Maintenance
Devs - is it so hard to give advanced warning about servers coming down? I doubt this continual unannounced "server maintenance", sometimes on a daily basis, is really that urgent. Let people know what and why you're doing what you're doing. We pay to play this game, it's not free. Pay us a bit of courtesy.
Warhammer Online also tends to do maintenance on Tuesdays, in my experience. Giving me three games i have subs to that i can't access on those mornings. *twitch* Not that i've checked the others THIS morning. i was planning on play CoH today, so came here first to see if there was any info on why we were patching on an odd day.
Yes Yes Yes! Well said. Im sure there are MANY others thinking along the same lines as me and obviously you, Troll. Btw, great avatar. Like the way you write too.
Crypt Dweller 50 DM/Reg Hawk.eye 50 Elec/Elec Qwerty McDoogal 50 Fire/Emp(badger) Entity of Aq 50 MA/WP(badger) Elmo Glockenspeel 50 Stone/Stone BurningMInd 50 Fire/Kin Vizzerdrix 50 WP/DB
While I'm not quite as vitriolic as Part_Troll, it does irritate the hell out of me that, as an Aussie, I can't play during my prime time on a few nights a week - which tend to be the nights I *want* to play.
All this maintenance has cut my play time by at least a third, if not a half, recently.
But that's our lot for living in the antipodes. Oh for an Australian server with delayed maintenance...
Things are starting to shift towards "unknown" on the status page. Might be bringing it back up for 10est. Remember you can run the updater to apply the patch even before the servers come back up, save a couple of minutes.
Um. Abuses of AE? Well, if people powerleveled during that time because it was faulty, that isn't an abuse of the system - it means the system didn't work from the beginning. And farming? It's not a new thing - it's always been there. Nothing was ever done to stop it in PI. Perhaps the devs stuffed up AE - don't blame the people who play the game. They're all paying customers.
Ah - and also - about powerleveling. Go to PI and you'll see real powerleveling. How do you think those companies that spam us all the time to buy "new" lvl 50 toons in 3 days do it? Nothing new there.

Mission Architect has caused allot of bugs and bases still have bug issues as well. In addition the devs are dishing out the penalties for abuses to the architect system like power leveling and extreme farming. So I would imagine this patch is to ban some toons and remove from players badges that were created or obtained from these extreme cases of MA abuse and to put in place flags to catch such abuses quicker in the future. Read the newest city scoop article from Positron.

They don't have to pull the servers down to do this. They can ban accounts/toons/missions without any sort of maintenance at all.

Bannin accounts or toons in an account doesn't require the servers to go at all, however in order put flags in place, change MA badges and install new "banned" mission instruments to MA they do have to pull servers down, but that would be in addition to the bugs they are fixing as well. Base bugs still exist, like not being able to Click on your personal salvage vault in your base and other accessible things like storage bins. Bugs causing toons to DC and the "hidden" enemy bug may all be getting fixed, but who knows what they are doing since they don't tell us anything. We are just taking up time in the forums cause the game is down. : (
But you are all right, it would be nice to know that the servers would be down today. No idea why notification can't be sent out to let us know. It's kinda like the responses you get from gm's when you file a bug report or problem. You get a generic and vague response from them that tells you absolutely nothing about your problem and it's possible fix.

What id like to know is what this patch is fixing/changing. No patch notes
I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

I was told there mainframe got fryed and their asking all geeks/know it alls to help them sence everyone thinks they know what the gms are doing at every turn!

Agreed. Seems like it's a positron pet peeve or something. He seemed to drive that point home in the last city scoop. He said himself that it wasn't "unexpected" and yet did not do a thing to prevent it until now.
I14 sure has created allot of corruptions (bugs) though. My base has been corrupted 3 times now with different problems.

Maybe they're fixing stuff they messed up during the last "patch". I just hope that stupid Description error is gone.
START/Programs/Accessories/Games/Pinball I'm at 8.5mil so far.
Here are the patch notes for anyone that hasn't seen them yet
Mission Architect
The maximum number of tickets awarded per player per mission has been reduced to 1,500 tickets. Because you cannot get a partial reward for defeating an enemy, you may end up with slightly less.
It is no longer possible to unpublish an arc that has been banned, though it may be resubmitted.
You may now either unpublish, or resubmit an invalidated arc.
If your character is not eligible for any xp/influence/debt reduction rewards in a Mission Architect mission, you will no longer be awarded any tickets for that mission.
It is no longer possible to have the Mission Completion ticket reward be greater than the total number of tickets gained before mission completion.
The 'chicken tug' animation is no longer selectable for critters through the Mission Architect UI.

