So anyone give into temptation about CO?

Just curious, did anyone give in and try it out? I have my paid off pre-order waiting for me, but I can't decide if I want to pick it up or cancel it.

I'm not bothering picking it up. If EB asks about it if I go there again I'll say I was on vacation and forgot about it

We've tried it here. Our verdict... it could be worse, it could be better.

There are some good ideas in the game. If the new bugs are ironed out quickly and the whole thing is managed properly, it could do well.

Will it replace City? Probably not. An analogy I've used elsewhere on the forums is "Coke and Pepsi" two fairly similar products which both have their fans (and detractors) yet have managed to survive in the marketplace. Despite what some folks are saying, there is room for both.

In playstyle, CO more resembles WoW that City in any case. WoW players will find the crafting, drops, UI and combat systems very familiar. It almost seems to me that Cryptic designed a competitor for the 800 lb. gorilla and not for City. If they manage to pull some players away from Warcraft, then good for them. WoW can take the loss.

I'd advocate wait and see. Those who feel like trying it out, go ahead. It cannot hurt anything. Just don't storm off of City with a cliche'd "I'm leaving" message. It makes you look a bit of a fool when you come back. Besides, we're not giving back your stuff.

I was in Beta for several months ... with that said I wont buy it. I am not saying its terrible, but not enough to pull me from COX.

I got a beta key. I tried to make use of the "absolute freedom to roll any kind of character you like" to roll a support character, with ranged attacks and buffs. I found myself dying more and more until about level 13 when I was stuck in the Canadian zone, completely unable to solo any of my own missions. Nobody else seemed to want to team.

Seems that the first thing they did on patch day was to buff the enemies, because the game had been deemed "too easy".

I wrote off Champions as "not for me".

Not only that, but they also nerfed the players powers, by up to 55% from what I hear. They essentially dropped a bombshell on their own games launch. Right when everyone was forming their opinions of the game.

I smell Ropers hand, personally. I can't see the Dev's I closed beta'd with and chatted up a storm in the chatrooms as having done this alone.

I heard that he used the analogy 'when you want to turn a ship, you just swing the wheel and stop it, then say 'thats too far, lets correct the course slowly, you dont just slowly turn'. I call BS on that. It was launch, and people are forming their opinions of your product.

Out of all times, that is the time you turn slowly if you need to.

And personally, near everyone was enjoying the game as it was, I question the need for large turns.

I played the open beta. There were some neat things, but didn't really enjoy actually playing the game. Maybe I'll check it out again at some point in the future and see how it has evolved, but for now it's not my particular cup of tea.

((When I got CoH two months or so after it launched, my computer gaming experience was limited to Wolfenstein, Morrowind, Freedom Force, and some SIMS. I had never played an MMORPG. I brought CoH home and installed it, and within minutes after installation, I was feeling superheroic patrolling the streets of Paragon City. The immersion was incredible. The controls were intuitive and the graphics were clear, even on that old computer I had at the time.

CO... I played for a couple months in closed beta and again in open beta, and did not experience any of that. It wasn't enjoyable for me. Some people love it, and I hope it gives them the hours of enjoyment that CoH has given me.

The only way I'd move to it from CoH is if most of the players I know on Virtue go there.))

I did a while ago when i was down and Junk,I thought about starting over on CO,so i got into Beta Testing it.After a while of peace in my life i started to Socialize more with people playing Coh and i realize that Players are what kept me playing coh.I Realize that Champions isn't what it's crack up to be,it's not much to offer so i got to turn it down for these Reasons and a couple other.

Its so much better than this game it isn't funny.

Playerbase, well, they're just about as retarded.

I actually -agree- with the changes they made at launch, but I dont agree with the timing. The game was -way- too easy, unless you went out of your way to just make the worst character ever (no offense Gale).

Tried it, but the gameplay isn't for me. Not a bad game, just not what I'm looking for.

Tried it, but the game needs too much twitch, and I also get some kind of headache from the graphics. (I've tried turning them down, turning off black outline.)

But I also didn't find the game fun. If I hadn't played CoH solid for 5+ years since its beta, and been there through it all, Champions Online might seem new to me, but it felt like I was being served twice-baked leftovers that someone hadn't bothered to even disguise with spices.

To all who like it, have fun over there on Shard #7 (The Unofficial RP Virtual zone instance).

To the OP:

Nope.

I haven't played the beta and stopped watching the forums a while ago. I have totally formed my opinion on the words of people here that I trust plus the inane ramblings of so-called professional MMO magazine playtesters who IMO tell us the exact opposite of what the game will be like.

As said above, it's the players that make CoX fun to play, the game is just a fun interface to goof off with them

I was in Beta for a few months, but quit because the game was so dull.

Oddly enough, it was dull because it was far too easy. The day one Mega Nerf may help a lot with that, but I certainly will not be subbing to CO.

Converted over for a bit, it's...decent, was in closed and open beta, and i'm willing to give it a bit more time, two things stick out.

One, me and others are having issues with teams, they'll drop at random and only a GM can fix this, now if they weren't lazy....

Two, defensive powers and travel powers got nerfed kinda bad, i'm not noticing or caring, but i may later, and i don't hold everything together.

The playerbase on the other hand...is, well yes retarded, i'm with a coliation group of buddies i know, but the public zones and the game's "pocket D" zone are made up of two things every couple of feet. Furries with wolf toons in the hunched over beast stance and munitions and swords powersets, and Console Tards you'd expect to be on forts hanging around the arena terminals; and of course have ******** names "ownu" "jakke" "lookbehindu"

Hopefully they'll fix those two issues, but not before they make the retarded pvpers quit in rage.

My little brother was in the closed beta, and let me fiddle around with it. The gameplay seemed adequate, but not my style. I couldn't imagine teaming ever becoming popular, or even supported by a large minority. Teaming, in CO, felt to me like PvP does in CoH. Like the developers had given up on it as a serious priority, and the players were following their cue. And their costume generator? Options seemed to generally fall somewhere between bland and hideous. I did like the greater body shape customization options, but that's about it.

I tried it during closed, open, and prerelease. Prerelease was bad. If I ever go to it, I'll have my preorder perks as well as my open beta perks. After trying I16 on test, I actually remembered how much I loved CoX, and I even got another 7 months (accidently hit 7 instead of 14, using the promotion).

I found I ran out of things to do, and nobody wanted to team (except some CoX people). It was all min/maxing, getting the most powerful skills you could. The only thing that was better than CoX in it is the costume creator. That's it.

If I ever give up on CoX it'll either be Warhammer Online or the new Star Wars thingy.

I had some extra money so I picked it up. My feeling on it is Meh. I quickly learned that stealing the objective while someone else is fighting the mobs is about the only way to get them. In all the time I've been trying it, I've teamed once. No one seems to want to team. When my time is up, I'm not going back. I'm still going to spend more time here till then.

Took a look.
It has some nice points, but the graphics dont scale well to my older system. On very high its looks decent (not super) but will kill my comp. On low its running OK (not super) and looks like cat vomit with more color in it.
Also the animations of about anything (there are exceptions) are the worst i have seen since 16 bit sprite gaming.

The rest is standard fair. Nothing new or groundbreaking, some hints of good ideas that didnt get developed enough.

Just my opinion.
