  1. About your P.S... That seems rather weak, but i doubt its caused just by your current lack of defense. Use your creativity to find your way...

  2. Interesting indeed! (wish us europeans got a lvl bump on test)
  3. Two things to think about indeed, but most of times fury will be lower then 90% taking into consideration moving from mob to mob and fury decreasing (as an aside fury decay is too fast, they should move it a bit more towards the speed domi builds up imo). Apart from same base dam, Elec doesn't do crits with LR like most scrapper tier 9 powers, which makes Elec even a better choice for brutes me thinks.
Or you could try convince me otherwise
  4. Right. The difference in build up and AAO is not that big though. Elec/SD brute then
  5. I've been pondering on some new toons lately and thought of finally making an /SD brute or scrap.
When meddling in Mids I noticed that the stats for Shield charge are the same for both scrapper and brute. Normally the dam of powers on brutes is lower then on scrappers, which makes sense, because brutes get fury. But because Shield Charge is exactly the same, this means that brutes get a lot more mileage out of this power. Or are these numbers in Mids incorrect?
And according to the recent St0n3y's I16 update the exact same also applies for Lightning Rod, or might this be a flaw? I'd prefer making an Elec/SD scrap, but looking at these numbers an Elec/SD brute seem far more powerfull then the equivalent scrap...

    Thoughts?
  6. I didn't really like Combustion because of the long animation and rather slow DoT dam, but I took it on my old plant/fire dom, because I had the room for it (and slot it properly) and all in all it provides decent AoE dam.
Atm I am running a earth/fire dom and I took it again, although after the I15 changes the power got worse. Still, it synergizes particularly well with earths heavy AoE control and therefore not a bad pick. Never swap it out for Firebreath though. Firebreath is just brutal (tip: slot some range in it).

Non Controllers keep trying to nerf Controllers because of this combo and it's damage potential.
The number of people flocking to the combo means that there are loads of Contollers at the high end often multi box farming - this distorts the Controller population and then appears to back up the perception that Controllers are over powered because everyone is playing them.

Oh and did I mention the type of person that it attracts..........?
    /em agree.

And back on topic: yes earth is that AWESOME. Have played both earth/storm and earth/TA with immense joy and feeling of awesomeness and atm got a earth/fire domi running in early 40's that makes me do the happy dance too!

The logic escapes me here. You started of with the dam debuff in PGA and now it has turned into a def debuff? Am I missing something here?
However, in my book TA has a big def debuff in OSA and a good def debuff with Acid Arrow. And as for other debuffs concerned there is some nice res debuffs from Acid arrow again and Disruption Arrow. TA is all about debuff, they are not all neatly packed in 1 or 2 powers, but mixed up they provide some valuable numers imo.
We'll have to see how it goes live, but I certainly hope that /TA for corrs won't come out gimped, and apparently as it stands now it needs some tweaking to make it a good cor set.
  9. I think you should be even more happy with the slow res in Temp Prot then the cold res it gives you.
As far as stamina goes I think you would better of taking Stamina and either Cons or DC. That way you have a more reliable and steady end recov.
The combo is interesting for it's utility and versatility and I really like the feel of playing it, hope you will enjoy it too!
  10. Fiery Embrace at lvl 44?? Seriously, that can't be right...

Very odd... I have both a fire/storm and earth/storm and this never ever happened to me, nor have I seen it happen with anyone else. Maybe you were on acid?

    DM/FA Brute

I got a DM/FA in mid 40's atm and I am absolutely loving it!
But if you want AoE damage machine DM/ is not your best choice. Soul Drain and Dark Consumption are on a pretty long timer. Better picks are elec/ or SS/ (for the marvellous footstomp).
Had a quick glance at your build though and a couple of things I noticed:

