Maestro Payment Options Removed?
[ QUOTE ]
Y'know, I understand the need to protect people from fraud, but I've always thought that reasoning a little suspect. I mean, if someone nicks your credit card, they're HARDLY going to log on to the PlayNC website, log on to an account who's name and password they don't know, and buy some stuff for a game they don't know how to play, or have access to, are they?
No, they're gonna be down Virgin Megastore buying PS3's and the like.

that actually happened to My sister in law, thought it was 3 months subs to WoW instead.

Any advice?

Have you bought anything through PlayNC recently (last day or two)? There's a maximum number of purchases that can be made in a specified time period as an anti-fraud measure. This is mostly to protect customers who have their cards stolen.
If the message is still coming up in a few days, please send a ticket to our billing support team via the Ask a Question tab in the PlayNC support Knowledge Base.

I was getting this problem yesterday as well. However, it was a little different in that we were trying to buy/set up three new accounts, for three different people, with three different debit cards (long story but I've convinced most of my family to come play COH ).
The first two accounts got set up fine and the third one just refused. Even though the third card hadn't been used. After a couple of attempts it eventually came up as suspected of fraud...
Does this anti fraud measure look to where users are signing up from? So would have noticed we were trying to buy accounts from the same IP range?

instead of selling the time cards themselves - why cant ncsoft sell just the codes?
That way - you don't have to wait for the card to be posted AND as an added advantage its a lot greener solution, no packaging at all.

Sinclair Software in Germany does exactly that. 27 Euro for 60 days of CoX last time I checked.

Don't know if this helps anyone but www.dlgamer.com also sells online game time cards.
From their FAQ

Are you currently on auto-renew billing? If so, your renewal will occur as scheduled.

Slightly confuzzled here (Probably because I just got up -_-').
My Maestro card's on file and my account's on auto-renew. Will it renew just fine, or am I just going to have to resort to PayPal when I hit the renewal date?

It depends on when your current subscription period will run out.
We *will* notify you via email before we remove the ability for auto-renew for current Maestro users, and we'll include as much information in that mail as we can. So basically, until you get that email your account will continue to auto-renew.
Oh oh, a Redname is necro-posting? What's the world coming to?!
*ahem*
So, here's an update for you all:
All Customers who use or used Maestro
It is important to note that for legal reasons we are only able to send the emails mentioned below to customers who are opted-in to receive email from us. Anyone who has chosen to opt-out will not receive an email. If you are a current Maestro subscriber I strongly encourage you to opt-in immediately (you can opt out again once you receive your email).
Customers whose accounts expired or were cancelled between July 1st and July 16th
There are currently emails being sent to Maestro users whose accounts expired (or were cancelled) between July 1st and July 16th (inclusive) this year. This email advises of the change in Maestro policy, and points out the current alternatives.
More importantly, this email also announces that by the end of August all customers who prefer to pay their subscription with their Maestro card (or for whom Maestro is the only option) will be able to pay for 60 days subscription as a non-recurring payment through PlayNC.
These customers are also receiving a code for 15 days free time that they can add to any NCsoft subscription title.
Customers who had an existing auto-renew Maestro subscription at the time the first changes were made
In the near future, a similar email will be sent to all customers who currently use Maestro for auto-renewing subscriptions. This email will notify these customers that their current auto-renewing subscription using Maestro will be discontinued automatically from the end of August, and includes a list of alternate payment methods and the new Maestro payment option.
These customers will also receive a code for 15 days free time, to allow plenty of time for each customer to arrange for alternate payment.

Ok, so, I don't mean to upset anyone, but seeing as it's an issue outwith NCSoft's control and it's not your fault, should you really be giving out free game-time at all? I applaud the giving of the free game time, it's a very welcome gesture but ever so slightly unfair to those people who are paying for the same time these people are getting for free.
Pardon me to be the doomsayer.

How is this unfair? A lot of just nearly lost the ability to play with barely any warning until the OP found out the hard way!

It's unfair because people are gettign given something Free that others are paying for through no fault of NCSoft.
Perhaps I should change my billing to maestro just to get some free game time?

Perhaps it's the extra inconvenience of having to re-sub every 60 days and not being able to only pay for only 1 month or even 3 or 6?
As I pay for 3 months at a time (usually) I expect my payments per month to go up slightly. The game time is a welcome bonus for me but for others, it may be just what keeps them subbed a little longer if they end up paying more than they used to.

Or, it could be an apology for the way the announcing (or rather not) of the problem was handled? No disrespect to GR, he did a good job finding out what was going on once the problem had come to light. But the fact that the first most people knew about it was when a player posted on the boards, and many people had no advance warning to make alternate arrangements, seems to me to make a little free game time a nice gesture.
However, it turned out that Smith was not a time-travelling Terminator
My account is paid for with a Visa card, I think - and I have no objection to Maestro card users getting free time.

Then the people that were inconvenienced at the time should get the free time. People that haven't even had any problems are getting free time due to their method of payment?

Since their new method of payment will likely cost more than their old one, I'd say it's fair.

^^ This.
People are just whinging because they see someone getting something they're not getting. People like this ALWAYS ignore things such as these people having to pay a little more for their sub now, as well as the inconvenience of having to remember to resub manually every 2 months.
Don't make me call the whaaaambulance!

Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Also due to the fact that after August is when the new Maestro non reccuring payment system comes in, meaning some people could have their accounts expire now and not be able to play till next month. Hence the 15 days to nudge them towards the end of the month. I'm sure it was easier to offer it that way, than to datamine who was going to expire this month and then issue an email with a code to them, and a seperate email to the ones who expire next month.
