and yesterday, having never seen the excuse before, I twice saw "You can only kill me when I'm running a long animation!"

*grins*

I was in the zone when you said that (having myself a little pre-arena warm-up) - the only thought that was running through my head was, "Why did you choose a long animation attack when there are 3+ Stalkers bouncing around you, you muppet?" Had the player in question been playing a build that was full of long-animation attacks, I might have had a little sympathy... but he wasn't, he's a known whiner, and so I didn't.

PVP hint number XXXX:
Dont expect Hero characters to be heroic and nice, and dont expect villain chars to be evil and villainous.
This is not a role-play game, and there is nothing to force people to act such.

That's debatable - several of the people I know do things when playing Villians that they'd never dream of doing as a Hero

However, today in Warburg I've found out that apparently my way of playing is 'lame', and in fact that I am a 'lameass'. This from someone who apparently has all the badges and a rep of 400, so clearly *must* know what they're talking about, by the name of [removed]. I'm not naming and shaming, because there's nothing to shame.

[/ QUOTE ]
I'm afraid you are. If you're making any statement about another player's behaviour in the game that might be construed as casting them in a negative light (such as accusing them of calling you unpleasant names), please don't name them.

As far as the rest of your post is concerned, I think that enough other people have given their opinions to reassure you that you were just unlucky to encounter the attitudes you did.

To restate - PvP zones are just that, PvP zones. If you don't want to run the risk of being beaten by another player (or having another player's actions leading to you being defeated by critters in the zone), don't go there.

If you are in a PvP zone, you are a valid target for anyone who spots you and fancies their chances.

If you want to duel without the risk of being interrupted - or to watch such duels in safety - use the Arena.

Finally, as long as your tactics don't involve exploiting bugs or other flaws in the game in order to gain an unfair advantage over other players, you are free to use your powers pretty much as you like (and from your post, your tactics are perfectly valid).

Some players may dislike your tactics, or be upset at being defeated by them. That's fine. If, however, they respond with abusive language or otherwise violate the EULA, please /petition them immediately. Please do not respond in kind.

Hope that covers everything.

I shout lame very fast cause of my somewhat short tempered behaviour..but its also a bit the way ''villains'' play imo...80% of the time I see this...

AS-run
TF (total focus)- run
KO blow- run

learn to chain instead of using nuke attacks about 90% of the time and then standing still to see if you opponent is held/stunned..

Don't get me wrong I like brutes the most cause its still the char that stays long in battle most of the time:P...

Heh EGen, from my pretty limited playtime in PvP it seems to me that whoever can control the flow of battle best to suit their powersets comes out on top - I know my armour's weak and there's no way I can stand one on one with any other brute or scrapper... Hit and run is the only option open to me.

Example - Regen scrappers are great at prolonged battle but if you can do enough damage in a short space of time they're toast. They WANT me to stand about, so they can heal up while they whittle me down - it's a game I can't win, so I don't play it their way!

Edit: besides which, standing in the open exchanging fisticuffs is asking for an AS in the back!

DON'T eat muffins while I'm developing you.

Pants! Turkey Magnates! A man in a box! Rogue AI! Come one, come all, to arc ID 10107 - It's [i]'Not as long as some other arcs'[/i]!

I don't really kill things in PvP any more. Now I hit the Disruptor badge I've moved on to new sport. Mostly I find tankers and have fun bouncing around brawling their toggles off.

A big scary ice tanker stomped up to the Villain base yesterday. I got very lucky with my first two brawls and then it was only a question of if I could get out of the way of the feeding frenzy of incoming villains or be trampled under foot.

You don't have any toggles, do you, Sis... *cough*

You have Claws, I have Claws. Jackal knows that Claws are far too uber *coughhackingsplutter* to even bother trying to defend herself against.

PvP don't mean to be stupid.
ifyou say clearly that you duel. comming in theduel is not PvP. it's being annoying or stupd or whatever;

[/ QUOTE ]

Yet its perfectly OK to call people names for playing the game the way its meant to be played. Look, it doesnt matter if your duelling, helping out with meteors, dancing, doing missions, picking your nose or admiring the scenery. Its an open pvp zone, if you want to duel go to the arena.

[/ QUOTE ]

Reminder.. behaving maliciously is not accepted in pvp zones or anywhere else, be careful with your "calling names"..

