better or worse. Positron is confident that CoH can stand up to the competition.
6. Dev hugging? Not quite, Positron is still quite unpopular in my book. Don't care about the game? Which is why I'm here voicing my support for Positron's kill or cure solution to farming. I've loved this game since day one, hence my still being here.

Indeed! Of course they had to do something about it, that's their job. They COULD do something about it, and now they have although way too late. Punishing players (and I doubt they'd find any reason to do it to me) is just bad business.

..but bad bussiness is what NC is all about. Auto Assault, Tabula Rasa, Enhancement diversification, pvp changes, the incredible ads we've all seen everywhere [SIC]. Yup Bad bussiness'R'US (bad double pun intended)

Gratz to Posi for once again pulling the game one step further down into the grave with a simple post. He's really getting good at that! If Cryptic isn't already paying him, they really, really should!

Farming in an MMO is needed, to sustain rare items/recipes etc, but MA is just excessive, it's only advantage it offers is XP so cut the XP an jobs a good un.

Farming in CoX is excessive it needs to stop, it's to global, instead of only a small scale set of hardcore farmers (we all know some) farming at night keeping themselves to themselves, everyone is wanting to farm new or old players, an it's not good.

As i said hardcore small scale farmers who get us our rare items help keep rare salvage/recipes availible, without them be sky high prices.

Cut XP in half in MA an watch regular teams/missions becoming active

That's a quote from something I personally said on Badgehunters... and I'll repeat the follow on comments from that you for some reason decided not to quote here for everyone; that is that most of the high rated arcs were either experience farms or, in the case of some of the others, were being voted for based upon popularity of the author (their SGs were voting for them en-masse) or just because it appealed to the lowest common denominator.

[/ QUOTE ]
I honestly can't recall who said it at the time and I don't recall reading the follow-up (I was playing my dom yesterday so I was likely rather busy at the time). I didn't think it was you as I tend to take more notice of what my global-friends say, but I've heard similar justification over the past two days on that channel from others.

It just struck me as a weak justification - yeah we know those people over there are wrecking this system, so we'll jump in and do it too, because it doesn't really matter and doing it to get badges faster is obviously not as bad as doing it to get xp/inf faster. That's a herd mentality, it's lame, and always leads to bad outcomes for others. I didn't expect you to weigh in on the pro- side of that particular argument, even if herds (and farms I guess) are rather appropriate to your bovine side

Yeah I know that there will still be tons of dross in the MA, even in lieu of changes to cut down the ratings-rigging by farmers, badgers and other rating cartels - because 90% of everything is rubbish - but honestly you can't say badging cartels were helping matters. When MMOs degenerate it's a slow process and the fault always lies on both sides, but it's rarely due to one single event - everything counts.

Honestly it's the same logic as with farming. There has been farming since I first started playing in I5 - I9 made it more visible but still a minority activity - then I14 really made it explode into being mainstream play. It's a matter of how many people are condoning something that pushes it towards a tipping point of affecting the majority of the playerbase - then that activity or playstyle gains mainstream acceptance. That's when it's too late to put the lid back on the box.

That happened with farming in I14 because it was so easy - and yes it's partly the Dev's fault for making it so easy, but the playerbase has to share a large portion of the blame as well - most knew it was wrong, you can see that from comments on here and in-game.

Sure, the badging cartels are probably not having a major affect at the moment, but they are contributing to making the ratings system broken. Far more importantly just having that message up on SBH, one of the most popularly used global channels in the EU game, is suggesting that all the mods of that channel condone rating-fixing schemes. There are players who look up to mods, veterans and particularly vocal community members and things like this just encourage the rot to set in. Word spreads and soon it becomes the accepted norm.

Honestly I don't care about getting to the top of any vote - I just want to be able to find Dev-quality in-canon arcs in the MA more easily, and hopefully have my arcs counted among that group so that I can give back some enjoyment to others who appreciate story over rewards/badges, in the same way I would hopefully get enjoyment from their arcs... if I could find them.

I think its a brilliant idea! if people want to farm and loose the sence of achievement with a game, well its simple. Go find a different game, and let the real good players plays this game, so we can enjoy it without getting spammed with "hi u wanne farm for money/fun/what ever"..
Some of us do enjoy playing the game and having a sence of joy getting that one single lvl in a day or seeing your character build up strength and more powers over time. Its one of the best thing they made for this game, finally they taking action to people that exploit a thing in the game.

Well, i love it

I like the idea that the arc I spent a full week working on, working out storylines, critters and AVs might actually get a chance to be played now it won't be buried under 500 pages of bloody Rikti Comms Maps!

You know, kind of what the MA was intended for

Now, if we can just get that map editor included as well......

You got those spams ANYWAY pre-Issue 14...yeesh I think I was level 45 on my invuln/SS tanker (was level 50 long before Issue 14) for all of 5 minutes before getting several 'want to join a farm?' tells.

...and give it five minutes if I log into a 50, once again, pre-Issue 14, I'd get multiple tells asking if I wanted to join a farm.

It just wasn't in broadcast was all, admittedly it also wasn't as prevelant as it was today but by god don't gloss over the fact that farming spam only turned up waaaaayyyy before Issue 14 brought it in to the real mainstream.

Once the changes hit, well, it'll be back to god knows how many fill/bridging/farm requests in tells on a nightly basis anyway...atleast it's out of the public view ahey...
