  1. Wow, I certainly wasn't expecting that. They sound great and the banter is as witty as always. I think it's definitely a fitting tribute to these two CoH icons and their creator. The fact that it's promoting SaveCoH is even better. I'm looking forward to part 2!
  2. I'm a little late to this but I just sent my demo file! Looking forward to seeing the finished product!
  3. Well, this doesn't bode well for the future of the game, though I won't give up on it yet...

I'm glad that refunds are being properly dealt with. Thanks for telling us what you could, Zwill. As always, you're awesome.
  4. Here's a few of my most awesome moments, though not really restricted by character. All of these were on the Justice server.

    1) Fighting most of the Freedom Phalanx and Vindicators (Albeit one at a time) in AV form alone on my bots/traps Mastermind and beating all of them except Statesman. Heck, I even was able to take on Ms. Liberty and Mynx at the same time and still won.

    2) Even though I don't PvP often, there were two specific moments of PvP awesomeness. With the first, I took on 3 tanks at the same time with the same Mastermind on the roof of City Hall in Recluse's Victory and defeated them effortlessly even though they kept coming back. I really did feel like an unstoppable supervillain then. Likewise, I dove into a brawl in Warburg after being summoned there by a friend and completely wiped out everyone present, including the friend. He tells me he still tells people about that today.

    3) Leading the defense of Mercy Island against the Praetorian Hamidon invasion. I kind of fell into the leadership position of the league and quickly snapped up everyone I could that was participating. When things started getting hairy, I started calling out priority targets and we managed to beat the invasion back. I'm still proud of the fact that I was able to help everyone pull that off.

    4) This one is one of the oldest ones but I think it's the most iconic one for me. Way back during Issue 1 or so, I was around level 33 or so on my blaster and had just exited a mission in Perez Park. Now, keep in mind that this was back in the days when Hydra hunting in Perez was a big thing. As I went towards the center of the lake, I noticed a bunch of very high level (For the time. They were around level 38) 5th Column soldiers standing there with a lot of low level players gathered around them at a relatively safe distance, though occasionally one got too close and got mauled. They were definitely someone's ambush that was left behind.

I realized that as long as those 5th Column were around, a lot of new players were going to have a rough time. Not only that, but there weren't really many high level players that passed through the area and channels didn't exist for people to call for help yet. I knew what I had to do, even though I was vastly outgunned.

I told the players present that I would take on the 5th Column soldiers and prepared for battle. I hit every single inspiration in my tray and jumped into the fray. Every single lowbie joined in as well. They couldn't harm the soldiers but they were certainly trying. All that ended up happening was that the stakes rose considerably. If I fell, the 5th Column would easily slaughter them all. Using every trick and tactic at my disposal, I did what I could to keep the soldiers focused on me, even though my health suffered for it. Finally, I prevailed.

The funny thing is that after it was over, one of the lowbies said "That was easy!" That person had no idea how close we were to failing but I was okay with that. All that mattered was that they were safe. I felt like a hero that day, having made the streets safe for younger heroes to patrol, allowing them to eventually become full-fledged protectors of the city. That moment, I think, was what really made it clear to me what being in a city of heroes is all about and ultimately helped hook me into the game for good.

Looking back now, I think that these really would have been helpful to MA. The YES/NO rating system would have made downvoting a bit less painful considering it only takes one YES rating to balance it out. I know a lot of folks probably would have been upset for a time about farming being "Dev approved" but really, as long as there was gain to be had in the MA, the farmers would be there. Acknowledging it and allowing folks looking for actual stories to filter them out would have been helpful.

It's a shame that these didn't make it in.

Also, First Post after a Former Red Name.

