It seems...I don't know...like a compulsion for me to play, every day, even for a little bit. That doesn't seem too healthy to me.
You mean Teik isn't the only one who has that compulsion?

Dumb Question number four-Lots of level 50 IOs sets. Are you going to be exempting? If not, that answers my question about Dumb Question number three. If you are, you can only exempt to level 47 and retain full bonuses. The way issue 16 is set up to be exempting friendly, exempting is something to consider when planning what level IOs to use...or is this to be your main build, and you have a second one for exempting?
This is why I Franken-slot. If I make sure that my powers are as effective as they can be (enhanced accuracy, damage, etc.), then losing the bonuses to exemping isn't such a big deal. Having fully-slotted out and enhanced powers is enough of an advantage for the lower level content I find.

Besides, I learned to play the character without the bonuses, so while they are nice, losing them shouldn't make the character unplayable unless you plan your build counting on those bonuses all the time.
  3. I'll log in, and I'll play. I'm not going to overexert myself though, and I may take some breaks even though Teik will likely play all day each day.
  4. Hmmm, my best one is a partial PUG TF I ran that had this Kin on it. The character had all the relevant powers, but once we got rolling, we realized that the Kin never SBed or Siphoned or anything like that. All this Kin did was rock Transfusion.

I'd never seen anything like it.
  5. For one easy thing: See if you can find a place for an anti-KB IO of any type. You only need an extra slot in either a defense power, a resistance power, or a travel power. That would eliminate the need to take and run Acrobatics freeing up a power.

Also, I'd look at maybe finding another place or two to slot a Chance for Hold proc because the mag of that hold, if it fires, won't be enough to hold bosses. IME, I generally wind up using Blaze on bosses left over from my AoE assault. If you can somehow stack two holds, you will hold that boss.

While healing IOs are good place holders until you can get the resources together, I find that the Numina Unique, Miracle Unique, and Regen Tissue Uniques do more. Those three slotted into your Health, will both increase your regen and your recovery.
  6. So, this takes place on Saturday or on Monday?

I'll be there if I can, but a Saturday run will be out for me this weekend due to family visit and football game.

If this is Monday, give me an approximate time and I'll bring my stormy.
  7. One thing to note with snowstorm - it is a huge endy hog. That being, said, I have it on my fire/ice and really like it. Just be aware that unless you have a lot of endred built in, you'll run out very quickly using an unslotted snowstorm.
  8. You took the Force APP and no Force of Nature? I can see that you're trying to stock in defense, but I just think that Force of Nature will do more for survivability than cobbled together defenses. And unless you're going to rely on PFF, since you don't seem interested in Force of Nature, I'd wonder why you aren't taking Cold APP in order to have a defense-based armor along with the heal of Hoarfrost. Then your armor bonus would stack with your Weave bonus although I'd see if you could add some slots to Weave to fully slot out the defense bonus.

Wait, I missed Tough on the first read through, but even so, why bother with the fighting pool if you aren't going to slot it out? If all you have is a couple slots to spare, I'd look at medicine pool or look at how you can add the tier 4 of your APP because I think it will help you more. I'm basing that off my fire/MM who has teh elec equivalent, and it makes her a mini-tank mage while it's on.

This for the uber vets! I class these as players who have like a 48 month badge and higher!

for these uber vets, i have 3 question! what toons have you been playing for all this time? have you played one from when you started till now? whats your favourite build?
I've been in the game since one month after launch, so I guess I qualify although how "ubar" I am in the game is entirely subjective and up to my teammates.

1.) I started with a kat/SR scrapper because they were supposed to be more solo oriented and tough enough to handle someone learning the game. My original scrapper, 9 Red Dogs, exists still on Pinnacle where I log her in from time to time whenever I begin to feel superior, so that I can cringe and be humbled by what I did to her in my newbie ignorance. My husband took over playing the account for a long time, and at the end of that we got a second computer and a second account and migrated to Virtue where I re-rolled my scrapper and began to give her the build she should have had. Unfortunately, I don't like playing melee toons nearly as well, so she still sits at level 40.

Somewhere in there I made my nrg/nrg blaster, Destinee Fable, and despite the fact that I had blaster hate, I got her to 50 and enjoyed the ride so much that I now have 3 other level 50 blasters - fire/ice, sonic/nrg, and fire/MM (my sig is old and I'm lazy about updating it). Between leveling the blasters, I've found time to level a storm/sonic defender to 50 (another surprise build, she was intended to be a throwaway SG alt-night character) and an earth/kin troller who will be moving to another server in retirement someday soon (I'm tired of her and get annoyed when people ask me to bring her along rather then one of my other characters that I enjoy more).