-smite is unslotted. If you want good dam output, you better fully slot it.
-hasten is very nice to get healing flames up quicker (and your attacks also ofc). Personally I'd swap flight pool for superspeed for this, although like the previous poster has aid AS is a nice attack and I had it before my last respec.
-Tough is very valuable imo, you could try getting that in earlier.
-Plasma shield at 38?? :S This is your hold+sleep protection and provides some decent nrg res, you should take it at lvl 16 asap. I refuse to believe you played without it so far till your mid 30's. Must be a mistake in your build I suppose...
    - I found I don't need both DC and Cons after IO sets. DC has better net end regain per mob and more dam, but Cons has double the radius of DC. Whatever suits your style better. Or keep both if you like ofcourse.
-And as far as epics go: electric fences being an AoE is a lot easier to handle then tentacles being a cone. Electric fences imo is the best tool to keep mobs in your burn patch.
-last, but not least: I'm not gonna nitpick all your slotting, but I'd like to advice you to put 2 accu in DC/Cons and SD before you start slotting IO (sets). They are on a relatively long timer and you don't want to miss mobs with these gorgeous power.

    Have fun!

    Dark Servant Pet

Fluffy randomly attacks foes within range, just like your controller pets do, and is probably my favorite pet in the game for the versatility and superb debuffing it can do.
  16. How good? Very good I dare say!.
I took electrifying fences on my DM/fire and it works like a charm with burn, and being a proper AoE it is much more useful then the tentacles cone imo. MG to stack some extra magnitude when needed and you can start cooking like a real chef! Although when I quickly look at your build and considering the fact you took weave, I am guessing you want to stick to soul mastery for more -tohit.
But regardless which patron pool you pick; if you wait till lvl 49 to get burn, you are absolutely missing a whole lot of awesomeness for a whole lot of levels.
  17. You won't have a life without stamina. And hasten is crucial imo. Nor would I go without less then 3x rech in powersink. And I wonder why you bother taking mu pet when you only put 1 rech in it?

    14 50's

So what have I learned and what impressions have I gleaned?
    • I love CoH/V's basic gameplay and tactics in combat more than any other MMORPG.
    • I prefer redside in every way possible (all I really miss from CoH are Blasters and Warshades).
    • I like playing offence (damage, debuffs & control) more than support (tanking, heals & buffs).
    • I adore Warshades, Bane Spiders & Night Widows - so pretty and strong!
    • I like Brutes a lot, but Masterminds don't suit me.
    • I definitely need to level more Blasters (have several low level) and most will Go Rogue.
    • Super Jump is my favourite travel power.
    • I don't like playing melee characters without CJ+Hurdle.
    • Archery is my favourite powerset of all and Rain of Arrows is my favourite power.
    • Rad Emission is my favourite buff/debuff set, with Dark Miasma close behind, but Kinetics doesn't suit me.
    • Earth Control is my favourite control set, but Illusion and Plant Control are winning me over too.
    • I want to play Gravity Control, if only for Propel, but just can't stick with that set past L15ish.
    • I'd need a very persuasive thematic excuse to not play /Willpower on future Brutes/Scrappers.
    • I'd need a very persuasive thematic excuse to not play /Ninjitsu on future Stalkers.
    • I'd need a very persuasive thematic excuse to not play /Energy on future Blasters.
    • I would definitely play Mace, Axe and Claws again, but not Energy Melee.
    • Earth Control and Storm Summoning make me feel more like a superhero/supervillain than any other sets.
    • Earth/Fire redeemed Doms for me after struggling with my Mind/Psi.
    • Elec/Nin redeemed Stalkers for me after struggling with my EM/EA.
    • I want to get a Defender, Tanker, Controller and Peacebringer to L50 for a full set of all 14 ATs (working on Controller atm).
    • I despise click-based mez protection (prefer toggles).
    • As AVs go I prefer Nemesis and Requiem over Lord Recluse and Tyrant, and I wish Mako and Ghost Widow jointly led Arachnos.
    • Statesman is a git; I would rather see Manticore, Positron, or preferably Back Alley Brawler leading the Freedom Phalanx.
    • I hate boring Longbow!
    • Viridian gives out my favourite arc in the game.
    • Seer Marino tells my favourite story in the game.
    • Vernon von Grun is my favourite contact in the game.
    • Being able to cooperate and knowing how to play your character makes you a better player than your powersets/build.
    • I still don't like PvP in MMORPGs and feel it works far better in FPS games (like Planetside).
    • I like Inventions a lot more than I thought I would, but I don't like MA/AE as much as I thought I would.
    • I am an ebil marketeer, but wish I didn't feel the need/temptation to be one.
    • I don't understand how players can be inf-poor in this game, or why they pay silly prices for things then moan about it.
    • I don't see the point of TOs/DOs/SOs anymore and haven't used them since I12.
    • I15 disappointed me, but I16 makes up for it by giving me Claw/ Brutes and Archery/TA Corruptors.
    • Base building is fun, but it still takes too long and the base system needs expanding and improving.
    • I'm getting very bored of the existing content, but still enjoy playing the game.
    • I wish we had new Dev-created mission content in every issue, like in the old days.
    • I wish the Devs would revamp all pre-I3 CoH missions/contacts and add new mission content to all hazard zones.
    • This game has the most friendly community and civil forums of any MMO I've ever played.
    • We have by far the most responsive and innovative Dev team of any of the major AAA MMOs.
    • We get more free content than most AAA MMOs.
    • Post-I16 the only powerset proliferation I'll want is Spines for Brutes, Traps for Controllers and Ice/Ice for Stalkers.
    • I wish I hadn't unsubscribed during my year-long hiatus, especially when my duo partner reminds me how far ahead he is on veteran badges.
    • I still haven't deleted my L17 BS/Regen Scrapper, Count Valkryst, the first character I ever made in CoH in I5 (on Union) even though I'm unlikely to play him again and have remade him as DB/WP (on Defiant).
    • I will probably be here until they turn the servers off, even if/when SW:TOR lures me away for a lot of my MMO-playing time.
    Nice list & interesting read.

