Fodder for the Canon: Ask your lore questions here

Been playing villains lately, and I have a few questions about Longbow.

Q: Are there any female Ballistas? I haven't seen any that I can recall.

Q: Are the Ballistas powers inherent or part of their uniforms? If they are inherent, why does every Ballista have the same powers?

Q: Are the Longbow Wardens mutants or given powers by Longbow?

Hello again,

This week we have an action packed Canon Fodder post! Not only are some amazing facts about Blue Steel being revealed but I'm also posting a very small piece from the actual Story Bible to answer a question...and hopefully help answer some doubts as well.

Tally ho!

Question: I just pretty much want to know anything and everything there is about Blue Steel, such as how did he come by his powers, why is he not a registered super hero (instead of working for the police)?
Answer:
Blue Steel grinds his coffee with his teeth and boils the water with his rage over Tub Ci’s release.
Blue Steel didn’t come by his powers; he sprang full grown from the forehead of Zeus ready for battle.
Blue Steel doesn’t sleep. He waits…for another crack at the Clockwork King.
Castle and BABs put Shield Defense in the game because Blue Steel told them to…or else.
Blue Steel has no Secondary powers. All his powers are Primary.
If you can see Blue Steel, he can see you. If you can't see Blue Steel, you may be only seconds away from defeat.
Blue Steel doesn’t register as a hero. The city registers heroes so Blue Steel doesn’t have to take them down.
Blue Steel told Statesman that PPD trumps FP and Statesman shut up.
Blue Steel destroyed the periodic table, because the only element he understands is the element of surprise.

(I consulted with Ray Snyder, the dev who plays Blue Steel, and he informed me that Blue Steel is a Martial Arts, Shield Defense Scrapper but…Blue Steel doesn’t need an Archetype. Blue Steel *is* an Archetype)

The CoH story bible really does exist. Between heroes and villains it’s well over 600 pages and growing. We started it to help keep things in our massive game straight. We try to keep everything consistent between the game, the web, and our ancillary products but over a hundred different people have worked on CoH at this point and it isn’t always easy

Ever thought about packaging this up in a neat, straightened
format, along with accompanying art works?

This is the sort of thing people like me who aren't really all that
hot on the boosters and such, would love to buy.

Uggh the rest was fantastic espically the story bible, but rehashing old chuck norris jokes that have been lingering as blue steel joke in forums posts for almost as long sunk the creatvity down to what should be generic'd.
I suppose there might be ten or so people on the internet who hasn't heard them before.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

What is Arachnos digging for outside the walls of Grandville?

What exactly did the water of the Well do to Recluse? It's clear that Statesman got the powers of a god, but what powers did Recluse get? Most of his powers are pet summons or come from his arms... Did the arms start to grow from the powers of the Well? I can imagine a funny scene where the two of them drink and Recluse starts growing arm stubs.

...I forgot what experience means.

I can answer this one, a bit anyway. Recluse absorbed the essence of Tartarus from the Well..How that equals what he has as a mastermind powerset, idk.

In the novel Web of Arachnos Recluse claims to have forced the powers shaping his body to grow the legs through force of will.

Before everything in his life melted away, Ingelbert Maahs was well on his way to becoming the most famous explorer of his time. His advanced degrees in Geology and Archeology combined with a thirst for adventure to create an adventurer without peer. After leaving school, Maahs used his skill and influence to put together expeditions that uncovered lost treasures; brought to light scientific facts and benefited all those involved. His partner throughout this early success was his best friend, Marcus Janssen. Maahs had a keen eye for his craft but there was one thing that he overlooked...jealousy. Janssen was frustrated by all the credit that Maahs was receiving for their efforts. He began to plan a way to take his colleague out of the picture.
1.1.1.2 A Dark Turn
Since he first dreamt of being an explorer, Ingelbert Maahs had a Holy Grail. When he was a young boy he found his first reference to the Cavern of Transcendence. It was vaguely mentioned in a book that Ingelbert found while prowling the library. He searched for information about it his whole life, but few details were available. Over the years he was able to determine that the Cavern was underground

[/ QUOTE ]
No doubt it was his advanced degrees that allowed him to determine that a CAVERN was UNDERGROUND! muahahahahahaha

Okay, yeah, a cave can be above 'ground level', but still, that line just jumped out at me.

Whoa... Not only was my Igneous question addressed but it actually prompted Manti to finally give us a glimpse of the legendary story bible! I'm quite honored! Shame the Devouring Earth thing wasn't directly addressed but it sounds like they don't have anything to do with the Igneous despite what the Recon Officer for the Hollows says.

Fun fact: The minion and lieutenant versions of the Magmites ARE actually in-game, although you never fight them. You can put them in a custom group if you want to see them, though. You'll find out pretty fast why they removed those ones and made the minions and lieutenants exclusively Pumicites.

Also, as entertaining as the Blue Steel "facts" were, I would have preferred some actual information on him. He's done several notable things but we pretty much don't know anything about him except his powersets and that he works directly for the police.

Just wanted to say, Sean, that most of us who have expressed doubt about the state of the story bible in the past have done so primarily out of frustration about how stingy you guys have been with the backstory rather than out of a true sense that it was vaporware.

That said, thanks for the glimpse inside. It would be really nice if y'all actually published some kind of Handbook of the City of Heroes Universe that would cover the known lore as well as the kinds of stuff that a "real" resident of Paragon City would just know, like the history of Miss Liberty (no, the single fact that she is Statesman's daughter is not a "history") or the stuff you mentioned about Doctor Science in your latest posting or what the world outside of Paragon City is like.

The river in the Hollows known as the Red River, and there is also a Red River in Founders. Is there some kind of error here? These are not the same river; they are in totally non-adjacent places.

Is there an explanation for this confusing situation? Or is it just the way it is, and all the locals know there is a "north" Red River and a "south" Red River?

Can you tell us more about some of the restaurants advertised, their food items, weather they are liked or disliked by the public, if any heros frequent them, if they are fronts for criminal groups.

Does City Of Gyros deliver?
Does Hester Fizz, that cola advertised in the Rogue isles, come in grape and orange? I know there must be something sinister with that pizza place, looked like it was owned by The Family.

I've always wondered but I can never find any info about this, so I figure I might as well ask.

What happened to make Dark Astoria the way it is? I know there's a plaque in game that mentions a vow by Statesman to restore Dark Astoria to the way it used to be, but I've never heard what caused it in the first place. I know the Banished Pantheon have something to do with it seeing as they're the sole enemy group there and most BP missions seem to take place on instanced maps of Dark Astoria. Love the zone, but I'd love it even more if we knew more about it.

Not entirely a "lore" question per say, but something I've been wondering about in terms of "characterization".

My question is two-fold:

Question:

1. According to CoX lore, the Freedom Phalanx carried on their normal duties during the events of the
Might For Right Act. Does this mean the Freedom Phalanx agreed with the mandatory service required (or "draft") on this or did they just not know about the abuses going on?

2. This part is more "what if" - suppose the events of Civil War (or something similar) took place in the CoX universe today. Which side would the Freedom Phalanx choose? Would they all be a united front for one side or the other? Or would there be some dissension among them?

Thanks!
