    Farewell

It's been a privilege and a lot of fun to have been a small part of the niche you carved out of this game with The Sisterhood and SHF. If it weren't for your damn no-PL policy I could've had my own division in the SG!!

The people I played with, chatted with, and will miss the most are the folks I met in The Sisterhood and the SHF channel.

I certainly hope for the best with you and Liz wherever that path may lie.

The biggest compliment I believe you can get from another player is the one @Yeti gave you earlier in the thread - regret that more time wasn't spent with your group earlier on in the game. I agree wholeheartedly and of the few regrets I have one is that I strayed from playing with your group fulltime when I branched out on my own.

Take care and thanks for some good talks and great times over the last 8+ years!

This is the reality of it.

I logged in the weekend of the announcement to fraps a few things as keepsakes but other than that there isn't much of a reason to keep playing.

I know I'll regret it the moment I cannot log in again, but it's too depressing right now.
  3. I'll post an alt list later, but for now, this is the best I can do.

Feels like we’re all in a fight we can’t win, doesn’t it?
Unknown people are making decisions affecting our lives.
Certainty is something we are all seeking but we won’t know if we'll have it.
Knowing that the end is near and we’re seemingly unable to change it is what hurts.

You alone can decide how you choose to remember your time here.
Others can only decide when it ends, but not what the game meant for us.
Understanding the true meaning of our time together is how I’ve decided to face the end.

Nobody can change how we feel about the people we’ve met playing this game.
Constant reminders are in our everyday lives of those friends we’ve made along the way.
Some came into our lives and left too soon, some stayed way too long.
Only by remembering all of them will the memories truly stay with us forever.
Forgetting the bad only jades the good, forgetting the good only reinforces the bad.
Together we entered a city of strangers, we made it a city of friends, and we leave it a City of Heroes.
  4. Hmph, I could swear AE got bumped in the past, this changes things big time for me if it pans out that it doesn't.
  5. Unfortunately if you don't have enough respecs to plan it out (even with the two freebies) it's a matter of:

    A. How much will I lose by having to rebuy the IOs or not being able to sell them at WW/BM.

    vs

    B. How much will it cost to buy a respec recipe.

Sometimes it's just not worth it to burn the cash buying the respec because the 10 IOs you'll lose won't make up the difference.

It's a bitter pill but unless they reformat the respec one we've all had to swallow.

He was a City of Heroes player from very early on, and was one of my friends who helped me get a handle on the game when I finally decided to dive in. His primary characters were Chuda Mezaru, GenericHero (which was also his global handle), and Serenity Jones. His characters were also some of the earliest members of the supergroup called USELESS. Over the last few years, Mike didn't login to the game very much at all, but he would still check in when he had the opportunity. I hope some of you had the opportunity to play along when he was around.

Mike was a good friend, and he's gonna be missed.

I'll post a link to the obituary as soon as it's released -- it will certainly provide a better biography than I possibly could.

    I'm sorry for your loss.

You didn't say anything wrong, the guy who responded angrily, whom nobody has ever heard of, was just looking to remind us all why we're happy we've never heard of him.

We'll do it for a few months so folks can snag those highly sought after badges, then we'll return to Shadow Shard Shaturday and will likely switch between the two events every few months. I was going to make the "official" post later this evening, but figured I'd give a heads up in advance since it seemed appropriate.

When we start doing the 'Master of ____' runs I'll shout it out in the Sisterhood Friends and Crimson Order global channels, as well as coalition channel. The word usually spreads like wild fire from there anywhere and I'm sure it'll find its way into LB. Cappy is also usually pretty good about posting stuff like that in the MotD with enough notice so I'll try to make sure he knows about it.
    I like this idea.
  9. Welcome back, feel free to pm me (@SweetSarah) with anything you might need.
  10. Felt like I was playing Twister trying to get a decent shot of these.

    21 years and counting!

    Words to live by.

    The obligatory college ink.

The fourth one I have isn't posted, it's nice and personal.

    2. Freedom - Home. Specifically, the WW in Talos is my home. Lots of players of different types and you can find mid-level players easier. Keep that ignore and your notes feature handy, you'll need them, especially if you don't get out of Atlas Park quick enough. Five starring is also good for great players. Best server to make a great team on, not just get on a team.
    3. Virtue - Like Freedom but I'm embarassed by the RP sometimes. I tend to stand next to War Witch in P-D when I level. It's just habit, but at night the freaks come out. Holy crap, you gotta see it to believe it. Virtue cannot insult Freedom for it's Atlas Park broadcast spammers, or shouldn't with the crazy RP that goes on.
    4. Champion - Weirdos. I've never gotten a good feel for the server. Everyone acts like a a bird or strange bug or something. Quick thinking, silent, alien. The tanks rule though. The others are strange twitchy reptiles.
    [I kid, I kid. Mostly.]
All my chickadees are on Liberty and I like the above description. I will say that I've rolled and deleted alts on every server and without a doubt Liberty has the friendliest feeling I've seen. I know I'm biased but it's always felt like home.

That Thread is titled "Is Evil defined by action intent both or neither?"

    link to my post: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...&postcount=206

I will ask the same question here:

If killing one person saves the world, is that a world worth saving?