    Fire/Dark

I recently leveled a Fire/Rad and, while Ido like him, he isn't exactly what I was looking for. I really debated between Fire/Rad and Fire/Dark at the start. Initially my goal was to solo AVs but I have since shifted a bit towards being a more well rounded PVE player. Typically I enjoy herding groups of minions while hovering then hittin them with Rain>Fire Ball>Fire Breath.

It's looking like /Dark wll be a bit better at this, restricting the movement of the mobs and, well, for all the reasons already stated.

    Anyway, so to the point.

Darks tier 9 is Fluffy. Now I have a 50 MM and Fluffy is very desireable for him. Stacking holds and -To Hit etc. BUT the playstyle is very different. I'm wondering how much trouble Fluffy will cause me if my Modus is to use Shadow Fall to sneak close from the air the start herding groups up and corraling them around a corner to get the most mobs in one spot underneath me while I fire off all the AoEs. It seems likely Fluffy will start the fight without me and start immobilizing critters before I get them to their destination.

Anyone have any experience with this?
    1. Be fast. Faster then fluffy, who is quite a slow wanderer anyway. SS works best for this (also, the stealth part stacks nicely to invis together with shadowfall). Run ahead, *assess* the room quickly and return with your DN activated, so the herd arrives at you when fluffy finally arrives at your feet. Alternatively, to buy yourself some more time, run one or maybe two corridors back and wait for fluffy to catch up and then run forwards to the area with mobs again to start your herd. Ofcourse this works better solo then when in team.
    2. Dismiss fluffy and resummon in right place when your herd arrives.
    3. Use recall friend and tp fluffy to the place you want him, if he's not.

It takes a bit of practise, but then you'll find it works out fine most of the times. Still, occasionally he immobs the baddies prematurely disturbing your herd idea, ending up wasting your carefully laid down tarpatch and selected position while he gets hammered (depending on size and type mobs), but that's life ;-D

I'm at level 6 now, but I imagine once I hit lvl 12 or so I'll wander over to AE and start advertising myself as a healer and I'll be 50 in a few days haha.
Powerboosted fearsome stare should really rock
But you'd be mad to go without DN. And if -by your own comparison- you didn't use RI/EF a lot on your /rad cor, you seriously handicapped yourself and your teams I'm afraid... (And yeah I know about your anchors often being killed, but pick the target for the toggles smart and maybe make a bind to notify the team and you will find they are absolutely very usefull. Also makes good for pulling bundles in your tarpatch)

P.S dark/rad is absolute awesome too!
