My views on the ATs in Teamwork
[ QUOTE ]
I am guilty of tanking with my controllers
[/ QUOTE ]
My Corruptor has made a career out of tanking...
The off-beat space pirate...Capt. Stormrider (50+3 Elec/Storm Science Corruptor)
The mysterious Djinn...Emerald Dervish (50+1 DB/DA Magic Stalker)
The psychotic inventor...Dollmaster (50 Bot/FF Tech Mastermind)
Virtue Forever.
I am fond of the 'amoeba' formation where the team stays close enough for Rad/emp/kinetic/dark heals - no chasing down teammates. Everyone is inside the big FF or sonic bubble for maximum mez protection. Toggles of buff and debuff are readily accessible. Nuke pecking orders are set up so no nuke is wasted. All are part of a steamrolling goal.
Triumphant Defenders Forever
Psylenz FF/Psi, ArticQuark Storm/Rad, Symon BarSisyphus Bots/psn, Max VanSydow Thugs/Dk, Cyclone Symon Bots/stm, Blue Loki Ice/Cd, Widow 46526
HelinCarnate:OMG it is so terrible. I have the option to take 3 more powers but no additional slots. Boo F'ing hoo.
So, are you saying that teams should basically be a Hamidon and its Mitos, Psy?
OP play a Corruptor.
Thats one of the best things about COV with a Corruptor you can heal AND deal damage AT THE SAME TIME! which when COV came out was unheard of

I love my fire/kin and fire/dark Corr and can only savour what hellish damage machine a fire/rad Corr would be (I've levelled too many Corrs to play the same powersets again).
Even my rad/rad Corr, whilst not amazing in damage, deals with mobs quite nicely with all the debuffs he has. My ice/kin Corr is also quite nasty, but no-where near the two /fire characters.
Then again, I can say the same about all my MMs - I never need a team when I'm on any of them (interestingly, I don't really get team invites while on them, but that's going off topic)

Funnily enough, *I* play every AT like a Defender.

Eh, I play everything as a scrapper....... my defenders dont like it

I subscribe to the KKND approach to teaming. That is to say, Krush, Kill n' Destroy. If you're going to turn teaming into a needlessly complicated dance, then I'll go kill stuff by myself, or with a team that's more open to just flipping out and killing stuff.
Hell, why does everyone always paint "the Tanker" as the big man on the team who's the most important? Pretty much every team I'm ever on doesn't even HAVE a Tanker, yet we still do just fine.

Experienced, good, inventive, or crazy players (take your pick) can go beyond these roles with impunity. The most important things any AT brings to the team is that they contribute towards the enemies' defeat, and that they do not contribute to the defeat of the team.

..and even the second part can be ignored and still a team c an reap great success.
[/ QUOTE ] Agreed. On the rare occasion that I team and it's a steam roller, I will do my best to pull mobs on top of us until we wipe. Not to grief people, but to stress the team. Basically if I cannot pull enough mobs to make us teamwipe then either the team [censored] rocks or the map/spawn placement sucks.

[/ QUOTE ] Honestly, except for very specific encounters, I consider tanks a waste of space. Fact of the matter is, on 99.9% of the missions in this game, in a team setting a well built scrapper is better than a tank.
Hell, you don't even need a melee character all the time. I've played teams of, say, all Blasters and it was pure carnage before anyone had a chance to so much as even think about attacking us. I've also played teams of all Dominators since I15's changes, and it's been much the same result - a bunch of enemies incapable of taking action waiting to be killed.
I suppose if you're going for some stupid difficulty setting and want maximum return for your time, you may want to build the perfect team, but for regular contact instances? Who needs anything but whatever you snag off team seek?

I did an all Scrapper STF. That was fun.
Didn't even need nukes or shivans.

Sometimes I wish more players started out Redside, where AT "roles" are much more open to interpretation, and everybody's expected to contribute heavily to offense. Then, when confronted with Blueside ATs that seem to correspond closely to traditional MMORPG standards, they'd be able to more quickly recognize how much more potential and flexibility all ATs actually have.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is why I expect GR to impove the hero PUG experience. I hate those teams where everybody acts like a chicken, and I am often the one to get killed or considered "noob" while the rest of the team moves like molasses.
But then it took a while for even villains to learn. I once heard back that I was getting a bad rep in a SG because I was charging ahead as a MM, not "letting the stalkers scout," or asked for mez protection from a buffer who considered it absurd for me to ask "when we have a brute in the team."
A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!
Ugh, I loathe stalkers that "go scout". They're always useless types who just leech instead of fight. I scrap with my stalker, i don't go clear the fog of war off the map because that's SO important :P
unless they're picking priority targets by tab or something. I have macros to automatically pick out sappers or surgeons and whatnot so I can spot them immediately and then rip their head right off to keep them from being obnoxious.

I now need to team with you and/or Smurphy at some point. It'd be nice to get a team that considers death a sign that you're actually fighting something interesting instead of something to be avoided at all costs.
Hopefully i16 will let the virtual team slider go above 8 for 16-man spawn suicide squads.
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
Scouting is a very important task where indiscriminate slaughter is the Modus Operandi of everyone indeed.

If you're a defender, buff your teammates and then kill things.

As the owner of four Dark/Dark Defenders and Corruptors, two of which are 50s, I call shenanigans on this.
I have a friend who was impressed by my Darks, who decided to roll his own Dark/dark Defender. The character is now level 50. He has two attacks, no Fearsome Stare, no Fitness, and meanwhile is running both Assault and Tactics.
I consider him so unutterably gimped that I just can't tell you. I can't tell him that without hurting his feelings of course, but his Defender is all but useless to a team.
A good Defender or Corruptor is 50/50 on attacks and buff/debuff. Anything else is gimped, and anything else is the Defender or Corruptor cheating themselves. AND doing a lot of faceplanting, but that's another story.
SO MANY Defenders and Corrs and Controllers think their contribution to the team is SB. That's all they do, hang back and continually SB. LAME and GIMPTASTIC and just plain sorry.

The all scrapper ITF I ran was one of the best experiences I've ever had in this game. We had lowbies and even had to work hard at the end to get through it.
Be well, people of CoH.

Whereas I play most things like a Blaster. Definite tactical shift to play my Brutes, Scrappers and Stalker - and I know I can't play a Tanker worth a damn.
Altoholic - but a Blaster at Heart!

Todos los ATs should do lo que necesitan para not die y have fun. Si los jugadores no estan having fun, ningun de los ATs estan doing their jobs.

This is not your Mother's MMO. Any AT can do (practically) anything in this game. Defenders can tank, Blasters can Control, for example.
The rule is, like the previous gentleman said, do what you like, stay alive, and have fun.