I stated clearly in that post what my intention was I believe.
Has the definition of Kill changed from what I posted?
The ensuing disscussion ... has me asking this question here.

Am I so off base and unconnected with society, do people really believe killing someone is a good deed?

    Valor
That's a great thread you linked to - thanks AV.
  15. If Ozy told the people what he was about to do the act would have been lost. The genius behind his plan was "tricking" the entire planet into playing nice with each other. He was willing to be a villain to the people of the world if it meant saving them. Kind of reminds me of the very last scene in Dark Knight.

Also, before we get along too far, we should clarify that 'kill' and 'murder' are very different words/terms. Killing is an act based on biology, murder is a political/legal term. I don't want to threadjack and get lost on the interpretation based on where we might live, but those two words are very, VERY different.

That said, any world worth living in is worth saving - but the ends only justify the means if you're around at the end. It's all a matter of perspective. I would definitely say that the loss of one person, innocent or guilty, is worth the lives of the rest of the planet. In a college ethics class we were presented with the option to kill a child to save a village. I didn't make too many friends that week - but I wasn't alone. Sure you can rationalize a life unlived to a life well-lived or a life forfeited in prison. But it really comes down to the needs of the many ... you know how that ends.

And after all that - I'll circle back and agree with AV: Evil is defined by both Action and Intent.

    The Sweet Sarah

Yeah, I know, GEL beat me to the punch blah, blah, blah.

I commissioned a fantastic artist from DA to render his impression of my main. He completed it mid-209 and I feel bad for waiting this long to give him some credit for it.

His homepage is http://xxwarbladexx.deviantart.com/ and if you're interested in having work done please contact him. Even if you aren't looking for this type of work give him a minute of your time to view his gallery and let him know what a great job he does. He was great to work with and stayed in constant contact to make sure we had everything done as accurately as could be expected.

That said, here she is with a Roman background to reflect the ITF parts of my SG uniform.

    My main
  18. Getting back to the real question though ... what do I think makes a person a Hero?

I believe it's someone whose presence is a positive factor on our server.

... someone who gives for the sake of giving.

... someone who follows with a little humility and leads with a lot of humility.

... someone who learns from their mistakes and helps others not to repeat them.

... someone who teaches, not tells.

There are a TON of great people on our server who meet some of those standards. There are few who meet them all. And of those few who do, I'm proud to call them friends and they know who they are.

LOL - I do the same with my main whenever I have her on - always help the female mugging and CoT victims.

Just imagine a screen shot with a couple of hundred characters clustered under Atlas! very sweet.
The Hami raids are capped now at 50 people in the Hive at any one time. The old cap was I believe 200, once you hit that a second instance would spawn and you would have Hive 1 and Hive 2 when you went to enter the zone. It wasn't too common to spawn the second instance but it did happen from time to time.

The lag and nonsensical chatter were pretty heavy as you could imagine with upwards of 200 people in a zone all concentrated in a small location. Griefing became common with some SG's and individuals but the real issue was the lag. There were a ton of people asking for the Devs to help out but what we got instead was a community-killer. I'm not saying that to imply there was another way - I simply don't know what options they had - but I for one would welcome back the lag and spam to have the massive open raids again.

The Hami raid used to be something people planned TF's around, quit teams to attend, and used to stay in touch with one another. Remember this was before the servers went to almost exclusive involvement through global channels so the main way to stay in touch was through their SG or other ties. So any given night 100+ Heroes would gather up to fight Hami and stick around after the raid to talk and trade HO's. Because so many people ran with their SG's nearly exclusively you could go to the raids to stay in touch.

I'm not on as much anymore.

The real answer is that the game is too instance-heavy now. Case in point, even the Hami raids are capped at 50. Gone are the 'glory days' of massive street sweeps and hunts when people did missions just to kill time between fighting out in the zones.

The biggest mistake the Devs made, imho, is cutting down on the open zone fighting and teaming. Most of the people I met in this game were from running around in the zones and street sweeping for hours at a time. Anymore you only see broadcast or request messages for a few seconds at a time because the interim periods are so short with the ability to skip zones so quickly. So while there are people seeking help or advice most of us with the ability to truly help them won't see the message.

Anyone who did the old school hami raids, and please overlook the griefing for the sake of the thread, will tell you what an important occasion it was for everyone to gather as a server. We all took it for granted until we knew it was going away but it can't be understated what a huge blow it was to the sense of community we enjoyed.
  22. It appears to be gone - such a shame, it really was an epic display of how the human body can shut down non-vital organs to maintain life through prolonged periods of inactivity.
  23. I half ***** it this time around:

    Five alts from 1-40
    One alt from 1-29

Of course now every single alt I have is level 40 (minus the one at 29) and my accounts have room for only one more to be rolled before I have to reactivate acct 6. I'm hoping Demon summoning will be worth the time I could've had getting that slot to 40 this weekend.

I'm trying to find my post from a few double xp weekends ago, the sight of that will give you a nosebleed.
  24. Welcome to our server and to the game!

You might have missed it, but there is something very important you need to do before you get too far into the game:
