What's the point of stone?

It's not as easy as just dumping SO's into a tank and calling it a day, but it can be done even on a budget.

[/ QUOTE ]

O_o;;

What kind of budget? Because I've not seen one that doesn't involve multiple Gift of the Ancients and Luck of the Gambler globals to manage it.

[/ QUOTE ]

Gift of the Ancients is pretty cheep in my experience (at least on Freedom and Virtue where I've leveled my stoners). Even so 3 slotted swift will do wonders for your run speed... plus slotting other set bonuses with +run speed. Of the penalties the run speed was the easiest to overcome IMO. I think I originally only had 1 GoTA's, 3 slotted swift, and maybe 1 bonus +run from a set and was somewhere around 20+ run speed in granite.

There are a lot of full set options that will give you +rech that don't involve LoTG. Set bonuses plus hasten will get you a long way. It's been a while since I started collecting LoTG's but I think I easily was up to -28% rech before even a single LoTG without hasten up which is pretty reasonable for tanking. I had no clue what I was doing with that first stoner too so I'm sure if someone really tried they could get even better without a single LoTG.

Put it this way... neither one of my stoners had any other toons feeding them influence, and neither one ever ran a farm and both were able to overcome the penalties to be quite fun with just what they made on the way up.

The markets are cross-server. And if people think GotA's expensive, they must think SOs are expensive. Seriously, whenever I get those +runspeed IOs it's like I didn't get a drop. D:

I've played a stone tanker to 49 now and with all the sets I put in at 47, I've found that I can nearly normalize recharge speed without hasten. Run speed isn't an issue since I just teleport all over the place.

So whether you slot IOs to get around the penalties of Granite or slot IOs in a different powerset for extra defense/resist, what's the difference?

I've seen a Fire/ tanker run into packs of mobs with heavy fire damage and come out unscathed. It's just people knowing how to play their AT.

Have you tried the fire grilled quesadillas at Chili's, they're pretty good. The steak and portobello is still my favorite.

Around the area I go for various purchasing goals, there used to be... uh... The pig one, Famous Dave's I think? Anyway. They had that same disappearance as well. I had to go to the area two days in a row and at some point on the second day, they cleared the hell out of the building, identifying signs, their flamboyant delivery truck, it was all gone. The night before? Full lot.

Never ate there myself but the "now you see me, now you don't" change was rather jarring.

It actually works pretty well. Go into a mission, get a huge mob around you, activate mudpots. Take a nap. And then when you come back, everything is dead.

Haha this reminds me of a stone/stone tanker I rolled a long time ago when mobs could get inside of each other and if you hearded you could hit multiple mobs with single target attacks.

My guy never made it to the higher levels but I used to take a group around a corner, put on mud pots and rooted, hit 5 guys at the same time with stone fist and then come back in a couple minutes to my xp.

I was never saying that Stone is incredibly underpowered or anything. I just have been noticing a trend with the powersets devs have been releasing of them making powersets able to do several little things instead of how a lot of the powersets were at release being increadibly good at one thing.

I guess saving that for every laundry day "might" have some merit.

I prefer a nice rich BBQ sauce with a hint of garlic and a healthy dose of Sarachi sauce mixed in for a nice bite.

It's all about the honey and chille sauce nubcake.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think you are failing to see that the Sarachi is a chili sauce nublette.

Honey isn't a bad choice if you're going for more of a honey BBQ. I've tasted some nice BBQ sauce that included Saffron as a seasoning as well. As always YMMV

Yeah but tankers don't need more damage.

(If we're going to threadjack, let's get serious!)

[/ QUOTE ]

Of course they don't since they all just use Taunt anyway. Nub!

If you don't take Taunt then your not a tank and a burden to the team.

Tanks don't need taunt. They have gauntlet, taunt is a waste of a power pick unless you are going to use it as a holder for IOs...

That may or may not be true but it doesn't matter because Tanks are an irrelevant AT that no one plays anyway.

Both scrappers and brutes are mathematically capable of achieving tanker level defense numbers with TO's while still being unstoppable killing machines capable of killing the bizzaro world team-up of statesman and recluse solo in a single hit. Why would anyone want to play a tank? They should just delete the AT and move on.

Okay, Stone is all about just sheer unkillability.

Invulnerability can push these levels too. However, you need careful slotting of sets to achieve this. Stone can do this with just SOs and common IOs.

Now Stone DOES pay a price for this.

Speed. Teleport is almost REQUIRED for movement if you don't want to have to drop your armors before movement. This also makes opponents that like to run away an absolute female dog to fight.

It's toggle-heavy. The set is mainly defense-based and all the armors are toggles. This means that sappers (end-drainers) can *BLEEP!* your day up if they're ever able to actually hit you.

Now if you're on a team and performing the traditional tank role (standing in the center of a huge mob controlling aggro), this isn't a huge deal.

If you're trying to solo and achieve significant damage output as well, you can run your end bar down really quick. Even with Stamina.

If you are currently in a "toggle heavy" mode (e.g., not in Granite) on your Stone toon and you fear Sappers, you're doing it wrong.

I run 4 toggles when out of granite, and sappers are laughable with rooted on.

Exactly--Rooted gives 86.5% resistance to endurance drain.

Stone and Dark tanks are occasionally annoyed by sapper and carnie end drain, but not much more than that.

look, you can't be a tanker without taunt and you can't be a defender without heals. Anything else is fake.
