Respec was going awesome, tearing through first mission. The guy on team says he is not getting Experience and decides to logout and quit.
The thing was this guy was LEVEL 50.
AE baby?

Possib;ly. or just a moron. even before AE I've seen people join a TF or SF and complain of similar.

Boy oh boy do I have a treat for you all ...
I was in PI on my lvl 50 Fire/Kin taking out some Rikti Monkies for the Zoo Keeper badge when I got a random tell asking me "Have any room on team for a lvl 49 blaster?"
I was in a pretty good mood and the tell was actually in english as opposed to that damn "1337 5p34k" junk, so I said "Sure " and invited him.
So he joins the team and I say that I'm in PI hunting monkies for the badge. I tell him to make his way over to PI and take out some with me. He replies with "Okay."
So I'm sitting on the docks waiting for him to zone.
Five minutes pass.
Ten minutes pass.
I start to get a tick in my neck and I see he hasn't moved from Atlas, so I decided to ask him if he was coming or not. He replies with, "The mission won't let me in."
O.o
Thinking it was an error in reading, I tell him that I'm in Peregrine Island, not Atlas Park.
Once again he aknowledges and says he's on his way.
Another 10 minutes passes and he still hasn't budged from Atlas. I assume he's AFK or helping a friend or whatever so I ask him again, "Hey, are you coming?"
He then proceeds to go off at me saying that he can't enter the mission and that he'd been trying the entire time. I explain once again that I was in Peregrine Island, not Atlas Park. More of his clueless banter and me trying to explain to him. He doesn't listen so I just tell him good luck and quit team.
I thought it was over.
Wrong.
He abused me via tell for the next 20 minutes calling me a noob and many other racial and insulting names.

Holy crap, that story is the holy grail of the AE Baby Syndrome Forbin. You need to PM that to the Devs PRONTO!
That is just sad...
They were already whining during the Rikti raids about people leaving the AE building to fight the invasions. And while I was on one of my lowbies in Atlas, halfway through the big fight the team leader ran to the AE building, set a mission, and said, "Okay, it's time to get back to my arc." And then complained when nobody came. I wonder if it surprised him when a bunch of us quit the team as soon as the all-clear sounded.

You didn't lose them. They just quit to join a team with better XP.

I posted the story before, but I came back a while later, and poof, no thread, the devs had wished it into the cornfield. So I figured not that many people had seen it the first time around.
"Home is where, when you have to go there, they have to let you in."
Can you hear that sound? It's the game tearing itself into two factions...AE babies and players.
It's a rift that may cause long term discord. I already find myself checking vet badges when I invite to teams.
I seriously hope the devs are working hard at addressing these things. If taken with a grain of salt, the forums do put into words serious problems or concerns from the player base. Ever since AE was put into place, the forums have been inundated with complaints and horror stories. The last mechanisms that generated this type of response was GDN and ED. GDN and ED was a nerf to the system, while AE is almost the opposite. It basically empowers players so they can bypass ALL content within the game (with the exception of AE itself) and get weeks worth of experience in a day or two.
If the devs don't think this is a problem, then it's not. They're the ones that have to determine what kind of environment they want the game world to be. I would think though that if one type of content is attracting almost as many players as all of the others combined, that there's a problem.

That's probably the dumbest way to check to see if someone knows how to play, and has been ever since i8 when the vet badges went in.
But hey, no big loss - people that know how to play probably don't want to team with you, either.
it has gone from unconscionable to downright appalling that we have no way of measuring our characters' wetness.

I do the same thing. It's not a surefire way of telling anything, but it gives you a clue as to how much to expect from them.
Definitely not foolproof though, I've met players with no vet badges that were pretty good, and I've met players with 42 months worth that were idiots.
An EAT with no vet badges is a good sign of an AE baby though, especially if they're high level.

Yeah, I tend to agree. I have a friend who's a really great player and she only has 5 months on her. I've run into a lot of people who have under 6 months and know how to play the game.
My best story for bad vet was when I joined a team with a Brute leader who had the 54 or 57 month badge. They had a list of all their level 50s in their description, and had over a dozen of them. Before even 3/8 of us were zoned into the mission, they bounced ahead and aggroed two separate groups and died upon impact. I quickly found a reason to excuse myself.
Vet rewards don't tell you how good a player is or if they know what they're doing. All vet awards tell you is how long that account's been paid for.
Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.

Something liked this happened to my namesake a few weeks ago.
Get a tell:
ScrapperDood: Want to team?
Me: Sure, let's head to Peregrine Island and I'll run you through some missions.
ScarpperDood: Where's that?
Me: Take the ferry...marked Peregrine Island?
ScrapperDood: Ok (zones then waits). I'm not getting xp.
Me: Go to the red waypoint...click on the door?
ScrapperDood: This is really hard, bye.
Geez, heaven forbid someone isn't spoon-fed throughout the entire game experience, and I'm the farthest thing from a Kontent Kop too.

I tend to check their power list if I check anything - that gives me at least some idea of what I can expect from them. About halfway through the first mission you can generally tell what kind of player they are based on how their using what they have - there are some trends (skipping vital powers, bios that are painful to read, that sort of thing) that you can go with based on what's in the character information screen but overall nothing in it is going to tell you how good of a player they are - even the trends are often things that someone will mock for their amusement.
As for an EAT with no vet badges, that's a sign of someone's second account just as much as it is a sign of an AE baby. I know of a few different people with more than one account that simply PL'd the other account to 50 so that they could unlock epics on it.
it has gone from unconscionable to downright appalling that we have no way of measuring our characters' wetness.

Yep there are now three things you have to look out for:
newbs - not so bad, you just have to be patient with them and hope they're willing to learn
n00bs - usually hopeless
nAEbs - also hopeless
Yeah. 'Newbism' is one thing; 9 times out of 10, all those people need is another player to give them some tips. And let's be honest, we've all made errors before (I recall trying to navigate the Hollows with the GvE jump pack... and nothing else).
Idiocy, however, is punishable by me suggesting 'Hey, see those guys kitted out SOCOM style? They're wimps! Go beat them up!'
