What's the point of stone?

Hey, so I was thinking the other day and it seems like stone is almost pointless nowadays besides for pure cosmetics of the set.

With new sets these days like shield and WP, players can get good roundabout defense. Stone gives good defense with a little defense but it also greatly decreases the players speed (last I knew, this mighta changed).

In my mind the only redeeming factor is the granite armor. So I'm just wondering, is there something that I'm forgetting about stone that makes it really good or is it really just that stone defense is getting left in the dust by new and better sets?

Yeah except for its looks, Stone sucks.

I'll bite =D

Nothing in the game can approach or top a stone tank from sheer toughness. The closest is inv and even then it can't for more than 3 mins at a time with a brutal crash.

Is that necessary in the game? Probably not, but there are a large group of players that like being the toughest of the tough.

Re: The penalties. Wasn't there just another thread recently where the argument was that it was too easy to get past all of the penalties with IO's? You can get around virtually all of the penalties. It's not as easy as just dumping SO's into a tank and calling it a day, but it can be done even on a budget.

The only redeeming quality is being the toughest thing in the entire game (accessible to players). Depending on how you look at it, Stone has always been 'left in the dust'. It has never been super-popular because of the limitations on granite.

Not really. we could turn it into a BBQ thread, since there really hasn't been a Taunt debate in a while.

Or we could threadjack it into a Taunt debate, and then threadjack THAT into a BBQ thread.

I don't think Stone armor is being left behind, I just think everyone likes to try out the new shiny powers for a while to see what's up with them.

Yes there can be some limitations to Granite armor, but by using IO's and set bonus' you can get around most of those limitations if not all. If you slot the set properly you become the biggest baddest Tank of the game and can take massive alphas that would crumple other sets. I think biggest thing people get hung up about is Granite's visual look, which in the end is really a minor thing.

I prefer a nice rich BBQ sauce with a hint of garlic and a healthy dose of Sarachi sauce mixed in for a nice bite.

Stone is quite a fun set to play out of Granite. I have Granite Armor on my Stoner, but I also have all 4 of the other armors. I use Granite primarily in large team situations, AVs, GMs, etc, when straight uber-ness is called for. When I solo, or run in smaller groups, I rarely ever even turn Granite on. Its fun to mix and match the various armors depending on what I'm fighting, and the eclectic mix of resist and def make it a very entertaining set to play.

I think you are failing to see that the Sarachi is a chili sauce nublette.

Honey isn't a bad choice if you're going for more of a honey BBQ. I've tasted some nice BBQ sauce that included Saffron as a seasoning as well. As always YMMV

Yeah but tankers don't need more damage.

Thats pretty much how I am playing my DM/Stone brute. The down side of being out of granite is I have to run rooted and the run speed is terrible.

Sometimes I do run solo out of granite just for kicks but usually I teleport mob to mob with rooted and whatever armors I need on.

O_o;;

What kind of budget? Because I've not seen one that doesn't involve multiple Gift of the Ancients and Luck of the Gambler globals to manage it.

IO builds of other sets can become significantly as survivable as a stone tank with SOs. I do not see this as a particular problem, myself.

Ugh. I went to reply and realized I was nerf baiting stone armor for enabling the 54 boss ae farms.

[/ QUOTE ]We used to have Chilli's out here, then one day, poof, they just vanished. Like, no major news, no 'Oh, the business is in trouble,' just poof, the signs were pulled down and the restaurants emptied. It was really quite surreal.

My Tank doesn't even use GofA or LotG to get either +recharge or +speed because he doesn't need them.