I have two other defenders working their way up to 50 who might be 50 had the XP during TFs lower than your level been in force - they are dark/sonic and TA/Arch.

2.) Since my original character is on a server I no longer play on, I haven't played her continuously though I did re-roll her when we moved to Virtue. She seldom sees play time though even on Virtue which is why she's only level 40. Of my 50s, only Tempered Flare, my fire/ice blaster, and Doplar Effect, my storm/sonic defender, see regular play time. Dop is completely IO'd now and Flare will be soon. Both were made sometime during my second year of play time.

3.) It's hard to say what my favorite build is. Dop and Flare are both charatcers I really like rolling out, but each has their specific uses that I feel they do better than my other 50s. If I had to pick a favorite powerset, I'd say fire blast, hands down. It just makes me feel super when I play it, and it's so fun to draw and avoid aggro.

Currently, I'm working up two baby blasters - rad/fire and nrg/elec, but I found time to break out my level 46 PB and level 38 DB/WP scrapper as well.

I guess my main focus for a while now has been running TFs because I love them, and breaking out an appropriate toon to round out a team has taken precedence to leveling to 50 which is likely why my dark/sonic has so many play hours without hitting level 40 yet.
  10. I've never had anything in this game that really occasioned the "offing" of a character as something more than simply emptying a character slot.

But in PnP games, some of the best moments are when you decide that you see the opportunity and go for it (so to speak). But I've been playing a lot of Legend of the Five Rings where death among characters is so easy to achieve that it sometimes/often comes up by accident. The dramatic duel or the seppuku are often the end of a long, dramatic storyline, and they can achieve as much heroically as a death in battle might. But in that world, death can be the means to your character's end where it often isn't so much in other RP games.

See that's the thing with me, I've been playing for 4 years, just got my 51 month vet reward this month, and I STILL don't know what "tiers" are. I don't know what normalized is or means. I mean I LOVE the game, I guess I'm not a real numbers guy. I mean I know what the dam, acc, end numbers mean when I look at the slots on my characters, I always try to max them out. All of my characters are IO'd out, but not purples, or the most expensive sets, but they do the trick.
Tier is just the order the powers are available in the set. Each set is a list of nine. The one you have access to first is your tier 1, the one you have access to fifth is your tier five.

Normalized is what they did as they were getting ready to release new Defiance. The tier 1 and tier 2 attacks of many blasters had widely variable animation times, activation times, and recharge times. Since your tier 1 and tier 2 base blasts are so important to both the buff you can get from New Defiance by attacking and the ability to fire through mez, the devs "evened" out the sets so that all tier 1 and tier 2 attacks are comparable across all the blast sets. They further monkeyed with the other powers in some sets to make sure that a blaster would carry a certain sustainable amount of damage buff from New Defiance for teh average player. This process was called "normalizing."
  12. Don't 6-slot stamina. Ever since ED came out, every slot past the third of a single type of enhancer offers less effectiveness. You can 6-slot it, but your 4th, 5th, and 6th enhancer of EndMod will not give you effectiveness worth the price you'll pay for them (no matter which type we're talking about). I guess if you want to slot all 6 pieces of an IO EndMod set for the bonuses then you would do it.

I get by just fine on my fire/ice with 3 slots in stamina and some extra EndRed slotted into individual powers as needed. Flare only runs out of endurance if he gets into a prolonged fight where he runs Snowstorm continuously.
  13. /Fire is, IMO, the red-headed step child of blaster secondaries. It has a few nice things it can do, but the other powers don't synergize well, and unless you have a control-heavy primary, it's really hard to play effectively.

I'm crazy enough to think about pairing it with rad blast when I16 launches.
  14. So, back to the topic:

I only need one Hero game. This one is it. I'm really waiting to see how Bioware delivers their Star Wars MMO.
  15. As has been mentioned, the first thing to do is decide whether or not the endurance cost of an AoE is warranted. I always have the first two basic attacks and Blaze on my fireblasters to cobble together a single target chain. Then, you need to position yourself in such a way so as to maximize the number of baddies you are hitting. When if comes to Firebreath, the cone is sort of narrow. I like to slot my cone attacks with some range where I can, often an HO-Cent as I approach level 50. The further a cone attack fires, the wider the end of the cone tends to get, so range is to your advantage with them. I either open with Fireball and break LoS and let them charge at me, stringing out into a line as they come then targetting the hindmost mob to unleash firebreath, or I open with Firebreath and finish with a splash of fireball.
  16. My two favorite ATs are blaster and controller with blaster being the favorite.

