Two pages about each others shoes sizes is borderline kinky

Maybe to you - keep that sort of thing to yourself.

I don't know all my friends shoes sizes, but you all seem to have an intimate knowledge of the sizes of people you've met online - that's disturbing

I don't know the sizes of anyone I've met online. I know my size (obviously), I know Days size (because we were friends a long time before we played COH). Interestingly enough, I now know Weasel and Max's size - but so do you because you read it at the same time as I did.

Or did you not read it, because all of the above would be pretty clear if you had?

In an attempt to get this thread back on topic... My Miss Ellie is often accused of wearing "next to nothing", yet she is ALWAYS covered. OK, so she likes to wear mini-skirts; but she doesn't run around wearing next to nothing.

Well... Technically, that's not true.. When she's in her armoured form then technically she's not wearing any clothes as such, instead her body is covered in a flexible but almost adamantium hard armoured fur which covers more then her normal clothes do!

Not that she's seen in that outfit much anymore, seeing as for various reasons, she no longer uses her old hero ID and has taken on a new secret identity as KittyHawk.

I think for me it really comes down to 'is it believable/understandable/make sense' to be in a particular costume.

Consider Ashtoreth. Half demon fire/fire tank. Now she is only half demon, and does understand clothing and its purposes, but isn't exactly shy - she knows what she looks like, and is a member of the 'if you've got it, flaunt it' school of dress...

Her costume started out as a pretty minimal bikini for financial reasons...shes a fire/fire, pretty much most of the time she spends on missions she's surrounded in flames. This doesnt go well with normal clothing. And a steel bikini is DEFINATELy a no-no (you think she likes pain?)
So whe went with dragon skin, which is fireproof. And costs an arm and a leg, hence the rather small outfit.
Once she found out about where they keep sending you on missions she added boots straight away (sewers, YUCK, you think she wants to put her bare feet in that muck!?).

But she'd never go around naked, because she considers clothes (well, the right sort of clothes ) to be way more sexy, if thats her aim at the time.

(What she wants are some good attractive female outfits. And accessories. Chocolate would be good too....)

See though. You're doing it for story reasons (and I'd assume that you've got a bio explaining at least some of this (since you don't want to give it all away)).

In that way, you can justify it. At least better than the whole "My toon is nekkid!!!! Wooot!" attitude that may crop up.

Though effectively she isn't, as the armoured fur covers her in much the same way a bodysuit does, and is WAY tougher!

And the costume itself is the metallic armour, in silver, with gold tiger stripes. So she doesn't LOOK naked!

One of my characters: Snaedis, goes down the Mystique route of a state of undress. One of her costumes consists of the Metal top and bottoms (the one which covers little and looks nothing like metal) and full covering boots and gloves - but her skin is light blue. It's her natural skin, enhanced slightly by her powers (also, as an Ice Blaster, joke there), but as it's blue she seems to be less naked than she would be should her skin be a normal human colour.

All of her costumes, except that one, have backstories - I just thought the metal outfit looked nice, regardless of it being fully covering or skimpy.

My rule of thumb: If a costume looks good, it's a good costume - whether it's a mini skirt and bikini top, or all over body armour; and it doesn't necessarily need a backstory.

I've always avoided that one, simply because it keeps screaming "Witchblade!" at me - even more so than claws emulates Wolverine, that skin type seems to say Sara Pezzini and nothing else.

As per usual though, your actual mileage may vary.

Yes, it's definitely one of the most generic superhero costume options - the same way the corset (Leather) top and bikini bottoms are very Hellfire Club.

Yep - I'll admit to being guilty of that - corset and fishnets. Given that this character who has these is the grand-daughter of a golden age hero, I kind of thought it was appropriate. Her later costumes are much more modern (and slightly warmer).

Heck, I tried the fishnets on my ice controller (who has a body temperature of about -30 degrees), but the Father Time missions, made me feel cold, so I went and put some clothes on her

I must admit, one of Seductress' early costumes was a white leather corset, white cape, white bikini bottoms and thigh high boots. But then it was a little too Emma Frost and I changed it.

My intention with such "inspired-by" costumes is an homage, not a straight copy. EULA aside, its just downright boring to copy.

Sometimes tho, you can put together a costume and unwittingly end up looking like a superhero/villain. One of my characters (a DM/SR Super Speedster) was the spitting image of Quicksilver and when someone pointed it out, I was like "D'oh!".

As to the metal cozzie... I know exactly what you mean. Now I like Witchblade (even if some of the early writing is just awful) and have thought about doing an homage there, however, there's no way you can put together such a character without it looking like a rip-off, so I've steered clear.

Oh, I'm a big one for paying homage to well known characters. One of Snaedis' earlier costumes was inspired by Snowbird of Alpha Flight, and my favourite costume on Stasis takes a lot of inspiration from 616 Rogue.

I also have a villain who could not look more like Erik (Phantom) if he wore the faceplate.

Though my favourite and arguably best costume I've ever created (Flittermaus') is all mine. Sometimes my own creativity can be just as awesome as other peoples' .

For me, taking costume ideas off some well-known or less known comic characters is nice, not something to be punished. You can still come up with good-looking and original characters as long as the goal is not to make a carbon-copy without an original thought.

Sometimes people surprise me though. My empath was accused of being Green lantern, which surprised me, because I hadnt thought of lantern at all when making him. Even looking more carefully he doesnt resemble lantern in other ways than having similarly shaped mask and wearing spandex overalls. Not much green either.

I let others judge,
here he is. (in the center)

Back in my US days, I had a character called Obsidian Operative, who was based on Kyle Rayner...

Thankfully, my EULA embracing, guilt circuits kicked in and I deleted him.

Your character, Hammerfall, may have similarities, but I wouldn't say it's GL. Nice choice on the green and gold too.

Does he work for Harrods?

Weasel has Speedos, Civvies, Djinn Costume (Halloween) and his White/Black Stealth suit; still got one slot free; so any suggestions

Mongrel actually has Furry Speedos; as he's copying Weasel.

[/ QUOTE ]Something similar happened with my Sonic/Sonic Defender, Mhz. I'd put together this very silver age costume and thought it looked great, until I switched to SG colours (black/red) and suddenly I was like "Uh-oh, I now look like Jon Stewart".
