You ever fall in love (with a character)?

See the 3 50s in my sig?

Them.

But most especially the most recent one, Master Tolarin.

For once, I understand the fun of playing a toon the opposite gender of the player.

I deliberately avoid sticking with a single character; since I run things tournament-style with spreadsheets, score keeping, dedicated turn cycles, etc.

However, I do have favorites and despite my efforts to give every one of my characters an "equal footing" there are huge discrepancies between them sometimes. Each character's turn is day-based; that is they each have one day to play. What I've noticed is that the characters I really love tend to have 12 hours of play time on their days while the ones I am iffy about average around 2.

"Dinner time? But... but... I'm only 200 influence away from being able to afford the wings for Draconic Rage!"

"Well.. today is Shrapnel Storm's day to play... hmmm... you know... I HAVE been putting off that yard work for a while..."

I absolutely, positively, adore Taxibot Belle, on Infinity. I created the character waaay back when based on a really good friend of mine and tried to imagine what she'd say and do. Now, that friend is my roommate and Taxibot Belle got her interested in the game. For quite a while now, she's been playing Taxibot Belle herself, and I'm still head over heels for her; she does a much better job than I ever did.

I think that everyone loves Taxibot Belle. I kind of kid her about it sometimes, telling her that even though I created arguably the most popular fan site out there for City of Heroes, whenever we're together, everyone is like, "Wow, it's Taxibot Belle! And who's this Tony guy?"

It's really cool, though, because Taxibot Belle isn't just a character in a game, and I get the privilege of knowing her as a lot more than just someone who helps out heroes. She's a lot of fun to be around, whether she's teleporting you to an exploration badge or just doing something totally mundane like watching television. Even though I don't play Belle any more, the character is, in my opinion, the awesomest in the whole City of Heroes universe. She really is a hero in my book, and when I played her, watching people react to someone whose goal in life is to help out other people always kind of got to me in a way that playing any other character never did. I still spend a lot of time watching over Belle's shoulder as she does her thing.

I even wrote a story about her meeting one of the other Taxis a long time back, and I still get choked up every time I read it. She really likes it too, and if you know Belle and check next time you see her, you'll see that she still wears that badge all the time.

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)

A story like that can't go uncommented. Great writing and I really enjoyed it. A short story, with a lot to say.

If it's alright, I think I'm starting to love Taxi Belle a little myself.

When I choose to create a toon, I exercise great care in creating an origin, selecting powers, slotting invention sets, and so on. In effect, I craft a toon that I expect to play a great deal. Having a single toon always seemed the way to go because managing a number of toons simply felt more like work than play. As I've said before, I want to focus on being a hero, not hero management.

My first toon was Johnny B. Quantum (Grav/FF controller), the techno/mystical hero from Galaxy Five set 1,000 aeons into humanity's future. That was a satisfying experience learning the game on my way to level 50.

Along the way, the GF took an interest that caused me to create my first ALT in the form of Golden Man (Inv/SS tanker), a scientist that had been researching subspace harmonics before accidently being infused with an entire civilization of subspace lifeforms, which among other things gave his skin a golden hue. However, the GF had to go cold-turkey after getting painfully addicted to the game, which was a shame. Still, she understood why I continued to play.

By this time, I'd teamed with Taxibot Belle on some regular Saturday Task forces that Gata had been organizing, and it was making sense to build Johnny Taxibot (Elec/Energy blaster). The development of a Taxibot meshed because Johnny B. Quantum could effectively combine ancient Oranbegan arts with that of hyper-futuristic technologies to create a "bot" that was, in effect, a new class of lifeform.

So I'm enjoying myself tremendously as Johnny Taxibot, and I don't see a need to create another ALT because he's effective in a variety of capacities, such as team support, crowd control, melee, range and so forth. And recently I slotted out a "covert ops" dual build that has been optimized for PvP activities (and proven quite dandy so far).

Long story short, I don't need many ALTs, and I have an earnest fondness for each of them. And I suppose that since I focus on just a handful of toons, I've been able to outfit them with about 90M to 120M worth of invention sets per build without much effort aside from regular play (missions and tasks forces for the most part).

-Johnny

I must entangle my own tale of character love with a big QFE on this one. I started out on Infinity. My namesake Fireforged was growing up in the days of Status_Crow and House_Call, when the PCSAR and the Taxi services were in their heyday, saving lives and transporting the hapless newbs (including myself) in Perez Park and the Hollows. Belle and the Taxis make me nostalgic about those glory days.

