Don't get too excited, we've had ours for about a year - we've never been asked to use it, despite doing most of our banking online.

PS: Incase people missed it, NC was weird that it accepted Maestro in the first place.

[/ QUOTE ]Yeah, it's pretty weird of a company to want money from their customers all right.

Looking at the CoH marketing, you might think they were reluctant to even find customers

Curious - why not use a credit card to pay for the sub? Set up a standing order with your bank to pay off the credit card each month and it's all more or less automatic, with no additional charges.

[/ QUOTE ]going brank rupter will not let you have any credit cards for a while due to the fact i got to rebuild my credit

also if like me you have a credit card and use it for large amounts (new car summer holiday etc) having a coh sub go on it would cost me more interest something i would like to avoid

Perhaps a red name response as to WHY they've done this would be good rather than just being told they no longer accept this method of payment.

I have to apologise for the delay in responding to this thread. As I was in the US (and travelling back from the US) last week when this thread was posted, checking up on the reasons for this change took a bit of time.

I'm following up internally today, however I have already been notified that the reason for this change is due to a policy change by Maestro. If it was up to us we would still accept Maestro.

We are currently looking into alternative methods for Maestro users to purchase game time, and I'll post back to this thread as soon as I have further information.

Thanks, GR.

And may I say that I, for one, would be perfectly happy to use Direct Debit. (Unlikely, I know, but damn me, it would get round some of the problems.)

As others have pointed out in passing above, paypal accepts Maestro UK, and I believe we can purchase game time with paypal. But I would indicate that not everything can be bought via paypal currently, so maestro users will not be able to (for example) purchase additional slots. Please can this be looked into since altoholics like myself love them extra slots and Maestro is my only card atm.

I must confess my confusion with this as well.. Myself and my Girlfriend both Pay using Maestro cards, we don't have credit cards and don't intend getting any.. While Paypal is indeed an option, the annoyance is that you can't pay automatically, so we will potentially end up with downtime.. Given that every shop we go into, and over 90% of major online shops (guesstimate) accept Maestro, what does it say about NCsoft that they can't/won't accept one of the major payment methods from the UK. Also of great annoyance is that while you cna indeed use paypal, you can't use it in conjunction with NCsoft without registering your bank details with them... (however you do not have to do this with lots of other people (my Girlfriend regularly uses her paypal with ebay without having this problem before...)

Re-iterating my earlier post, and with a little more information provided, this was not our choice. The removal of Maestro as an auto-renew recurring billing method for subscriptions has occurred because we are in the process of making our systems compliant with new requirements that MasterCard have put in place for Maestro.

These new requirements prevent automatic recurring billing (as they require the card owner to verify the transaction when it occurs), amongst other things.

Over the coming months you will begin seeing these changes by MasterCard/Maestro impact on other online services and how they are able to handle Maestro as a payment method.

The only way we can offer PayPal as an option at all is by minimising the risk of fraudulent purchases. This protects both us and you as a customer. eBay is merely a middleman between the buyer and seller in the vast majority of cases, so they are not a good point of comparison (especially as PayPal is owned by eBay).

Is there any other means to pay for a Character Transfer besides a credit card on file?
The systems currently in use for Character Transfer and Character Rename do not include the option to use a game time card or any other payment option for these services. Only with a card on file for recurring billing is it possible to purchase these items.

So my question is Will paypal be able to take over this card lost or was it only for credit cards??

It's not affecting the NCSoft store though - I bought two copies of COV Collector's Edition from there yesterday using my Maestro card.

If it's just affecting recurring billing for subs, how will it affect cards already on file for auto-renew?

The problem isn't accepting Maestro at all... The problem is accepting Maestro on an auto-renewal system, as GR explained. Procedural changes as Mastercard to increase security make it no longer possible for them to use that card for recurring charges; hence they've had to remove it from the list of options in the account section.

They're kind of stuck really... They WANT to offer it to their users, but Mastercard won't let them due to security concerns. I won't be surprised if Visa follow suit, to be honest.

EDIT: Several options PlayNC should look at, if they're not already.

1. Manual renewal, taking the Maestro card. So players can renew their subs manually each month.
2. Sell game time card in their PlayNC store, email code directly to buyer. No wait, no fuss.
3. Direct debit option.