This morning's maintenance was due to a planned publish of the 18.20090422.5T build.
I've discussed this with the Community Team, and we'll make sure to update the Server Status page with planned publishes.
As a brief note, we started the publish/build deployment one hour earlier. The build had to be deployed simultaneously to both North American and EU servers, and there was some concern that we would be publishing during Europe's prime-time hours.
I apologize for the lack of an update on the Server Status page, and we will be taking steps to ensure that those maintenances and publishes are clearly stated on that page.
Thanks for the update, Falc!
Thanks, GF!
Thankyou for the committment to your customers Mr Falcon -- your efforts are appreciated, since the concerns are, as you can imagine, very real here in the antipodes

[/ QUOTE ] That really has nothing to do with the OP asking why the server was down on Tuesday, other than the disclaimer "Additional updates may be scheduled outside this time-period as needed."
And the person you quoted is just saying that since the extra downtime is planned... they are asking for some advanced notification and more information regarding the specific downtime so there isn't so much speculation and people aren't left in the dark.
Basically.. If they already know the game will be down on Tuesday for an update.. put it on the Updater the day before so people can expect it. Hopefully Ghost Falcon can come through in this regard.
Ah ok. I just feel the page is pretty self-explanitory "maintenace can occur at any time".
Sounds reasonable to me.
We KNOW it can happen at any time. We're acknowledging that, but also asking if it's POSSIBLE to get advance warning in situations where they know, WELL IN ADVANCE, that there will be maintenance. Not an outrageous request, I would think.

Maintenance window needs to be shifted
[/ QUOTE ]
No. It doesn't.
The planned maintenances happen when they happen because that's the time when most people aren't in on the server (off-prime time). Moreover, it's early morning in the US and mid-afternoon in the EU. The devs and the people chucking those patches are primarily in the US.
Asking them to patch during prime time (when the majority of their customer base is in) for anything other than emergency patches is crazy.
I can sympathize with the frequency of the patches biting you in the backside though. While they've added a major new (see buggy) system into the game, I can see how there's going to be some extra work getting it stabilized. But it's becoming more than just a LITTLE annoying.
Another Tuesday, another UNANNOUNCED, -EARLY- maintenance.
It's pretty hopeless. CoTCaveDweller says it's since I14, and I can safely say it's been going on sporadically for the last few months, and -constantly- since I14. Every Tuesday it goes down. Is it coincidence that WoW goes down for it's -weekly- maintenance on Tuesday? < /paranoia >
I wrote about this bizarre idiocy before. NCSOFT steamroll over the Aussies, Americans and other unaffected particles spout platitudes like 'it's their right' and 'it's in the agreement' and 'oh, they HAVE to have maintenance, dont'chya know?', whilst NEVER being in the situation of having their prime-time playing cut abnormally short -- we get it cut short ever single week, three or four or even SEVEN days a week.
Maintenance window needs to be shifted.
Australia and Japan are in the same timezone, I'm sure they're peeved too.
For all the NCSOFT-apologists out there -- save it, seen it all before. You don't care, and you laugh because 'only a few people are affected'. What you don't get is that if NCSOFT continues to treat paying customers this way, they will leave. Oh a few thousand aussies (if that) might not make an immediate difference, but when it comes time to shut-down the servers due to lack of population/game-closure (hello Tabula Rasa, I'm looking at you), you can bet that nightly hostage of game-playing time to 'random maintenance' will be a factor in people giving CoH the flick and moving to something with a little less chaotic maintenance schedule.
I'm writing here to support the opinions of others who ask the same things:
[*] WHY weren't we told it was going down early tonight?[*] WHT weren't we told the -reason- for the close[*] WHY are patch notes only available hours and hours -after- the event?[*] WHY is it important to do maintenance on a MOnday night and THE NEXT NIGHT do it AGAIN? Can't the stuff just go in -monday- along with the other changes?
Oh, and a big haha to the oaf who suggested that 'banning accounts' would require taking down the shards -- wake up, it's just a database,
SELECT "Offender" from <Server> MARK "Banned"
It's not rocket science, contrary to your frail grasp of computing technology.
This time, even the European boards didn't have any stated reason why it was going down, or what's going on. Lots of ruckus about the upcoming 'expansion' (i.e. money taking exercise).
