what is your favorite tanker build? and why?

WP/Fire is my first Tanker to hit 50. I created him and several other WP alts when I11 came out, and this one just took off to 50 like no other. He's tough, he never had END issues, and he pumps out really nice damage. I have terrible alt-itis, but this character went from 1-50 with very few stops in between.

Plus, the background story and costume really fell into place very well. This has always made a HUGE difference for me when playing different characters.

Please try my arcs:

Arc# 63910 "Why Do Bad Girls Like Bad Boys?" (length=Long, levels 40+)
Arc# 401500 "How to Be a Successful Professional Criminal" (length=Very Long, levels 1-10)

Inv/SS by a mile. It's iconic, it's in-game all around solid, and I can go from min/max to comic book with a build switch, yet be solid either way. I enjoy the way it lends itself to concepts. It's what comes to mind when I think Tanker.

Only one I have so far is a 50 Fire/Fire, I Use to feel like a tougher scrapper with a bit less damage. Now with 200+ million in IO’s and a 20% + Def and silly regen I can finally tank ( sad actually ) but what the hell , he is lots of fun now.

My favorite tank is the one I'm playing at any given moment.

Currently I've got a lvl 50 fire/fire, lvl 45 stone/stone, lvl 38 dark/dark, a lvl 25 sd/ss and a lvl 10ish ice/mace. (damned altitis) They each bring something different to the table to make them fun in different ways.

Since I'm sitting with a BS/Inv scrapper at lvl 42 I haven't gotten around to trying an inv/ tank yet but I'm sure inv/ would be a hoot as well. Maybe once I get the scrapper to 50 I'll make one.

WP/SS. Tank hard, punch hard, and never drop unless someone does something catastrophically stupid.

Too many alts to list.

I don't tend to play a lot of TF's so a reasonably tough but very hard hitting tank suits me fine.

SD/FM makes me feel like I hax'd the game. Too much damage for a Tanker, too much survivability to be anything else. I actually stopped playing him because I wanted something to be challenging.

Dark/Stone... He can control things so well. I feel like he holds aggro and with good endurance management he does a great job of what a tank should do, control a fight.

My single target damage is ok.
I have some AoE damage.
I love my Epic Heal.
I think he'll just get better over time as I level him more.

Hard to say, but I tend to like Fiery Aura over the other primaries. I'd have to say my favorite is probably Fire/SS/Pyre. Although... I'm leveling a Fire/SM/Pyre which is a fun build as well.

Current tanks are: 50 Invun SS, 50 Invun EM, 50 Fire EM, 41 Shield SS. I've deleted a 50 Stone Stone, 50 Fire Axe and 50 Invun Fire.

The Invun SS is by far my favorite. Invun Em would have come close but ever since the nerf to energy transfer, it rarely gets dusted off.

Current tanks are Fire/SS 50, Fire/Ice 50 WP/SM 41, Stone/Fire 46, Invuln/DM 44, DA/DB 43, Ice/Mace 36, Ice/EM 32, SD/Axe 41. Thats every primary and secondary for what it's worth. My favorite depends on the team composition and task at hand.
For heavy tanking I prefer the stone/fire, for skranking I prefer the fire/ss, for soloing I prefer the fire/ice. Dual patches are that much fun.

For me it's the draw times of weapons in general and the general anti-thematic theme to the comic book genre. Of course there have been Heroes (and Villains) with weapons, but by and large the only Tanker analog I can think of off the top of my head is Thor, and War Mace doesn't behave in that way nor looks remotely as awesome as say Walt Simonson's Thor.

Put the two together and ....

Same for me, just because it was my original tank and it gives me the chance to prove the "fire tanks are squishy and suck" crowd wrong every chance I get. It's also a very easy tank to play with lots of utility powers and great with managing aggro.

Human Torch and Hulk were also two of my favorite comic characters as a kid so it kind of gives me the chance to have aspects of both in my toon.

It comes down to my SD/BA Anna-Bell and WP/WM Jekens.

Although I'm leaning more to Jekens lately. Rise to the Challenge's to hit debuff, mace stuns, and Presence's Invoke Panic he rarely takes enough damage to slow him down.

Anna-bell needs more team play to really shine (nothing is quite as fun as a mob/scrapper mosh pit). So I only play her on the weekend when I know I can get some good PUGs. Axe's
knockdown is great, enemy's staring at the ceiling most of the battle don't seem that threatening. Plus Shield Charge is a blast, it's like what a Stone tanker tping into a mob should be like.

Invul/SS – 50
WP/SS – 50
Ice/Ice – 43
Dark/Fire – 37
Fire/Fire – 30
Stone/Stone – 19
SD/EM – 11

I would rank them from favorite to least:

WP
Dark
Invul
Ice
SD
Fire
Stone

I was away for 4 months during the release of SD, so I am just now getting into it. From what I have seen so far, SD might just replace Invul in the order above.

My Inv/SS is still my favorite build. The most versatile, most capable of doing pretty much anything very very well. Inv/EM is also fun, but lacking a Foot Stomp type power makes it just a little lesser for me.

Ice/EM was probably my most fun and exciting tank to play, as I made him waaaaay back in the day before Ice got buffed up some. It was total seat of the pants mayhem from the start.

Stone/Mace... I actually enjoy playing this toon out of Granite way more than I enjoy playing in Granite. Love the stacked armors, love the mace animations.

WP/Axe has been entertaining. I'm not ga-ga over WP like everyone seems to be, but its functional, and I do like axing stuff.

Fire/Dark has been a lot more fun than I had expected. Lots of good synergy between the sets. Cant wait a few more levels for Midnight Grasp/Burn/Blazing Aura action.

Shield/Stone is still just a wee one. I'll let you know. But, so far, I love the Shield animations. They did a great job there.

I have a lot of fun with my Ice/EM too. Although a little tougher then yesteryear's Ice Tanker, it's still a fun difference from Inv/SS tanking.

Tanker is by far my favorite AT based on Survivability and usually Theme.

INV/SS - 50 (my main since CoH Beta)
INV/EM - 42
SD/WM - 37
SD/AXE - 36

I've enjoyed /INV the most, the set is just incredibly tough, especillay now that they changed the Unyielding defense debuff.

Shield Defense was more for theme, but having experienced Shield Charge and watching the animations... I'm sold. It also holds its own remarkably well, thoughI'd argue not as well as /INV.

I have tried /FA & /IA, I didn't care for either and have seen very poor performance from /DA on ITFs so I likely won't be going any of those routes. I have seen good /FA & /IA tankers, but I don't think I'm willing to put the effort into it.

As for Axe/ and WM/, I like them both equally and they seem to do quite a bit of single target damage with Knockdown & Stun respectively. Warmace in particular is just amazing to watch "CLOBBER" someone.

I've only done /WP on a Scrapper (BS/WP) and as others have said it pretty much fixes any & all Endurance problems long before level 20. The RttC taunt aura can be a bit rough on a Scrapper however.

I've done SS/SD on a Brute (44) and it is AMAZING, even ifhe does 50% ofthe damage that the Brute does it'll be a definite toss up between that and /SA for the next Tank I make.

But ITF is mostly physical, thats weird. My fire/fire has 71% resist against that and 25%+ defense to range / melee /AoE with Multi-Strike, Titanium Coating and Red Fortune in everything. Even I new tank can afford a full set of those IO's as they are pretty common.

I tanked ITF many times and the only thing that mildly hurts is the AV

Yeah that is odd, he probably just wasn't slotted up well or maybe didn't have tough/weave.