When new content emerges, I head home to Infinity. Fireforged has been my main since my first days, is my badger, and still my favorite character (despite being a Fire/ Tank ). He will continue to face all the challenges that Paragon City requires of him, until the servers shut down.

And whenever I come back to Infinity, I keep an eye out for Taxibot Belle on broadcast wherever I'm at. Badge/history tours, trivia contests, normal taxi services, whatever it may be. She is the single sweetest/most helpful/most vibrant person/character/avatar I've met in all of my travels across the servers. I've had the privilege of running several of Johnny's Saturday TF's with her, and not only is her breadth of knowledge about CoX extensive, she is a more than competent player, and brings an energetic optimism to even the most dire situations. If there were a Taxibot Belle for Mayor campaign, you can bet I'd sign up to canvas the city

And yes. I have, with several of my characters.

My "against all sensible odds" elec/elec/elec blaster.

My "force multiplier" Kinfender - teams are better with Kin!

My "obligatory catgirl" claw/sr scrapper

My Martial Arts/Ninjutsu stalker (people told me she'd never amount to much, and I'd not enjoy gameplay with her. WRONG.)

My Robots/Traps MM, who was renamed "Dame Demolition" at level 50 because playing her was like playing a pack of turbocharged nitro-methane-fueled bulldozers.

A couple of times. I have this weird form of One-At-A-Time-Altitis, where I will get totally hooked on a character and will neglect all the alts in my stable just to play him/her. It lasts for quite a while, usually a few months after they're 50 and have completed IO builds. Then, I'll find something else to get totally hooked on for several months.

The characters I've loved the most this way are probably my Grav/Kin Controller and my Fire/Fire Dom. In fact, I still bust out the Dom at least once a week or so (even though she's at 50 and fully purpled) just because she's that much fun to play. And the Controller is probably the most fun I've had 1-50 on any character to date.

Oh my gosh! Now I'm going to cry! What an amazing and sweet thing to say, especially about me! I just can't think of another time when I've wanted to reach out and hug someone so much!

I adore all of my heroes. Just tonight, I met a new hero who was trying to find out how to earn his cape, so I introduced him to the City Representative. He was so sweet, thanking me and telling me how nice I was. We're now friends, and I told him to be sure to let me know if he has any more questions.

I never cease to be amazed at how gracious and kind the heroes can be. I've had several contests over the years, and in every one, there are always at least a few heroes who tell me when they win a prize, "It's okay, I have plenty, just give it to the next person who gets a question right." Can you imagine that? Volunteering to give up your prize so that someone else who can use it more can have it! And then there are nights like tonight when the Taxis needed help in an alternate dimension of Atlas Park against some villains, and we had two full teams of heroes in no time!

I love my job so much. If I weren't a Taxi, I just don't know what I'd do. (Actually, I'm hoping that someday maybe I can take Ms. Liberty's place if she ever decides to retire! Can you imagine? I'd get to meet so many new heroes every day, and I LOVE <3 <3 <3 meeting new heroes! I probably wouldn't make a good mayor, though, but I sure do appreciate the offer in case I decide to run someday!) You know what my favorite part is? I mean, other than meeting so many new heroes? When a hero who is really high in security level comes up to me and says, "Hey, I remember you, we met my first week of being a hero. You really helped me out, and years later, I still remember that!" I just get all gooey inside.

Anyway, Tony asked me to look at this thread, and I'm so glad I did. You and he and the others who replied just made my night, probably my week, and maybe even my whole month! You know what's funny? People sometimes ask me, "Why do you do what you do without getting paid?" My answer is always the same. "What do you mean? Just because I'm not earning influence doesn't mean that I'm not getting paid!" Every time I see a message like yours, that means more to me than all the influence in the world.

Thank you so much!

Yay, Infinity Taxis!!!
Try my City without Taxis story (1679) if you get a chance and let me know what you think!

I fall in and out with my various characters....I'll play one almost exclusively for a while, then maybe make and alt, and play them almost exclusively for a while...until someone mentions TF, then I turn into a badger. There are an obvious few who I really like a lot, and have gotten artwork of, so they kinda stand above the rest, I guess.

I'm so fickle.
