How is Fire/Dark together? Read the guides but I want to know what the player base has to say

Damage, damage and more damage. Great combo.

my fire dark is one of my best characters that I ever made. It's great damage as fire works and the DArk does wonders in keeping her alive. Tar Pit is a great spell to mix with rain of fire, more damage and they can't leave the damage area easily. It's a very fun combo to play.

Automagic Winvincibility. 'Nuff said.

It's one of the most popular PvE combos for a reason.

I had a great time leveling my fire/dark to 50. Two thumbs up!

I absolutely LOVE my fire/dark

I setup my Dark Servant to heal and immobilize while I run around burning the hell out of all the baddies.

Fearsome Stare - Tar Patch - Firebreath - Fireball - Rain of Fire is just unfair on top of that you get a stealth power to position yourself before unleashing the nightmare of devastation. Oh and you get 3 debuffs good vs Av's. But wait, you also get a hold that can keep sappers and such out of combat. Did I mention I think this combo is AWESOME!

Fire/Dark is terrific. But try setting up a "mini superteam" of more than one. Oh man. I had one of my most memorable game nights when 3 of us teamed up around the mid 30s. We played together for about 3 hours and just steamrolled everything. Perma-Tar Patch and multiple RoFs. It was nuts.

EDIT: actually Fire/Dark would be a fun superteam idea. Just make sure everyone takes Maneuvers because 8-stacked Maneuvers plus all the Dark debuffs plus tons of AoE would be nasty.

Freedom: Blazing Larb, Fiery Fulcrum, Sardan Reborn, Arctic-Frenzy, Wasabi Sam, Mr Smashtastic.

Fire/Dark is everything they've said and more. I'd roll another one if there was a reason to do it.

I have a question about this combo.

I recently leveled a Fire/Rad and, while Ido like him, he isn't exactly what I was looking for. I really debated between Fire/Rad and Fire/Dark at the start. Initially my goal was to solo AVs but I have since shifted a bit towards being a more well rounded PVE player. Typically I enjoy herding groups of minions while hovering then hittin them with Rain>Fire Ball>Fire Breath.

It's looking like /Dark wll be a bit better at this, restricting the movement of the mobs and, well, for all the reasons already stated.

Anyway, so to the point.

Darks tier 9 is Fluffy. Now I have a 50 MM and Fluffy is very desireable for him. Stacking holds and -To Hit etc. BUT the playstyle is very different. I'm wondering how much trouble Fluffy will cause me if my Modus is to use Shadow Fall to sneak close from the air the start herding groups up and corraling them around a corner to get the most mobs in one spot underneath me while I fire off all the AoEs. It seems likely Fluffy will start the fight without me and start immobilizing critters before I get them to their destination.

Anyone have any experience with this?

True. Never use Fluffy while you're anchor herding. "Fluffy is a sometimes pet." Use him during difficult fights and against EBs, AVs and a particularly nasty boss. You can herd if you're quick and you have recall friend to pull Fluffy out of the mess, but it's honestly just better to not bother with him during normal pulls.

Yeah, Dark Miasma does very little to help you in PvP. You'd pretty much be relying on the awesomeness of Fire Blast to pull you through, which it won't once someone uses Heat Exhaustion or Infrigidate+Benumb on you.

My apologies. Its survivable as long as it can hit its target consistently with its heal.

This is my current build. A little of everything, decent +recharge and 20% ranged defense. I've found it really helps to go along with the -tohit debuffs. The one difference is that my build uses PVP IOs in Dark Embrace for the -KB protection, but you could just put a Steadfast -KB in Shadow Fall instead.

my Fire/Dark is level 42 and this will be the build I'm working towards:

Before you ask, yes I skipped RoF (Rain of Fire). It's the fastest way to piss an 8 man farm team off.

1. Be fast. Faster then fluffy, who is quite a slow wanderer anyway. SS works best for this (also, the stealth part stacks nicely to invis together with shadowfall). Run ahead, *assess* the room quickly and return with your DN activated, so the herd arrives at you when fluffy finally arrives at your feet. Alternatively, to buy yourself some more time, run one or maybe two corridors back and wait for fluffy to catch up and then run forwards to the area with mobs again to start your herd. Ofcourse this works better solo then when in team.
2. Dismiss fluffy and resummon in right place when your herd arrives.
3. Use recall friend and tp fluffy to the place you want him, if he's not.

It takes a bit of practise, but then you'll find it works out fine most of the times. Still, occasionally he immobs the baddies prematurely disturbing your herd idea, ending up wasting your carefully laid down tarpatch and selected position while he gets hammered (depending on size and type mobs), but that's life ;-D

No purples or Glad PvP unique. Apart from the Miracle and Numina unique (and who does not get them?) pretty cheapish build all up.

Softcapped range defence, good resists, good end management and a bit of global recharge and damage. Has full -hit slotting so should have little trouble -hit flooring mass amount of enemies and can even have a big effect on purple triangles.

Good damage, strong survivability either solo or team.

What? How? Why?

I farm. I like other people having rain of fire. I have Rain of Fire on several of my guys. I don't have nor often use Immobilizes. Are the bad guys able to escape Tar Patch + Rain of Fire? I find that hard to believe. I find that even harder to believe if there are 8 or a lot of you shooting them.

This is my current build, sans the Ragnarok in fireball which seems so far away from happening. I hover around to ensure the usefullness of the capped ranged defense.
Its also packing around 50% resistance to sm/lth and Energy.

I just do it the easy way...go to the farthest mob I feel like sucking up...hit DN to bring them through another mob or two...set up tar around a corner so they'll hit and slow while I wait with a freshly summoned fluffy next to me. After that its simple, ROF, fireball, breath, AIM, fireball and then inferno...mob is decimated and I just pop a blue if I need to take down a straggler...this way I can quickly and effectively herd mobs set for 8.
