Fair play?
Could really write loads but all i can think of, and in the most polite way of saying it, from what you are saying the people you fought were idiots.
My advice would be to ignore em completly (well what they say at least) and carry on the good work .
That's just the thing, I'm certain they weren't idiots and the way I'd played must have really grated badly on them for them to worry about it over broadcast - I don't really want to spend my entire PvP career worrying about whether what I'm doing is fair or not!
Cheers for the confidence though

No?
Then it's fine. They're only whinging because they can't beat you.
What he basicly said was your lame cause you didnt just stand still with your toggles of and wait until you returned to the hospital. Some people just dont like loosing so they make up another rule set. Basicly the same tactic kids use.

If they are in warburg, a free for all PvP zone, if they don't want to fight other people, you can:
a) fight on the buildings, which, as you might think correctly, has it's own privacy of PvP matches and respec - if you are watching a fight, you will be either invisible or flying up, turning to the way in which the fight is running. If you are fighting, it is on a high place for a reason and one might infer that it is a private match.
b) watch it from the 'safe zone', as you can't be attacked from it.
This is one of the reason I seldom go to PvP zones - people might misunderstand you, you might misunderstand them, and it can cause some unpleasent situations.
P.S. You did nothing wrong - they are just idiots. *heh* held by a mob behind the corner... the second way of saying 'I wasn't ready for attacks while in a PvP zone'.

I don't know about anyone else, but I love fighting spectators - not because it provides a fun PvP experience, or any sort of challenge, but for the wonderful flow of messages over /b and /tells both during and afterwards.
spectator > "im not here 2 fite!!11!1"
> spectator "But you *have* to fight on your first night."
spectator > "OMG STOP ATAKIN ME U [censored]"
spectator /l "WILL SUMONE KILL KURO HES ATAKIN ME AN IM TRYIN 2 WATCH FIGHT"

After reviewing all my PvP experiences, I have come to the conclusion that some people really dislike being killed by other people - for some reason, the same people seem to enjoy spending time in PvP zones. (I don't pretend to understand.) The only unwritten rule of the PvP zones is Kill And Be Killed - no more, no less. There's nothing wrong with what you're doing; if they can't figure out a way to stop you, that's their problem - not yours.
Keep on truckin', Mr Wuffles.

The mental image I have of most people who trash talk or complain over broadcast is something like the crazy, lunatic German kid so I don't get concerned that I'm doing something wrong, the opposite in fact.
Debt. For me PvP = debt. Anyone who complains about getting debt over broadcast is a muppet. Most of my debt has come from Siren's. If someone complains about debt like this gets put on my 'mental ignore list' because they're talking nonsense.
If anything the only people who are playing 'wrongly' are those harrassing you over broadcast some of which you could petition them for if they're personal attacks.
Anyone who goes into a PvP zone and then expects to fight duels and be 'left alone' is actually abusing the zone.
Just a note on the spectator thing, if people really want to watch fights and not be attacked they can always get the temporary Phase Shift power which takes one patrol.

If you killed him yourself he wouldn't of got any debt and had nothing to moan about. The spectator? his own fault, you did nothing wrong.
I was fighting a MM and a Brute the other day 2v1, I was trying hit and run TP tactics, as I couldn't beat them both together. MM was hitting me with HT and fears then the brute would come whack me, so before they killed me i'd TP off, simple tactics. Then the /tells started from the MM saying I was a coward etc... then on talking with the brute a little asking for a straight up fight, they said no they'd beat me so there was no point, so I said no insps no running away, they replied no as I was /regen and overpowered. So that was o.k. I didn't mind, so then I say, if you two guys had mixed up your tactics you would have beaten me, I couldn't get past the HT and /regen has a big weakness to Fear, at this point the brute goes nuts and calls me a whiner and im saying /regen is gimp and all this other lame s**t.
My point, PvP zones have their fair share of morons, don't listen to them, just KILL THEM!

The trouble is, perfectly good players can still be closeminded and narrow-sighted. Someone who is normally pretty friendly can make a complete jerk out of themselves if they dont look at a situation honestly. From their point of view, something happened that frustrated them, and they immediatedly did the knee-jerk broadcast response thing. Thats fair enough. Then after a bunch of people get frustrated (by no real fault of yours), people just look at the number of frustrated broadcasts aimed at you and automatically assume you're either an a-hole, or a stat-hugging ganker.
Unfortunately, 'nice people' who get ratty and personal with people without actually trying to hear them out or put themselves into your shoes, deserve everything they get. Eat humble pie if you make a mistake to a respectable player, quietly revel in their annoyance if they're acting like jerks.
Fair play is great to have, but to be honest it seems like they were the ones being unfair. I dont mind it if there is a complete moron beating down on me, thats fairly easy to shrug off, but if there is someone acting like a complete jerk AND getting all holier-than-thou about it over broadcast at me, and actually believing what they say... THAT pushes my buttons.
Moral of the story? There isnt one. Some people are just blinkered and cant see beyond their own annoyance and need for justice (see also : petty revenge).