  7. Doh, I missed the fact that this was supposed to be just heroes and ended up sending my main (A villain) in instead. I guess you can disregard it, then.
  8. Wow, I just read through the entire Rikti entry and I'm impressed. Assuming that most of that history is still true, the Rikti's alternate history as well as their society as a whole is extremely fascinating. I loved the explanation of just how Rikti society operates and the origin of the Lineages. That entry even explains a few oddities in the Rikti War Zone content, such as Hro'Dtohz being referred to as "Wargod" at one point and a generic Rikti soldier calling humans "birth bodies."

I think some stuff has been changed since this was written regarding the Rikti, mainly the titles of the leaders of the Lineage of War: Hro'Dtohz is referred to as the Lord of War rather than the God of War (I presume that the Wargod reference was actually just left over from a point when he WAS called a Wargod) and the Rikti general we rescue is just called a general rather than a "Demi God." I guess the terms would be confusing if we didn't know the full story behind them, so the Devs opted for secular terms.

There's so much story potential with the stuff that was written about the Rikti homeworld that we will never get to see since we'll never get to go to the Rikti homeworld either... The Body Purists vs. orthodox Rikti society is a very interesting conflict and I could see content we could end up choosing a side. Seeing the fallout of recent developments, such as the outing of Nemesis' role in the whole thing, would also be interesting and could be the basis of the war finally being called off. Somehow, I don't think Hro'Dtohz would appreciate that, though...

Finally, it's funny how a lot of Rikti Earth's problems can be traced back to those three idiots who wanted to be gods just because they were armed to the teeth with plasma weaponry.

In most games, MMO or otherwise, the player usually feels as though they're playing in the developer's game. In City of Heroes, it's almost always felt like the developers, community team, and players were in it together; that this was our game. That speaks volumes about the people who collectively made up Paragon Studios, and why it's almost criminal that it's all come to such an abrupt end.

You and everyone else there has my respect and my gratitude.
This puts a lot of my feelings regarding how CoH is unique into words. I second everything here.
  10. If anyone among the player base can save City, I believe it would be the Titan Network. Should you be able to get this off the ground, you'll have my support.

I'll keep my eye on the alternative projects as well. I do not want this game to die, especially not in such a horrible fashion.
  11. I'm honestly tearing up again so I'll keep this short. I can't properly express everything I'm feeling at this moment...

Thank you for everything, Melissa. You've always been fantastic in every way and it's the fact that we had people like you on the Developer Team that made this game so awesome. As I've said again and again, you all deserve better than this. I wish you all the best wherever you happen to go in the future and perhaps, someday, we'll meet again. Never lose hope.
  12. I will try my best to be there with Mekk. He may be a villain but I think this warrants becoming a Rogue.
  13. Thank you for everything, Freitag. You and the rest of the community team were awesome. You deserve better than this.
  14. Mekkanos

    To all of you...

I managed to remain relatively in control of myself with all this news but upon reading this, I teared up. Thank you for being awesome, Zwillinger. You, along with everyone at Paragon Studios, will be horribly missed.
  15. I just managed to get one! I was afraid I wouldn't be able to since I had trouble logging into my Master account for a bit but I got it!

    Goodbye Horses

I'm ashamed to have been so late to this but I wanted to say goodbye to you as well, Arwen. You've done a lot for Justice, so it really is sad to see you go. It was good to hang around with you and talk about things in the game. I still need to get around the playing your other MA arcs too! I'll keep my character that's in Hammer of the Gods in the SG to keep it around, so that part of you will stay with City, at least.

Maybe someday, we'll meet again, even if it isn't here. Best of luck to you!
  17. I didn't know Lucas very well but it's still a very sad thing that he's gone. I know he did a lot for the community and he was a nice guy whenever I saw him post here.

Rest in peace, Lucas. You deserve it.
  18. Personally, I don't think this loading screen is bad (I especially love the Center's faded image in the background) except for one thing: Marauder's smile has got to go. It just looks silly. I would give him a determined expression with his mouth closed, personally. It would make a nice contrast to his normal permanent expression of RAGE.

