Better there than here IMO, but I'm sure GR and I are in very different circumstances.

Good luck, hope you land firmly on your feet.

Afraid you'll all need to be patient to find out what happens with regards CoH in Europe. A whole helluva lot changed yesterday, and it's going to take some time for the folks at NCNC to formulate their plans going forward.

Any more tidbits we can coax out of you? What changed? Bad financials, copyright claim, change of game direction...?

It always does - hope that NC are doing the utmost to keep you guys informed though. Bad when these things happen, best you can hope is that the company deal with the employees in a thoughtful manner and try to help them as much as they can.

All the best for the future.

It's appreciated that this is no longer your prime concern, GR, and not of your doing in the first place.

That said, I'd have hoped NCNC would have formulated their plans in advance, and have them ready to announce when the brown stuff hit the air shifter.

I'm getting the impression the bigwigs were down the pub Monday night and drew up plans along the lines of "we'll close the Brighton Office tomorrow, and when that's done...erm, we'll wing it".

To be honest, and this is NOT a dig at GR at all, but I find it REALLY REALLY hard to believe that they'd take the decision to downsize (gut) the Brighton offices without also decided what to do regarding the EU community.

Notice that you're doing a sterling job talking to the americans on their boards FFM...

I just love the guy who wrote the following:

Gamewise bringing the EU players over to the US will hurt no one and will only enhance everyones playing experience in my opinion.

[/ QUOTE ]
Don't suppose he's considered that if they make a ballsup of a transfer that it could end up hurting plenty - y'know as most of the 'hundreds' of players decide that giving NC the finger is preferable to starting from scratch.

Mind you, the same person reckons we shouldn't be upset with anyone except Richard Garriott (whilst getting his name wrong) as if the ego-trip into space and development costs are what is stopping NC from communicating with its customers/players.

Already realising that a move to the US boards would seriously alter the signal to noise ratio we've enjoyed over here.

Thanks for a brief heads up GR.

And yes it all smacks of a very ruthless management tactic. These chops and cuts are purely business moves and most probably made by people who never have or will ever play a computer game. They have little or no interest in the customers beyond the nitty gritty numbers they see on statements and reports.

I only hope that the staff who do actually care about us customers arent too jaded by these cuts and fight for the best solution for us as customers.

Unfortunately on the evidence of the NC overlords current actions I can only assume the worst. The easiest and cheapest option would most probably be to simply shut the eu servers and offer refunds or time on the us servers. In the wake of such sweeping cuts and potential job losses I cant see the huge amount of work being supported in server moves or merges.

Shame for the guys, it really is, GR seem to be a nice bloke. Fingers crossed for them when they hit jobsite.com

As for playing on the US, what I would like to see is 1 worldwide server list. We can see the us servers, they can see ours.

If not if the servers were merged, I'm sure they could do stuff with titles to distinguish between US & EU players.

Larac has a point, actually... WAR had unified worldwide servers from the beginning with no issues. Has the law changed?

Well, to be completely accurate, he was my god father, not my uncle; but I always called him just Uncle Shirley. Have known him since I was knee high to a wasp and it's only a disagreement between Shirley's missus and my dad that our families drifted apart in the 15 years before he passed.

He and my dad were in the army together, and were wrestlers together. Old old friends.

As of yesterday (according to NC West) these further redundancies finalised their restructuring plan, but according to the above statement Issued today indicates something further, some external situation that has happened that was not in NCNC's Internal game plan.

... Would that be a fair assumption?, or maybe I've just read that into the wording of your phrasing and seen political intrigue where there is none?.
