Just rolled a toon in Atlas.

To test just how destructive MA is, I'm going to see just how high a level I can get to tonight.

I'm at 18 right now after 2 missions.

I'll update.

I just teamed up in the MA (asking for 'team', not 'farm') and joined in a Rikti-farming mission with captive-freeing and object-destroying by the truckload.

This group had a lvl 37 asking/checking if the blue inspirations increased your Endurance.

Oh hurrah.

I have a simple question. If it takes, what, an hour for us to construct a mission, then the experts should be able to do that too.

So,is it possible they never tested their own MA? In which case they would have seen just how fast you can level?

Because this is way way worse than power levelingever was even back in the early days. And you dont even get to experience the content the devs so badly want us to play out.

It's like the world (this world anyway) has gone mad.

Did Blizzard ever test their RaF system? Then why people only use it to lvl 4 characters to 60 in 1 day? Did they ever test the skills in GW, making nearly unbeatable farming bots? This all those numberous MMO's test their security, and yet they are fill with 'anti GG' cheaters.

Its not the system, is the player. They gave a tool, players abused it. Portscanners were made for security, now they only used to find 'holes'.

Give a player an inch and they will take a mile. Some people spend like 90 pounds in total to achieve their level 50s and now you can have a good 30 of them for 8,99 which is a months subscription.

It's kind of like buying a car and driving it onto the road, the first couple of grand of its worth is gone and you will only see it back from its usage. So in order to get your money back you also use the MA system for the alts that were idle would likes, experiments and for teams, characters that are "Needy" of certain powersets due to the Laws of the game they write for themselves.

All those who really can't be bothered to abuse the system will never get there money back and what does that say? Don't waste money on a NCSoft game until NCSoft makes the game worthwhile for the "want it nao" society.

Looking at my money spent over time leveling alts I am wondering if its been worthwhile and have to say probably not but one can join in, but I get bored with easy pretty fast.

By the way, some people may have noticed me defending the MA with passion these past few days. I don't defend or denny the farming being done, this is an abuse of MA and what it can offer, also it's killing the transaction balance.

However I do believe that the basic set up for MA is correct, giving xp and influence. What should be done is fix abuses of the system as they come, like the current issue with comms officers, idealy these solutions should not be heavy handed like removing the offending mob, but something more subtle, also they should be a damn lot faster in implementation.

One of the most astonishing little statistics that ever came out of Games Workshop years ago (heopfully it's changed these days...I doubt it), was how many battles could typically be played in the creation/recreation of Warhammer 40k armies. It was 'about 70'. That was it. About 70. Tens of thousands of players would step up to the challenge of abusing a paper based tabletop ruleset that had been tested in less than a hundred battles, and by its paper based nature would have no effective method of 'patching'. It became absolutely clear just why the rules had more holes than a guy in a pinstripe suit on Valentines Day.

In terms of the scale of surprise for the community, it would be like discovering that D-Day actually had no planning, they just put as many guys as they could find on boats and 'winged it'.

i'm aware of all this. But surely the devs are too. Which reprompts my question:
If they knew it was going to happen, why introduce this in the first place? It completely flys in the face of everything the game is trying to achieve.

I got a 'convict' like that in my tabletop group. He WILL find the exploiting rules in no time AND start using them ti earnest. No matter how hard we try to press him to use the pencil for drawing. He keeps saying that as it has a point, it is made to kill. The drawing is optional.

Same with this. You can't patch enough to make them stop. They ALWAYS find new holes to exploit. The patches only hurt the good players, not the bad.

So your suggestion is to leave the MA as is and let people level like mad from 1 to 50 in a day if they want to?

PS: Don't know what kind of game you're running in your table top group, but when I have a player like that in a game I'm running, I keep changing the rules he abuses, if a rule is broken, fix it, that's your damn job as the GM. If he doesn't like it, get a different player.

^^ Very much this. There has always been a "want it now" section of the playerbase. It just seems (to me at least) that this group is now the majority rather than the minority. The last couple of weeks has not only made me think about whether or not I want to continue playing City of Heroes, but MMO's in general. Doesn't matter how good the mechanics of the game are, it's the community that makes or breaks it, and in every MMO I've played recently it's the same old story. Full of impatient, l33t kids, or holier than thou self obsessed idiots. Finding good humoured, laid back people to play with is becoming increasingly difficult.

I've rediscovered an old hobby of mine in radio control cars. Buying second hand Tamiya kits from the 80s on ebay and restoring them. It's incredibly satisfying, and more importantly the online community is a completely different kettle of fish to every gaming forum I've ever been on.

Games Workshop has an excessive need for ridiculous rules, theres about 5 billion things if a model wants to shoot someone. And since you can't memorize the book, your constantly looking it up. Me, I just collect the models.

Removing the mob breaks any 'legitimate' arcs that used the mob. As MA practically is I14 any changes that break a reasonable number of legitimate arcs could be argued to break I14.

But there are partial measures to address the 'offending mob' that would have minimal impact on legitimate MA Arcs and dev-created arcs.

e.g. Temporarily drop the xp on those mobs - decimate it. They then become far less useful for farming but are still usable.

Of course, this is just a temporary measure still, whilst a better permanent fix is found to dissuade abuse of the system. It can't really be permanent as, as I've said before, nerf one mob that farmers use and they just move onto the next best mob for farming and the only people really adversely affected are those who used/faced the mobs without exploiting them.

Same (Chaos)
Even if the Dev's nerf the current mobs people will just create custom mobs that are high ranked and barely put up a fight. That is something that everyone knows the Dev's won't touch without taking down the MA.

True, hence me saying: as long as we get them back....I guess this is where better communication comes in. As for saying that breaking a few arcs effectively breaks I14 that's just blowing the whole thing out of proportion.
You remove a mob: people get irritated and some arcs will need correcting, that's litterally all that will happen. The only way to break I14 would be to remove the Architect altogether....something I sincerely hope they never do.

I'd love it if they were able to fix any exploit elegantly in game without effecting some other part of it, but the whole thing seems so interconnected that unfortunately I suspect the only way is to remove it and deal with it seperately.

Problem is that when you try to plug every hole, you will hurt the normal players. The only way to stop these types is to completely remove the competitive thing from the game. Which would make the game rather boring.

It is human nature to wand the things we desire now rather then later. Normally most of us can temper that “wand it now” feeling with realistic expectations, but when it is possible to get it now most will choose that option. It is common sense really.

Simply reworking the xp gains when you are auto SKed would solve a lot of this. Part of the problem is that you can fight level 45 mobs from level 1, with out another player to power level you.
And an over all XP and Inf reduction in the MA would take care of the abuse of specific mobs. That would leave the MA as the place to go to experience new story lines.

Lets just hope the problems are fixed soon after the anniversary issue goes live (that will properly be the DEVs first priority at the moment)

The trouble is, with the rewards removed/lowered a lot, no one will bother with it, it will just be another empty zone.

Which means 2 issues wasted.
