I can see your body parts. Tee-hee.

I think use of nakedness comes down to how you use it. Two of my female characters are essentially naked - both using the 'metal' costume parts and non-human skin colours (light and dark blue on Tempest's Herald, dark green and black on Legion Wildfire) and I have been reliably informed, both manage to avoid gratuitousness. Both are designed to look non-human: Tempest towards being an 'elemental' and Legion Wildfire as a nanotech construction.

Of course the fact that the first thing I do with any of my female characters is take the Chest slide bar down the minimum probably helps. I'm female, I have an idea what is a 'realistic' breast size, and I don't see it often around CoH.

When have you ever seen a realistic male body around CoH?

It's not about realism.

That's interesting -- given that my wife has one specific breast size and one of my female friends has a diametrically opposite end of the scale breast size, I'd be curious as to how a single person, regardless of gender could know what a 'realistic' breast size is?

On the other hand, I have wide shoulders and my best friend's shoulders are much less broad - which one of us should claim to have the more realistic shoulders?

NB: Of course, if you scale up one item (in nature), then the rest of the items usually scale up with it. Usually.

Ok, I admit I was making a very sweeping statement, and I do take the point about this not exactly being a realistic game... also, I was not meaning to imply that I had sole judegement over what is realistic and what is not, I think that most people do probably have a decent handle on the sorts of body types that appear in real life. But I do think that women will probably have slightly better idea on realistic female body sizes and men of male, simply through personal experience and the fact of what you see in the mirror every morning.

I think it's more of the point that a) as a rule people don't scale the rest of the body to fit the EE breasts they've given their characters. Now being on the non-straight persuasion, I enjoy looking at gratuitous female super-heroes as much as the next fanboy, but there does come a point where the breasts are so mismatched to the body type that it's really not attractive any more.

b) Consider that even if you put the sliders on minimum you have a toon which would nonetheless be considered well-endowed if they were real... on maximum they would give someone serious back problems and are probably unlikley to happen *on the generally accompanying slender if not anorexic frame* without artificial aide.

Same situation with me and one of my friends I lived with for 4 years. I'm 5'8", he's 6', but I've got much wider shoulders than he does, by several inches.

Yep - it's a bit of a bugger to find shoes, isn't it?

The aforementioned friend is around the same height as me 5' 10" or thereabouts and has size 9/10's.

Everyone's different, but not everyone has crippling back pain - perhaps that's an inherent superpower that these EE's in game actually have

Ouch. Given that it normally takes me an age to find Size 13s (and of course, the store you went to last time, never has them in this time), I really pity that person.

I've got size 6 feet, which I know sounds tiny, but for my size - they're huge; and I'm definitely more clumsy on them (despite x years of ballet training) than Weasel is on his.

A friend of mine who's slightly shorter has size 7 feet, and another who's the same height more or less has size 4.

It's really, really hard to buy them fun novelty socks from Primark, who only seem to go up to size 10 for men.

Stupid lovely wonderful Primark.

Apparently I was stunned speechless at the time...

Edit : The actual phrase used by her originally was "You know what they say about men with big feet...."

Regardless of what we may think of someone who simply wants to look beautiful, to the exclusion of all else, surely it would be worse if we remove the freedom of choice from them?

[/ QUOTE ]

If someone was to do this, then there is something fundamentally wrong with it. Apologies here if you're shocked by that non-PC "we must tolerate all viewpoints" stance, but it's a fact and fairly well documented.

I could easily mention eating disorders, teenage girls and the advertising-fuelled beauty products industry here, but what it amounts to is that such a person would be leading a very shallow life and have little self esteem.

Frankly they'd need some serious counselling.

That's not to say that it's wrong to try to improve your appearance (darn Political Correctness creeping in again) but basing your whole life on how you look is not healthy. Ask any counsellor or psychiatrist.

Professional models would be an exception to this, but even then many models will strive to show that they're not quite as shallow as they're portrayed by the camera.

Looks fade, a person doesn't.
And I'm aware I'm agreeing with GG here...

[/ QUOTE ]

I assume here we're talking about all eating disorders, and not just those which end up decreasing the weight of someone? If so, I totally agree - if not, I think we need to be aware that a person eating to crush their emotions/low self esteem has just as much a problem as a person refusing to eat for the same reason - and then I agree.

However, I do find it annoying that some will see a very thin woman (same for men, but incredibly rare) and immediately assume she only eats salads or is anorexic/bulimic. Bodies come in all shapes and sizes, and most are carried off beautifully by the person inside - just because someone is rake thin, doesn't mean they're pandering to popular culture or have an eating disorder; likewise, someone who is large isn't necessarily a lazy bum who'll eat everything and anything put in front of them .

Also, as for the realism part - no body is realistic, as no two bodies are the same. There certainly will be very thin women with very large breasts (naturally) and very muscley men with scrawny legs.

I think I did though... I'll dig out some old screenies later. I know for a fact I've been using the tiger stripes with the Metallic armour for nearly a year... It's my main's main costume!

[/ QUOTE ]

I guess youre still missing my point. I wanted to have stripes on her SKIN and not on costume itself. To accomplish this I have the spandex of suitable color underneath the shirt (currently) and put the stripes on the spandex. This wasnt possible until I8 and the new shirts.

To make you better understand, heres a pic of her current 1st costume.
And another pic.

To have the stripes UNDERNEATH the costume wasnt really possible until now (at least on upper body). And still, you see her having the sneakers with socks up to her knees. It is still not possible to have a combination of, say, slip-ons and stripes, because there are no stripes available for lower part of legs. Have to use boots that cover her legs up to the knees.

ps. Also note, because she has real cat ears, I have to use correct type of hair that covers the 'human' ears that otherwise still appear even if you use cat ears.

[/ QUOTE ]

Is you difficulty because you specifically want shoes?
My Scapper; Ginger Tom has a very similar look, he just wears long shorts but has bare calves/feet and is stripey on his legs no problems.

This may have changed with the new costume rehashes (I've not been to Icon with him), and it might also be a peculiarity of femal costume parts.

I did it by having Flat and Bare Skin and Stripes selected on the boots section of the costume editor.

I can't put up a screen shot since I'm at work but I can do when I get home if you want to see.