To Ken-Titus:

Point is that interrupting a duel is NOT considered 'behaving maliciously', griefing or anything. The PvP zones ARE open PVP zones like marquandDance said. The devs have made this clear numerous times.

I always try to urge people not to duel or 'expect manners' from people in PVP zones while myself I wont interrupt duels if I know there is one going on. Simply because I dont want to [censored] off people.. I will however attack people travelling to missions, patrolling or killing pve mobs because Im expected to. The threat of getting attacked by player is the justification for better rewards in pvp zones after all. Theres no logical reason to leave player enemies alone in the zones..

I guess what Im trying to say is.. even if I may help people in pvp zones or leave duelers alone or whatever, don't expect or demand that others do the same..

I do get annoyed everytime someone claims something like "Dont attack me, I'm/we are just doing *insert_random_activity_here*".

[/ QUOTE ]

Manners, honour and respect.

That's what's lacking too much in the PvP zones. No matter which way you look at it, using the official arguments provided and ackownledged by the devs that stating as long as you don't use exploits or cheats everything is allowed, seems to be reason enough for many ppl to forget these aspects.

In some way i don't blame them, they play by the construct of the game, but in another way i really do. A true warrior would live by the rules of honour and respect in and outside battle. A samourai would commit seppuku from shame when he'd act like many people in the zones do. To stick with the picture: they are like shameless ninja's: no honour. -for the record i'm not just talking stalkers here, although they fit the picture best being stealthy assasins.
The official rules are indeed that anyone may kill any other anytime as long as he is not using exploits or cheats. I know many people think this way and exactly this mentality is what i have problems with.

Take this said stalker Ken-Titus for example. He was so kind to help some heroes with the meteor mish and when he sat down with them after being done, the same folks he just helped killed him!!? This is truly really bad form imo!!! I just can't believe people here condone this kind of behaviour and think it's justified as it's a pvp zone and anything goes.

You can say that the above may not be a typical every minute action and some maybe even will frown upon this, but it absolutely reflects the intrinsical general attitude very much.
I don't like to whine, but also i don't like to be frustrated by all these many folks with bad attitudes either, hence i avoid the PvP zones like the plague. I still go to arena sometimes for some good old pawning and fun, but mostly for test purposes. And on very, very rare occasions I venture into sirens or warburg, but most of times only to be dissappointed again by lack of respect, honour and good manners. All in all it's absolutely not worth it for me.
When the massive shift towards PvP after CoV came in play, i massively shifted away from it after the initial big fun me and old friends had in Warburg. (Sigh, the good old times ) Bad mentality prolly being the most important reason for this.

I know it's the way many ppl choose play it nowadays and justify it by saying they will because they can, so i choose just to not play along with them and therefore unfortunately have to discard the pvp zones. It's a shame really, because i absolutely love to PvP, but with the way it is now i just can't enjoy the zones really.

I'm not trying to blame anyone in particular- i'm past that. When playing by the rules is ofcourse perfectly fine, it's just the lack of respect, honour and good manners that really bothers me.
All the ganking, backstabbing, whining, childish acts, lame excuses, ranting and stupid remarks over broadcast/local, etc really puts me off.

I believe it's unreal to think this will ever change to a really sophisticated lvl, because it's a MMO and so many different types of anonymous ppl hiding behind their computers feeling untouchable and saying "Get over it you n00b, it's only a game. I pay for it so i can do anything i want and you can't do anything about it as long as i play by the rules!"
Bah! The line is thin...

But i really do hope that morals will rise to such a lvl (as some of you might have deduced already i have pretty high standards P) so that more ppl will be able to really enjoy how great PvP can be and being able/allowed to ingnore the in fact inevitable peripheral bogus stuff and focus on what it's about: Honourable fighting.

Lastly one more quote to illustrate my point:

[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Then THAT fellow pointed out he'd been watching a fight, which I couldn't see, over broadcast.

[/ QUOTE ]
I don't know about anyone else, but I love fighting spectators - not because it provides a fun PvP experience, or any sort of challenge, but for the wonderful flow of messages over /b and /tells both during and afterwards.

spectator > "im not here 2 fite!!11!1"
> spectator "But you *have* to fight on your first night."
spectator > "OMG STOP ATAKIN ME U [censored]"
spectator /l "WILL SUMONE KILL KURO HES ATAKIN ME AN IM TRYIN 2 WATCH FIGHT"
You killed spectator
spectator /b "OMG YOUR SUCH A NEWB ***** U SUK"
