Dom Revamp on Test
[ QUOTE ]
That's a problem with the player base.
5 years in and people still don't understand the basic roles that ATs fulfill.
[/ QUOTE ]Yes. The problem is, everyone who plays this game except for you and your chosen few is in fact just stupid, and needs to suffer for you to continue having what you want, since you're such a valuable contribution of a minority.
Woah dude. I was just asking a question, no need to nerdrage.
Ya, I tested the changes tonight a bit. Took my Earth/Fire against a +1 EB which went smoothly. Then rolled a Mind/Energy Dom and took him to level 5 running Burke's arc. Was a really fun experience.
I'll drop my feedback in the Main Thread once I get on Live to do the same missions for comparison.
Yep, so shut yo face.

I can't imagine why the devs wouldn't want to communicate more with us as a community.

I'm a bit cranky tonight, my bad.

Really? I can think of a few reasons.

I was excited about the changes the minute Castle posted them. I used to not like the idea of removing the bonus from Domination, but after I thought it over, maybe that's just what we needed. I didn't say anything because no one else seemed to agree. >.>;
[/ QUOTE ]
Needless to say, removing it was a MUCH better solution than reversing it. (That is, doing less damage IN Domination)
[/ QUOTE ]
If THAT had happened I would mutiny. What we got is a great change.
My Psi Scream does more damage than my PSW now. I wish Psi Scream was a PBAOE or A TAOE. That's a big deal to change a cone but it blows and it makes its use kinda hard with the other powers in the set.
The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

Thank you.
Finally... recognition.
Please forward this to Castle.

I wasn't nerdraging. I'd have to be upset to do that. Just don't call people out when you have done nothing yourself.
I'm glad you got around to testing and I'm glad you are enjoying it.
Alright, I've tested my Level 40 Mind/Icy Dom on a few missions and all I can say is: SLOW.
... But that's because I've been playing Prototype and have forgotten what pacing is. I must say that my damage is impressive and that's considering how smooth this character is at ST. Plus only having to use Domination when I get held or fighting bosses is nice.
This character isn't built for AoE damage beyond Ice Sword Circle, but with the buffs I notice that even Terrify does better damage. Now I just need Frost Breath and to finagle +50% Damage Enhancement into Terrify and I'll have some good AoE damage going on.

Also, those of us with multiple permadoms can start trying other, potentially interesting things with their characters.
[/ QUOTE ]
Like what? Tear into regular missions? Farms? AE Non-Farm Mishes? Strikeforces? Been there, done that
[/ QUOTE ]I mean like soft-capping defences on dominators. I mean like building for damage buffs or massed hit points. I mean doing anything other than chasing recharge.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ultimately you have to weigh the value of the high mag mez domination adds, along with having aoe controls up more often.
ime a perma dom is as safe or safer than a soft capped squishy. Through active defense they can usually achieve near 100% mitigation compared to a +def build.
The high rech of perma dom also means those high dpa attacks are up more often which will generate more damage than a +dam build.
High rech also means domination end refill more often to fuel the new higher dpa, higher burst end attacks.
Also the added bonus of full mez protection incase the 100% mitigation dips for w/e reason.
Perma dom will still be the most powerful overall build to chase. However, from a min/max you might move on to other bonuses once you've hit say 80% global rech rather than pushing it well over 100%.
Hitting perma dom is easy if you have the money and many live perma doms still have very handsome +dam bonuses, or +hp. I generally don't see +def dom builds, but outside of a few corner cases perma dom will still trump it.
[ QUOTE ]
thorns will still be an AOE set,
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, but a sub-optimal one due to its unusually low DPE on its area attacks and its highly-resisted PvE damage types.
and btw, if you want +def you can still team to get some +def buff..
yeah i know, teaming is a silly idea
[ QUOTE ]
HOW DARE YOU SUGGEST WE TEAM!
[/ QUOTE ]
doms aren't meant to team. Just look at the way they are structured now
just kidding, but kinda serious.
yeah.. sadly :s
New doms will be really awesome on teams. They might even be somewhat close to equal to a corruptor's value on a team. Not actually CERTAIN about that, but it's mildly possible.
[ QUOTE ]
We know who doms have to appeal to to become popular and it isn't people that have already ran the AT up to 50 several times, nor is it people with extensive knowledge of IO'ing out the various kinks of a build.
[/ QUOTE ]
FWIW, I have one Dom, and he's level 30. He's been level 30 for about two years.
As the changes stand on test, he's a lot more likely to hit 50 before the sun goes out now, even though he was /Psi, and arguably a far better min/max before these changes.
[ QUOTE ]
Others have already said it a bit, but outside of /energy the t1 blast should probably be 4 sec and the t2 8 sec.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've tentatively agreed with the people saying that, for the sake of improving the low-level "feel".

In raw number crunching, it's not likely, though it does depend somewhat on what powersets the Corr has.
The biggest difference a Corr brings to things that helps them outshine nearly anyone else's contribution is that they actually multiply the effectiveness of the rest of the team. If a Corr joins a team of 7 other ATs and boosts, say, their DPS by 20%, that's like adding the DPS of 1.4 additional characters' to the team. That's above and beyond any direct, non-multliplying benefit the Corr brings from their own attacks, and not counting that they might be able to multiply those as well.
A Dom's primary unique capability is wide-area lockdown. It's a very potent ability and I think nearly any team will notice some difference with it in play against non-AV-style foes. It's not the only way a team that charges around headlong can get improved survival, though.
Note that I don't build characters or teams on the basis of the above observation. In my experience, unless you're dealing with what I'll call a "performance bigot", most teams are willing to accept a character if they feel it brings something strong to a team. With good controls and now much more respectable damage outside of Domination, I think Doms will have wider team appeal, mostly just on the damage increase.
We shall see.

I remember when IOs were just about to come out, I was a virtually lone voice in saying, "Hey! I'm putting Defense on my Dom!" And I did, and I saw it, and it was good.
Now I'm saying, "Hey! Im putting +Damage on my Dom!"
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah I'm thinking of activating the dual build on my doms and making a +Damage +End one and fore go perma on that build then if things get tough in a mish, duck out and make a fast change.