"hit hard and fast"
granted, this may be the floor, but I'll still have a go at anything that moves. Warburg has given me a few interesting encounters of villians taking advantage of two evenly matched blasters fighting each other for no real reason, then teaming up only to have an angsty scrapper / stalker / brute think they can solo us all, convientely when we're halfway through ripping each other to shreds. It's fun, since you're not sure the orange names are working with each other or not. Roll on RV so I have less dancing round the bush and more burning it >=)
Wilfy 2 words: Pwn Spectators IS FUN!!!
You did nothing wrong and keep enjoying
Also what Xanthus said and the mighty wise Empath quoted i see it and double quoted so :QFT to what Xanthus said
My view of this is that deliberately taking out spectators when they are trying to watch a fight is a very bad thing and the people who find this amusing do have something wrong with them. Really, they are the sort of people I would avoid teaming with as it shows they have no consideration for others.
That said, It is not always clear people are spectating and you have to accept there is a risk involved. If someone kills me while spectating, I just inform them I'm watching a fight and ask them to leave me. Only if they then come back and kill me again does it annoy me.
As for complaining about mobs, inflicting debt? If you don't want debt, don't go into a PvP zone. Whenever I go into a PvP zone for a prolonged period of time, I accept I will be trying to grab an exemp afterwards. Again, those who deliberately inflict debt are idiots but it will happen.
One exchange that amused me in Sirens the other day was aimed at a stalker on my team
Hero Tank "Stop using AS. It's not fair"
Me "OK, agree with you on that one. Can you turn all your toggles off though as that's not fair either and ask your controller to stop using holds?"
Very little response to that

One problem is that people define different things as exploits..
Hi all. Please bear with me, I've been trying to think of the exact words to express myself in this post for a wee while now.
I'm new to PvP zones. I've played in Siren's during large events, and in teams occasionally. My characters on CoH who are of appropriate level are not great as they aren't built for PvP, two defenders and a tank, and all need a team to operate efficiently.
Recently, my brute Mr Wuffles matured and I decided to try out Warburg.
I've been in three times now for a short while each time (got Web Master just before writing this post), and my reputation stands at 74.3. I'm EM/EA, and find I cannot stand toe-to-toe with other brutes or scrappers.
What I do, is zip around with energy cloak on and superspeed up. It gives me a small amount of stealth, and when I see people I speed towards them using 'F', hit build up then Energy Transfer, then land a Total focus and hit other attacks in the order they recharge until the foe is dead or runs away, or I nearly am and either die or run away. I find this is the only way I can play.
However, today in Warburg I've found out that apparently my way of playing is 'lame', and in fact that I am a 'lameass'. This from someone who apparently has all the badges and a rep of 400, so clearly *must* know what they're talking about, by the name of [removed]. I'm not naming and shaming, because there's nothing to shame.
When I saw this player standing about earlier, I ran up, belted them with ET and TF, then when I saw there was no response, left without killing them.
Later I saw this same player, moving this time, and lined up buildup and ET, both of these landed, and the person fell over. What was later intimated to me, over broadcast, was that they were being held and I had just caused them debt.
Now, I apologised for this, if I'd stood about to check what was happening I'd have been ripe for an AS (so many people are teamed with stalkers ready to pounce when I engage that I tend to be wary), and as the tarantula who'd been attacking was around the corner, there was no way I could have known that they were being attacked.
After apologising, I went off looking again, spotted a blaster moving around on the beach near the hero ship. Same business, BU + ET + TF + bone smasher, dropped him and hoofed it.
Then THAT fellow pointed out he'd been watching a fight, which I couldn't see, over broadcast. At which point the chap from the first instance, started calling me unskilled.
I don't mind that, as I agree I'm not exactly fast with my fingers. But 'lame', wasn't particularly nice, considering it's pretty much the only way I play. It's not as if I picked on either of these people, as a minute or two before I'd 'picked on' a regen scrapper who had been seeing off all comers, by himself on the beach.
Apparently I'm a 'lameass chicken' for using the powers that come with my powersets in a fashion that keeps me alive and gives me a good crack at foes.
The fun bit was, afer this every time I was spotted an entire teamful of heroes would descend and hound me until I lost them or retreated into base - a big shift compared to what had gone before this broadcast tirade.
Now what I'm posting for, is to ask whether this viewpoint is shared among the community? It's put me off PvP zones a little to find out that playing in the only way that gives me any chance of success is frowned upon - I do not go looking for AFK people, or squishies, or people that are held - If I see someone and I'm in a state to attack I do it.
I don't want people to pick sides (because this person clearly knows a lot of people anyway), I just want to know whether I should continue as I am, or leave the PvP zones alone entirely. If I can't fight in the way I have been, there's no way I can be effective in combat.
Edit: Last bit came out a bit toy/pram ish... didn't mean it to! Also fixed early paragraph, Wuffles is a brute, not a def