It's also very true that even within a single AT, the powersets you choose will make the gameplay very different. I love my stormy and I really like my TA defender, but even though she is pretty powerful, I tend to get bored with my dark defender because she's so easy.

On the blaster side, I have 3 50s and each plays differently. I have one ranger, one jack of all trades build, and one blapper. Each is fun and each plays completely differently.
  17. The I16 pre-download would be a good guess. A lot of times, when they have something sizeable to download, it's set to auto-download after you log out. It's nicer than having to wait to play until the download completes as you log in. The issue itself won't go active for a while, and when it is live, then you'll see the patch notes because nothing has changed yet.
  18. We ran in a successful MoSTF the other night. It's doable even if the Repairmen aren't fixed yet. Of course, we had a bubbler with force bubble, too.
  19. Fire/ice for added safety. Fire/MM if you want all AoE all the time.

The thing about cones is that with a little range and practice, you can make them not too hard to target correctly.
  20. For quick travel in the Shard (say you have a TF that needs to hurry along), you can just fall of the edge of any island and it will port you to the gate at either the beginning or ending of the zone, whichever is closest to where you fell. From there, you have easy access to zone gates in and out.

Orobouros isn't always the easiest way to travel between two zones. Sometimes, it pays to use Pocket D teleport or SG base teleport instead.

There is a small park in the northeast corner of Dark Astoria that spawns masks pretty reliably and you don't have to wait for nightfall. Just keep clearing spawns and working in a loop around, and you will get a pretty high ratio of masks for the badge.

Just immediately inside the door of Crey's Folly to your right is a warehouse. When you are hunting for your level 30 aura, this is often the best place to go for your Rikti requirement. Usually there are spawns of Rikti monkeys on the roof of the warehouse that are low enough level to be fairly easy to handle for a solo player at level 30. Be aware that sometimes higher level Crey sharpshooters will spawn either in the pipes to the left of the door or on the roof of the warehouse you want to use for Rikti-hunting. There are also sometimes Fake Nemesis on top of the warehouse so explore carefully.

Supposedly, a Vanguard heavy (purchased with Vanguard merits earned for killing Rikti after you run the intro missions in the RWZ) and a hero can farm the inside ring of the Storm Palace for both arcane salvage and recipes fairly easily. I haven't tested it, but I've heard people talk about it who have.

Make you run the intro missions in the RWZ as soon as you can enter the zone. From then on you can earn Vanguard merits for killing Rikti anytime you do it whether you are talking in a mission, in a zone hunt, whatever.

When you have a hunt mission without a specific zone, running a mission with that enemy type in it will fulfill both requirements. (not zone info, but useful to know if you haven't learned it yet regardless)

When running a respec, the SG base beacon to TV is the most convenient way to get to the reactor door.

Paragon Protectors spawn fairly regularly in the Gaspee area of Founder's Falls. They sometimes spawn along the south wall of Brickstown in the Dark Waters zone, too, but not with any regularity although they will be lower level.

Brickstown is the only place where you will find prisoners.

When hunting for the Numina TF and you need to clear out both Tsoo and Family, one run down the length of the bridge in Indy Port will usually net you all but enough of each.

The Striga ferry is a quick way to duck out of Talos to Indy Port or vice versa ... not that the tram is all that far away from the Striga ferry in Indy Port.

But Gale is great in particular circumstances, as when a large group is in a dead-end corridor, or the inside corner of a room. Gale and Hurricane can be used to great effect to collect them in corners and keep them knocked down permanently and totally to-hit debuffed. Energy Torrent is useful in those same circumstances.
Or when I want to play ping-pong with my own lightning storms.
  22. I play more blasters than defenders, but defenders rank as a close second.

    Doplar Effect - 50 storm/sonic/elec

    Nightingwail - mid 30s dark/sonic
    Max Vigil - mid 30s TA/Arch

Dop is the only character I have fully IO'd out. And strangely enough, even though Wail is much more powerful than Max, I enjoy playing Max more. Maybe it's because Wail is touch too controllerish for my taste.
  23. I find it useful on my sonic/em blapper to lengthen the duration of stuns and sleeps.
  24. We use VU2009 a lot when we're trying to fill up a TF, and so far it usually comes through with enough although it's been a lot harder to get the quotas since AE.

I still see random lfts in broadcast across the zones, but AE has sucked up a lot of people.

    MoSTF Saturday

I think they suspended the runs until the repairmen issue could be resolved because it makes downing the towers much more difficult without very specific power types found on only a very few characters.
