Going Rogue: Who thinks...

There's going to be a massive downside, such as losing all (or most) attained badges?

For those who are wondering, people are starting to receive an email from NCSoft announcing the new expansion, entitled "Going Rogue". Side switching and all that. It appears to be legit.

Why do I think that? There's always a downside. Nothing can ever be complete win.

I cannot imagine that there won't be some kind of "penalty" for switching sides. Now I don't mean that really as punishment but there has to be some kind of loss.

other things I could see:

loss of levels.
loss of influence/infamy
loss of temp powers/accolades

Might be best to wait for more information. Before we get our hopes up.

When they say expansion they mean this one is actually gonna cost money, right? Nice of them to send an email with a bunch of links that don't work.

The fact that they don't work, or that they haven't updated might prove that this e-mail is maybe fake?

Posted

Or that it was just sent out early and the website isn't going to be up till later.

They have done this before. Sent out an email first but forgot to update their sites. I was just making sure I wasn't the only one having problems.

I think it is a hoax.

I've never gotten any of the spoof emails that were going around a few months ago. I didn't get this one either. My email address is not listed on my forum profile.

There is nothing on the official website.

Hoax. Intended to discredit the game and cause strife and drive people to play Champions.

Pretty good hoax then since Castle confirmed it's not a joke.

It's not a hoax. They did this with a few other issues; accidentally sending out the info a day or two ahead of time.

Interesting turn of phrase "biggest expansion since CoV" especially since MA came out. We won't know what it is until they give Official word, but it does sound like a true Expansion, or Expansalone if they compare it to CoV. Which begs the eternal questions of what gained, what lost, and do you know the way to Praetoria? na na na nnna.. nana nana na.

Guess we fall back on... Soon®

[/ QUOTE ] Probably content you can't use unless you buy the new expansion. An expansion is not really the same thing a free issue release like we are used to getting.

Reading this email, it doesn't look like you go to the 'real' hero side of the game (if you are a villain) but rather to the Praetorian equiv., which is not nearly what I would want from 'switching sides.'

But then again, they are talking about a new alignment system, which they've already started putting into place with the 'heroic/villainous' tagging in Arch, so maybe you can actually switch. I want more details.

What would be nice is to be able to switch sides with no loss of anything you own. Not just badges, I'm talking about inf, enhancements and levels. Otherwise, you may as well create a new Hero or Villain from scratch.

But it would be nice to switch sides, and heroes can enter villain zones and villaihs can enter hero zones. And add a new alignment called Rogue, that allows you to enter both hero and villain sides. And not only can a hero become a villain, allow heroes and Villains to become the new alignment as well. Basically opening up the entire game to all characters on both sides.

This would be a very nice addition to the game and give us plenty of new content to run on our already created Heroes/Villains.

But even if it's limited to just Hero and Villains swapping alignment, this raises a few questions:

1. Will there be a market merger?
2. Will we be allowed to trade between Hero <--> Rogue <-->Villain?
3. Will all of the power sets be proliferated for all alignments.

To be honest, I don't know if my heroes would go rogue just for badges....Also not thrilled about having MMs in City of Heroes. Praetoria sounds exciting....the ability to switch sides...not so much.

Yes, this will be the next paid expansion for the CoX genre. The first (and so far only) paid expansion was "City of Villains", which was then absorbed into the general cost of the game and made available to all players.

This is what I'm hoping it leads to. The whole "Praetoria" chunk sounds like it could lead to "way" to change ethics in-game (say, you get tagged to help Tyrant to cement his rule over his world, and in doing so, your hero "falls", and vice versa), and once done, you'd be able to enter the opposing faction's zones. I love Beef's "Rogue" idea; even if I didn't get any badges, I'd just love it for opening the zones up, finally.

In my mind, I'm already seeing PVP combat in the streets of Steel Canyon. I can dream, right?

This has a lot of creative potential. Jonesing for concrete info, but what I've read thus far is pretty damn promising.

(And here I was, thinking I would have to write an Architect arc about Doc Turg's eventual fall to evil - he was built to fall from day one waaay back in 2004 - and now I don't have to. )

I was talking to a friend about the badging aspect of this today. I could see it going a few ways but the two that make the most sense is all your existing badges get switched to the opposite counterpart and you would have the potential to earn the "Hero/Villian only" badges or they would remain the same and you woulds have the opertunity to earn them all again as the "new you". I know they already said that each badge has the opposite "coding" in existance even if it's not in game because this was something that they were always planing for.

It really would extend the game for badgers to be able to get them all over again and have both versions of the badges.

The game, as it is, doesn't do that trailer justice, here's hoping for some good change with this expansion.
