OP, I know exactly what you mean...I thought I loved my tank until I made my emp/rad defender. I log in on her just to sit and hang out if I have nothing better to do, fly around in circles, streetsweep, anything I can think of as long as it's not playing an alt. 
City of Heroes taught me that when the world is burning, you don't just stand by and watch, you grab a fire extinguisher and do whatever you can to stop it-even if it's not much at all. Sign the petition to keep City of Heroes alive HERE.

Have you ever had the experience of falling in love with one of your characters. Of just wanting to play them all the time you're on? Of wanting them to have all the accolades and best stuff, because the character is a little bit of awesome with a chaser of win.

Minus the accolade part (I hate grinding badges for those things), this has happened a couple of times for me.
First with my fire/axe tank The Barbarian Nerd.
Everything came together so well with him I've never even tinkered with his bio or look...and I'm an inveterate tinkerer.
I've tried making alternate costumes, but can't beat his original look so that's all he rocks. I blew all the inf he made farming DA on getting the Lord of War badge because it was PERFECT for him.
The other one was my namesake the Goat, my lone level 50 villain. Again, he's perfect and I wouldn't change anything.
He's a soloing and farming machine and I play him more than any of my other characters.
I've dropped about 500 million into IO/Purpling him out and probably have another 500 or so to go (he's building capital just now). Just a guaranteed good time whenever I log him in.

I'm in the same boat, goat. This character is in her first costume. Only change is that she has the high collar cape which is just awesome on her.
The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

I have 2: My first was a MA/Nin Stalker called 'The Rascal King' (my first character to 50, & before the I12 stalker buff). His name was Vinnie & he was an international jewel thief, who, most of the time, pretended he was a low level crim, and got his high profile jobs attributed to a mythical figure called "The Rascal King' whose legen he would feed as much as he could while still dismising him as 'impossible'.
To give you an idea of how much time & effort I put into this character: I spent 8 hours in Sirens Call farming Dept for the High Pain Threshold accolade 
Just experienced this last week actually 
What makes it bizarre is that I had a character up to 30 with the exact same powersets/AT that I had lost interest in, and somehow the name + concept + costume of the new character took that failed attempt and turned it into something *awesome*.

Same as Nethergoat and EvilGeko, my love character is in the original costume. And I hate that this was not my badge character, because the badger gets all the time, but I can only truly love my dark/dark.

I didn't care for my Elec/SR brute until about mid-30's when I completely redid her outfit. Then I couldn't stop playing her.

That should earn you a badge...I deleted every pre-buff stalker I ever tried to play.

There is a reason why I played almost nothing BUT The Philotic Knight for 4 years straight. I played him so much so that my ex, when she was my wife, asked me if I "loved him more than" her and then insinuated that I was really gay.
I explained to her that I can't be gay because PK is MY "ideal self". So if anything, I'm just in love with myself. Not surprising.
Needless to say, we were separated less than 3 months after that conversation. 
Oh yeah, I love my Emps.
I just cranked my Emp/Psy to 1498 hit points, nice recharge on the powers, high healing rate, so incredibly fun. Got the Ill/Emp to 1605 HP with purples all over, great stuff.
Then my namesake, from TOs to DOs to SOs to completely Hamid to IOd/Purpled, just can't stop going back to her for fun fun fun.

Yes, I have just fallen in love with characters before. The real amusing thing, though, is I have a tendency for characters to fall out of favor in the 30s and I just shelf them. Then I'll come back 6, 12, or even 24 months later I brush them off and have a blast. Sometimes it's powerset tweaks, other times it's a new build, or even a minor IO infusion to even out the rough spots.
There are times when I shelf a character and never come back to them. That was the sad fate of my BS/Regen (forum icon). I still enjoy the character concept, but the sets just no longer work for me - my tastes have evolved.
As for costumes, most times I only ever make one. The first one just captures their essence in ways I can never reproduce without it feeling forced.
My two favorite characters at the moment are my WP/Fire Tank and Dark/Rad Corruptor (lvl45, I may get a 50 villain yet!). The Tank, Brimstone-Preacher, can handle pretty much anything I put in front of him, can swap between AoE and ST on the fly, and is just a blast to play in teams. He started as a gag villain (Fire/Stone Brute), was remade as hero (he fits much better blue side), and my enjoyment of the character did nothing but grow over the levels.
The Corruptor, Blight Scarab, was one I played up to the teens/twenties, dropped for a couple years, picked back up and got her to 30, dropped, then finally dusted her off months later and has been an active project ever since. I enjoy the debuff, control, and damage (even if it's not the best the AT has to offer). The variety of the powers and the ability to turn the tide of tough fights (EM Pulse, I have no words for your awesomeness) is incredible. The only gripes I have for the character is mezzes still toggle drop her and her effectiveness is greatly diminished in spreadout spawns.
I have several other characters that are fun to play (my Sonic/Elec Defender of all things, is one of these), but they're not ones I want to play all the time.

She's making my other alts jealous.
I created a Fire/Shield Scrapper and it all just "clicks". Her backstory is she's from an exiled sect of Efreet who worship the Sun Gods and have rejected the evil and deceit of the Elemental Plane of Fire. She's become a Paladin and come to the "Shining City of the Mortals" to join the fight against evil.
I always liked the character, but after getting FSC and her cape, it all came together. The costume, the feel and pace of play, everything. I just had my main spend 75 million to outfit her with four full sets of Touch of Deaths. AND I LUB HER MOAR!!!
Sorry had to share. But I would love to hear if others have had the same experience or am I the only weirdo. (Yes, I'm a weirdo.)
