what is your favorite tanker build? and why?

He had Tough and Weave (I checked). Maybe he just didn't have them toggled? Shrug.

As for sets, he had *some* set bonuses but not a lot.

But he's not the first Fire Tanker I've seen get dismantled in an ITF. Sure its S/L, but they are large alphas. Having said that, most groups I've run that TF with have been the rush through variety, often times expecting the tank to be able to clean up their "wake".

Having said all that, it's been my experience that most (not all) Fire Tankers tend to build and slot for a scranker build over a tank build.

Yeah I agree, one of the main reasons I took SS was because of rage and the fact it would allow me to focus less on damage output and more on survivability and better slotting for defense and resistances from IO sets.

Coming back out of the woodwork after a couple years away from the game...

The very next tank I make.

My fav is my current tank its a Stone/SS/Pyre It's original design came from a friend of mine that proved to me that he was farming with this toon for a while a slow process but he can do a map for 8 alone and make all the inf when he wanted. i will soon create a story arc in AE as a dedication to all my fellow friends that have left for Eq2 maybe this will bring a sorts of a reunion and we can all game again as a long distance family like we used to... Look for Federation Guardian on freedom server if you need a Stone Tank to help on missions...

I loved Stone/Dark, the obvious defense of stone plus the AoE from dark, combined with the Fire Epic pool made for a great AoE tank that didn't die fast

Aubrey Scorch: on Protector: Willpower/Fire Melee. She has a taunt enhancement in RTTC, one in each attack power, and Taunt as well. No problem holding agro and she deals out tons of damage. Aubrey has Tough, and is soon to get Weave as well. Don't know if she will pick up Strength of Will...but it is an underrated power in my opinion. Just wish it could be slotted for recharge.

But my favorite tank is the only one I've gotten to any decent level so far, my Dark/SS. Resists out the wazoo, with OG to knock minions out of the fight while having them stick around as Dark Regeneration fodder, and, of course, Rage, KO Blow, and Foot Stomp.

I really haven't played a ton of Tank types very far. I liked my Fire /Axe. 5th(?) toon I made, back in I2 I think.

I took it thinking the Axe would mitigate, found I didn't need mitigation (then). Stopped playing her during I4 because I dislike burn herding, suffered in Burn changes and ED, but I stuck with it. Found Axe did offer some mitigation.

I'm still miffed over many...most... of the changes, as even the recent improvements to fire haven't been to my taste.... but none of the others have caught my fancy as much.

My Granite is the next highest, then Ice. I don't claim Fire/Axe is a great combo, end sucked for one, but Fire looks good to me, and I like Axe's feel in combat.

Doesn't /Dark have the least AoE potential of any Tanker set, with the possible exception of Energy Melee?

Stone/Ice, my fave, nothing ever kills me in any situation.

Granite is only a panic button.

Vitality - WP/SS

I love the concept of the Tankers role on a team.
WP/SS is another iconic build and is perfect for my character concept.

Being the powerhouse, being the one others look to follow, being the leader, going head first into battle to protect others.

Being a WP/SS Tanker is the only reason I'm still playing this game.

I love my Fire/Stone. He can dish the hurt and keep mobs on the burn patch so it can do its damage. And he's pretty sturdy too. It's the only tank I managed to stick with past the teens and all the way to fifty.

For pure tankability I agree. For SMASH I would say my Invy/Stone is the business!

My favorite among my modest roster of tanks is my WP/DB. With several area attacks to compliment RttC, she's able to overcome most if not all WP/'s aggro-holding issues. And because WP/ is at its best with a huge mob of enemies surrounding you, she's just plain heroic to play! Been at 50 for a long time now, and the build is pretty mature...can tank Recluse in the STF (albeit with a bit of help!), etc. I love this character for RP, story-related reasons...but I'd love her for the fun-and-effectiveness factor alone, were I not an RP'er.

My namesake (Dollhouse) was my first 50, an old-school firetank. I've accommodated the copious nerfs as best I could, and she's also fun and effective...but it's always been hard to look back at what she was and not have some regrets. Not that some or all the nerfs weren't necessary, but she'll always feel like a shadow of her former self. I have another Fire/Fire now, but she's part of a level-pacted duo...with an Earth/Storm Controller. ANY character feels like a walking god teamed with one of those...

Enjoying a baby Dark/Dark so far...that one has potential!

Ice/fire, man its just fun in so many ways u don't even know.

Ice/Dark is my most fun tank right now and the character isn't even 50 yet but such a joy to play.

shield/axe - soft def capped by 35 - good aoe kb and damage - fun to play - and so rarely die it's funny. way more fun than that boring stone. shield charge - if slotted right - without hasten - up every 37 seconds. it's the best tank i've ever played. you could switch axe for mace easily though - down to preference. Recently did an ae mission with 54 bosses - someone agroed 2 other groups and i was the only one alive. Still going 5 mins later when everyone got back after making a coffee or something. Sure - a stone/ could do that - but they wouldn't have killed more than half of a huge pack in that time.

Dark / whatever.

They suck end. They're expensive. They don't really mature until late. But I've always found them to be good fun, they can hold their own just fine if played competently, and the rare Psi factions are afraid of ME.

Well, actually, every minion in Paragon is afraid of me. That's one of the fun things about a Dark tank.

I loved dark armor from my scrappers enough to finally make another tanker... but I didn't like it as a tanker. Of course, my benchmark tends to be ITF's, which as a resist set it's not really suited to (fwiw I've got 25% unbuffed defense to melee, and tend to bring along purple insps - which helps tremendously).

I dunno. I was hoping I'd love dark, but I didn't. I also paired it with fire/pyre, which was a poooor decision from a "tanking" perspective.

(FWIW it clears wall spawns just fine, and with a oj or purple insp or two can be pretty happy in a crowd of bosses - just not happy enough to suit my liking.)

Dark/Elec melee... that'd be fun.

Shadow Maul, Soul Drain and Dark Consumption.

Add in Mud Pots from Stone (from the person you were replying to) and Sands of Mu (if available) and you have a pretty decent AOE build, for non-Granite farming fun.
