Fodder for the Canon: Ask your lore questions here
Here's a few, just really about the gangs of Paragon City.
-Just a quick question about the Skulls; just who exactly are the Petrovic Brothers? We only see them in one arc (Hellfire arc IIRC), but we don't really know too much about them.
-And one for the Hellions; what is the greater being that gives their leaders their powers?
After the Mu-Oranbega War, what happened to Ermeeth?
I also have a query regarding the Devouring Earth.
Specifically, has anyone ever been restored after being 'Devoured?' I started wondering about this recently when I played a number of DE-related missions and I felt rather sorry for people like Tanya Tyler and Pyriss (I found the latter particularly unnerving since it reminded me of Princess Jelanda's fate in Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth *shudder*.) We seem to be developing a solution to the Lost, so, maybe these unfortunate individuals could be next? |
I've actually created an Arc about the possibility of curing one of the Devouring Earth
I call it "The Terra Cure."

Greetings all,
This thread is being opened up for lore questions. This is the place I will start looking for each weeks Canon Fodder questions. I will work with the rest of the devs to put together as many answers as I can each week. The game is afoot! ~M Canon Fodder: Official CoH Lore Q&A |
I'm working on a AU (alternate Universe) version of Paragon and was wondering what the original ideas for the signature characters were. I'm already interviewing Jack about "the original statesman" who was nothing like the invuln/ss/incarnate tanker is is in the game but i was wondering what was "the original positron" or Manticore, or so on. And if the one in game is close to the original idea then i ask "if you could remake your signature character as someone complety different, a second start if you will what would you make them this time."

With the Archetype Walkthroughs on the COH homepage, I'd like to know if those individual characters are actually part of the canon.
A question about the Circle of Thorns.
Where are the females?
Redside, there are succubi that we fight, but I think their description points to them as being pure demon. Also from Redside, we know that the COTs will definitely possess a female body if it's in their interests to do so ... even if the COT was originally male ... (though if you're a bodiless spirit for 14,000 years how relevant is your original gender anyway?)
We also have rescued female hostages from the COT both on the streets and in missions.
Do the COTs who possess a woman's body give it the appearance of a male (either physically transforming it or giving the illusion of masculinity via magic) or are the succubi possessing female victims? If the latter, are the spirits possessing the female victims originally Oranabegans or creatures from the hellish dimension the COT are allied with?
If there are no female Circle of Thorns, what happened to them?

I've got a couple of questions:
1st: Regarding the previous post, besides female characters, Circle of Thorns redside also has Hellfrosts (Cold Demons), that haven't been sighted heroside... any explanation why?
2nd: According to your previous post:
<<Question: Whats the deal with Indigo, Crimson, and Viridian?
Answer: These three covert operatives all have the reputation of being among the best in the business. Early in their careers the three went on a number of missions together. They complemented each other perfectly with Indigos stealth abilities, Crimsons tracking and weapon mastery, and Viridians interpersonal skills and vast network of contacts. During their last mission together they were betrayed and almost captured. Viridian was seriously wounded in their escape, losing and eye in the process. He never forgave his partners and took his skills to the Rogue Isles to find the highest bidder which not surprisingly turned out to be Arachnos. Recently Crimson and Indigo have been working for Longbow but the true allegiance of covert operatives is always in question. Many experts in intelligence circles theorize that Viridian is also working undercover for Longbow. What that means regarding his relationship with his previous partners is anyones guess. >>
So... as it's been rumoured that a new AT will show up in GR (spy, or something like that has been called if I'm not mistaken); would these 3 covert operatives have anything to do with it?

OK I have a question based on some RP with my villain group.
Keeping this in the simplest of terms... How would Lord Recluse react to a MAJOR villain assault on Paragon City? In my VG's case we're talking 4 meyhem mishes in a row run with the entore map cleared in each case.
The general concensus elsewhere on the forums was as long as he had plausible deniability, he wouldn't care & would probably be happy with it. HOWEVER, in my group's case the offenders were all essentially Arachnos poster children/flag wavers. Addenda here; they also RP'ed the raids as exceptionally violent; wanting to send a message to the city. This tied things directly to Recluse, and my assumption is he'd be... rather upset over it. My reasoning being that while he IS extremely powerful, he knows that he & the Rogue Isles couldn't withstand a major counterstrike/invasion lead by heroes. Wanton wholesale destruction tied directly to him risks a reaction similar to that immediately following 9/11.
Is my reasoning sound here, or is Recluse less of a chess player and more of an egomaniac than I'm perceiving?

following the same vein i have a MA arc where the Rikti won the invasion of 04, took over Paragon and now 5 years later are heading for the rogue islands.
How would Recluse react to that scenerio? |
If anyone is going to rule the world, it's going to be him. Even if it's a blasted, scarred wasteland.

Besides, he has access to portal technology. He could (and probably has) found a nice little alternate dimention he can retreat to and set up shop.
Recluse has always seemed to me to be very Luciferian. You know Milton's famous quote
"Tis better to rule in Hell than serve in Heaven" (maybe not right but you know the one I mean)

Question for the Lore Masters: Will the Council and Fifth Column storylines ever be separated and clarified in game?
What brings this up is I just ran a Citadel Task Force, and the final boss is Vandal. Vandal's biography states that he was found by Requim for The Council in the 1930's / 1940's.
However, back in those days Requim was part of the 5th Column. The Council Overthrow didn't take place until just a couple (years) ago in Paragon's Timeline.
I'm pretty sure that most people know why the Council / 5th overthrow occurred by now. NCSoft / Cryptic were nervous about an obviously Nazi-like enemy when making the European launch. Now, with 5 years behind the game, such concerns seem to be minimal.
So, does this mean that the game will be re-adjusted to account for the re-introduction of 5th Column? Will Citadel's TF be modified to take place against 5th column? Will Vandal's story be modified further where he's not going back to the 5th Column?

i wonder what the devs have up their sneaky sleeves....
I have a question. This has been bothering me for almost as long as I have been playing actually. Does Ms. Liberty die at the end of Lord Recluse's Strike Force? Because, she looks dead, and Statesman is eulogizing her and swearing revenge. But, obviously she is still in Atlas Park, and has been used in other content since Issue 8 when the LRSF debuted. So what happened there? Did she get a rez? If so all the angst on the part of Statesman seems really superfluous, after all he's been in the hero buisness long enough to know death isn't typically the end of the story. His reaction only fits if there is a genuine chance Megan might not be getting up.
So, what's up with that?
Thanks,
-Blood Spectre

So when put into the above perspective, he took it pretty well.
This is also exactly why I am not a hero.

In canon, about how powerful are the signature heroes? I ask because I have a "powerful" character I play frequently, but I don't want to pretend that she's stronger than notable heroes like Back Alley Brawler or Statesman. Or the various Giant Monsters that roam around destroying things.
I'm curious about things like, could Back Alley Brawler easily lift a semi truck? Can Statesman withstand the impact of an anti-tank missile? Can Synapse break the sound barrier? Could Positron flatten a city block? Some notable heroes like Superman seem to have no limits on things they can do, since Superman is seen moving the planet around from time to time. How do the canon heroes and villains fare?
Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.
