I dunno if Fluffy has a longer Perception range or power range than other pets though, it seems like it sometimes on my Necro/Dark. Fluffy seems more likely to go "Hey, you lookin at me pal?" more than even my Imps or Phantasm when I'm standing back considering how to open the fight.
The "not a willing servant" is a leftover text from when the servant would not follow or move, and I think was left in for flavor. It works like a standard pet though it does have a lot of nice tricks.
Fluffy randomly attacks foes within range, just like your controller pets do, and is probably my favorite pet in the game for the versatility and superb debuffing it can do.

As for perception, you might have an aura which increases perception on the Dark Servant, such as Tactics?

Once upon a time, he decided to jump down to the bottom of the sewer trial when everyone was still at the top. Realizing his mistake, he walked all the way back up.
Fluffy could also be considered unwilling in that he is on a timer and must be resummoned periodically.

I always figured the Dark Servant text was meant to explain why his duration was limited, and not semi-permanent like Controller pets.
Are we sure? I haven't paid THAT much attention to mine, but I always figured it meant that if you run out of endurance, Fluffy goes away until summoned again.
