New powers in I16?

you aren't the only one, Quinzy.

Although the implementation of Dual Blades was pretty unique, I'm still disappointed in the community for picking yet another smash/lethal set for melees to use. As if we don't have enough of those already.
Before we add an exotic set like psi melee, let's also add chainsaw melee!

This'll probably piss you off more then; I really want pole-arms. It's the last thing I need to make every character that I've ever wanted. Make it so I can use a spear, staff, and scythe with the same set, of course. Then I'd be set.
How would Psi Melee work? Doesn' it come from your brain? ...Will I get a head-butting power? If I can slam my head into enemies and transfer psychic energies into them, I would be sold on Psi Melee.

Oh, maybe scrappers will finally get a fourth epic pool?!

Great! Then instead of useless, useless and useless, Scrappers can have useless, useless, useless and useless as Epics

This. i've always liked staff fighting styles. Presumably it would be heavy on KB/KD/KU, use somewhat longer ranges on attacks than other melee sets and have multiple AoE's.
Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...
Staff/Pole arm would be cool, but I think we need something away from conventional weapons. Psi Melee, Radiation Melee, or somethgin totally of the wall like sonic melee?
Who knows but I don't want to play another weapon set (incoming personal opinion) and I feel non-weapon sets feel more super heroey.
I've never understood the melee sets people propose, for it sounds like they should just be ranged powers.
On the other hand, I feel controlling powers seem the most heroic (behind basic super strength), and I've been pushing Time Control!
The real thing is though, is that any melee set is still that a melee set. So Psi melee is basically just going to be melee only with a glowing mental blade or something as opposed to a weapon.
That being said, i'm all for it, though it does seem weird that most of the melee weapons are bladed (for heroes too) when it seems most heroes in comics use blunt weapons to you know, not murder everyone they fight
It'd be cool to get a staff set, but one of those other ones (psi, radiation melee) would be very awesome too.
If nothing else, how about paired ascrima(sp?) sticks for dual blades for those of us who want to at least pretend we're not killing every thug we meet on the street

Well, we have to propose something. We can't just have weapon after weapon after weapon set. What do you suggest for a super hero melee set that is not a weaponset?

i think colors will probably be the main meat of the issue.

I've heard there's some potatoes and gravy coming as well. Mmm, gravy.

French fried taters with mustard on em.
Mmmmm Hmmmmm.

Before we add an exotic set like psi melee, let's also add nunchaku, katars, tonfas, staves, street fighting, flails, whips, spears, brass knuckles, and chainsaw melee!
[/ QUOTE ]heres the problem though, most of those would have several superheroes we can name that have them, and have distinctly recognizeable styles that actually would make them really good. I mean, lets look at the oft asked for staff set, minimal time on youtube can find us several really impressive videos of marital artists doing some crazy staff techniques, same with the nunchaku you mention, what is psi melee going to have that will match that? Made up styles just dont have the flash that ones based on real world techniques do.
the elemental melee sets have been boring upon boring, either generic sword swings, punches recycled from super strength or claws, or worst of all, just holding your hands out(scorch, i beleive). I mean, if they are going to commit to some impressive animations for psi melee for once, alright, gimmie some new kicks and punchesfor it and we have a deal, but people who just want psi melee because they have a hang up about the s/l resists of some late game guys, that smacks of min/max whining.

Considering how well the existing weapon sets represent real world styles I'm sure that if we got a staff set it would be full of awesome animations
haymaker with a staff
jab with a staff
total focus with a staff
spin with a staff

.
I take frequent breaks and call them just that, I have never claimed to be "quitting" (or at least not that I can recall)
I hadn't planned to come back until the next round of proliferation, but it looks like they have canceled that project indefinitely.

I heard that in I16 the devs are increasing the level cap to 50.99.
[/ QUOTE ]
And every issue from then on, they will add a 9 to the end of the cap, thereby getting us that much closer to 51!

Same here. I think that the issue we see Sonic or Psi Melee is the issue we see Katana Blast.
Which would be ridiculously awesome, but you get my point.

We'll find out sometime this month.
When? WHO KNOWS!
The Shadow knows.
...creepy [censored].

That would be Dark Watcher.

I would think that we may get some sets ported over to both sides, in preparation for going rouge, and maybe a few new sets.

Pyre Mastery ported over. K thx~

People who argue against Psi Melee as a represented Superhero power have evidently never heard of Psylocke, who is, coincidentally, my favorite Marvel character ever.

The big question I've always had concerning Psychic Melee (which it's the only real elemental melee set we're missing now; Sonic Melee is a possible addition, though less likely) is whether it will be along the lines of Psylocke with the blades of manifested mental energy/condensed telekinetic force or more along the lines of the existing melee psychic powers in game. Either would be awesome, and I have no real opinion on which would be better.
The important thing to remember where additional powers are concerned, if you're going to poo-poo the addition of additional "bland" s/l damage sets, is that s/l damage sets are more versatile. To me (and presumably the devs), it's much more important to have a fun, thematically open, diverse power set selection. If you try to get more specific with the elemental damage sets beyond what they already do, you're going to be getting so specific as to pigeonhole anyone that wants to use the power set (Lightning Hammer, Flaming Spear, Frigid Axe) so it's wiser to simply have a single broadly defined set for each element. The nice thing about weapon based s/l damage sets is that there are loads of them that are still thematically different and conceptually vague.
Personally, my preference of new melee damage sets is the remainder of the elemental damage sets (re: Psychic and Sonic Melee), s/l damage weapon sets (re: Polearm, Staff, Eskrima, etc), and then, at the very end, elemental weapon sets (re: Lightning Hammer, Energy Blade, etc.).

My thought on this is that, since power customization is coming out - YAY! - The elemental weapon attacks (at least) could get hit with a round of weapon customization, since, IIRC, the only reason they weren't included (spines, EM, etc, as well) when Weapon Customization came out was that the particle effects on hit and their projectiles couldn't be changed to match the altered 'weapons', but that's a non-issue now.

[/ QUOTE ]fine, but shall i mention the cool characters who use bo staves, polearms, nunchaku and whips? As i said, im not against psi melee entirely, but explain how its going to look, because psylocke's "hook" is that she is a ninja as well, her psi powers are integrated into her unarmed skills, she basically is using psychic katar. now if shes your fave character, you know her a lot more than me, but psi and radiation melee, end even sonic just seem to be things that are projected outward, not something with existing fighting styles that can be moved into the game. i mean, one reason i like dual blades is that the animations looked cool, i can see that with staves , nunchaku or whips, but i need sold on what makes psychic power, radiation and sonic powers fit in melee. im an easy sell, honest, just gimmie something to work with. Mental manipulation seems to have one melee strike, and it basically is holding up your hands and sapping the enemies brain, we already have a hand wavy power with darm melee.
Actually...could be wrong of course...but I think we'll see Dual Pistols & Demon Summoning in i16.
I think GR will be more than just 2 new sets for only a few ATs.

Maybe it's just me, but shouldn't going rogue have new AT's for the people that just wanna be rogue?
Or am I completely wrong, and Going Rogue is built so people can just switch between red and blue side, not go into the "neutral" side.
Any way that's my perception of GR...