Heh, I'd still love to have a rematch some day. I'm fairly certain you'd beat me, because I've gotten a bit rusty lore-wise but it would still be a lot of fun to do.
  20. I'm not going to get into the derailment too much except to say that while I'm not as bothered by the Well storyline as some of the people in this thread, I do think the game would have been better off if it was never introduced.

Anyway, getting back on topic, I'm sort of like Samuraiko in that it's difficult to limit all my various Lore questions to just one. It doesn't help that my mind tends to blank at the points where I actually can ask them. However, I would like to know a lot more about the Rikti, their history, their society and what life is like on their homeworld. I know, for instance, that they apparently killed off their gods (Likely by killing those who believed in them) and that there were some wars to unify the planet a long time ago, after which the Lineage of War had little to do but I would still like to know more.

That would be what I'd most likely ask about, but I'd also like to know about the Minions of Igneous (Especially Igneous the Magma Master himself), the Coralax, the Dream Doctor, and Rularuu.

Yeah, the Devs actually brought this up in response so something I said at the Lore panel at the most recent Player Summit. It seemed to me that the Battalion would be nothing less than an incarnate-level threat but they pointed out that even super powerful invaders have their shock troops.

I imagine said shock troops would be the various species that they had already enslaved by consuming their Well, such as the Shivans (I don't think they've overtaken the Nictus, though. The Kheldians get consumed in Twilight's Son's future, however).

I think we'll probably be fighting the Battalion primarily in Incarnate trials, sort of like how we mainly fight the IDF in the trials right now, but I won't doubt that they'll appear outside of the trials as well.
  22. Look closely at the message. Apparently, while the level of the rest of the team will be 3205312, Leandro himself will be fighting at level 1. Basically, everyone on the team will be gods EXCEPT Leandro.

Well, I guess WATCHING your team take out Tyrant with Brawl has its charm too.

It isn't exactly clear how that all comes about.
I checked the souvenir for the arc and it explicitly says that Serene's spirit possessed the Black Queen. This almost certainly started soon after she died at the end of First Ward. This likely means that the affair between the Black Queen and Pendragon was not part of any greater plan at the time, but simply worked in Serene's favor once she possessed the Black Queen. It also means that Serene didn't really have to do any extra work to infiltrate the Black Knights, since she simply possessed one of their leaders. It appears that she simply moved quickly once she gained control of the Black Queen.

As for Black Swan, she really doesn't have much presence in the arcs. She's supposed to be the reason the Black Knights are in Night Ward, as noted in both Lorn and the Black Queen's bios as well as some dialogue in the Eternal Prison mission, but nothing really comes of it since she never shows up in person until Belladona's arc. She really just serves as an excuse for the Black Knights to be in Night Ward, as it is.

I'm a little confused regarding the Apparations as well. I'm guessing the fact that all the Seers in First Ward's seer network were sucked into Night Ward might have something to do with why they're around in Night Ward and why they're in Mistress Maria's first mission but there does not appear to be anything concrete.

    Tron: Uprising

I was a little iffy on this series when it was first announced but that first episode definitely sold me on it. I'm going to be following this series closely once it airs.

I suspect that free will is going to be a major theme in this series. Aside from the obvious concept of Beck choosing to fight for freedom, not all the programs on Clu's side appear to be truly evil in this show when we see that they are basically reprogrammed drones in Legacy. We see that briefly when Paige briefly protests when General Tesler rounds up Beck's friends for the Games earlier than expected, but it's much more clear when the program Beck spares helps him rescue his friends.

I believe that either Tesler or Clu himself will realize that it's inefficient to have your soldiers protesting or helping the enemy, so they may end up finding a way to completely reprogram programs to be mindlessly obedient. The first victim of this? Quite likely to be Tron himself, no doubt in some sort of heroic sacrifice.

I'm pretty sure Golden Girl's just referring to this meme:

After all, the character does possess a sort of resemblance...

Weird how I never noticed just how smudged her lipstick was before. I knew something was off but I didn't know it was that bad...
