But it would be nice to switch sides, and heroes can enter villain zones and villaihs can enter hero zones. And add a new alignment called Rogue, that allows you to enter both hero and villain sides. And not only can a hero become a villain, allow heroes and Villains to become the new alignment as well. Basically opening up the entire game to all characters on both sides.

This is what I'm hoping it leads to. The whole "Praetoria" chunk sounds like it could lead to "way" to change ethics in-game (say, you get tagged to help Tyrant to cement his rule over his world, and in doing so, your hero "falls", and vice versa), and once done, you'd be able to enter the opposing faction's zones. I love Beef's "Rogue" idea; even if I didn't get any badges, I'd just love it for opening the zones up, finally.

In my mind, I'm already seeing PVP combat in the streets of Steel Canyon. I can dream, right?

This has a lot of creative potential. Jonesing for concrete info, but what I've read thus far is pretty damn promising.

(And here I was, thinking I would have to write an Architect arc about Doc Turg's eventual fall to evil - he was built to fall from day one waaay back in 2004 - and now I don't have to. )

[/ QUOTE ]

You know, I was talkinng with my SG about this a while ago, saying how cool it would be to simulate Villains entering Paragon City like the Rikti invasion, for example, they enter Steel Canyon and their goal is to defeat Positron in Blyde Square, and its the Heroes Job to defend him. And have Positron animate and become a NPC. You could technically do this to all the Zones with NPC characters.

Now this would be cool!

There is the comment that switching sides bring certain rewards you can only get by doing that and that not switching sides also brings certain rewards you can only get by doing that. If these rewards includes badges does that mean we have to pick and choose which badges we want our characters to get now?

That's exactly what I'm alluding to. Enough of "they're all grey to me, no xp". Villains should have the opportunity to be villainous in the streets of KR or Steel. Heroes should be able to help the citizens of Mercy Island and break the Arachnos grip. All of this could be done with PVE, duel-format PVP, and zone-toggled PVP for raid events. It would bring the PVP aspect of the game TO the PVE side without being overly intrusive, and really liven up zone action.

I mean, how awesome would it be to be a new lvl 10, walking through Steel, and looking up to the sky to see a lvl 50 tank get knocked back halfway down the block by a team of supervillains who've busted through?

I would love nothing more than to see this happen! Just the thought of being a villain to enter Atlas Park and have a dozen or so heroes whack at the villain would be priceless and awesome! Thats all i will say about it

Not to be a killjoy but, I loath any aspect of the game that will require me to click the "no I do not want to fight your twinked out pvp toon" button 50+ times a day, much less listen to the "but wai?" and 13 year old trash talk tells when I do click that button.
Othwerwise I am truely loving this expansion idea.

If you PL'd to 50 just to get an "epic" thinking you'd be ber, you're going to be sorely disappointed with the HEATs, because the VEATs were designed so that anyone with one good finger and a braincell can rock the toggles.

Easy. Have a zone PVP flag toggle. If your toggle's up, your PVP accessible, and you hear enemy chat. If it's not up, you see them, you can watch the fights as you go kill your 10 Outcast, and it's just extra eye candy to make a zone more lively.

I wouldn't force PVP on anyone. I WOULD like to make it more accessible and part of everyday occurrence however, even if it's just from the sidelines, thinking, "Wow, that looks cool."

Seeing as we have no information I think it's a little early, but seeing how much the player base tends to love pvp, i don't think this is a concern. My guess is that if a villain is able to enter Paragon City it will only be as a reformed goody goody like the rest of the heroes. I expect open zone pvp would be HUGELY unpopular and will therefore not get implemented, especially since many people came to CoH because it had no pvp. Zone PvP is very high on the list of things I hate about the game that will not be named.

Again, I'm not trying to be a killjoy but pvp WAS introduced to this pve game, and was almost completely rejected enmass.

You CAN argue it was implimented poorly or you could accept the fact that a HUGE number of players (IMHO), the majority of them by far simply arent the competitive types who actually enjoy PVP.

PVP to me can be fun as long as its played with friends and not the ultra competitive gotta win types who have poisoned the potential of PVP being fun for all.

Okay, before this turns into a PVP debate: I hear you; not trying to force you to do anything; just discussing awesome perceived opportunity. Having said that, I'm gonna take the thread back on track.

OP: Dunno about badges. I guess we'll find out.

(See? I steered us back on track.)

I don't think if you go rogue you'll lose any badges. Everyone knows how.... passionate... most badgers are and if they were earned legitamately, I doubt the devs are interested in taking them away from your character.

What I *do suspect is that there will be certain badges you won't be able to get and you'll have to design your gameplay around the ones you really want. I know they've made mention of varying levels of going rogue in the past so that's where my thought comes from.

Well from reading the press realease I can gather a couple of things: First, they are going to introduce Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning powers. Second, I think Villains will be able to walk on Paragon City when they "redeem" themselves, turning good or rogue, and vice versa for Heroes who have gone Bad. Not to discourage the idea of all the zones being now PVP but from that concept, I think the game would stay the same in that matter.
Meaning there could be no pvp in zones like Steel Canyon or Port Oakes since "good" villains and "bad" heroes would simply switch sides.

There could be an advantage in a way that is that you would bring you archetype to the other side. Who knows what could happen with all the "good" MM there's gonna be or all the "bad" defenders that are gonna pop up.

Another thing is, as people have mentioned before, this is going to be like CoV or the Good vs Evil Edition. You are going to have to Buy it in order to use the new content.

I think there's gonna be a new zone like the Outbreak and the Breakout, so that you experience the new gray material first handed. There's also gonna be like a moral compass, probably like a meter were you earn or lose points, getting closer to being more heroic or villanous.

***This is what I can gather from reading the info they have sent us***

Also one other thing I can presume is the following: The new alternate dimension, the Praetorian Earth or whatever, will be a new collection of zones, like Paragon City or even the Rogue Isles are.

***Interesting fact, the ruler's name is Emperor Cole, but since States' name is Marcus Cole, we can only presume Tyrant has switched his name***

Yeah, a name like Tyrant makes it all alittle too obvious...

From what i can remember of the praetorian arc

it might be Emperor Cole to the people but the 'heroes' of the setting call him Tyrant

would be interesting to see the rogue isles done up as a bastion of heroes vs paragon city being completely evil (somewhat done in RV)

Only question would be what tf's Ghost widow / such give out

and well badges and more badges to say the least... not looking forward to potentially farming more badges that i've already farmed

Well providing we can keep already earned badges. There really won't be much to farm, just Mission/TF/SF badges and kill badges.

Only problem I can see with badges is accolades. Although, that can be fixed by having the hero and villain accolade awarded, but only one accolade power is awarded. It will certainly make certain accolades easier to obtain like Invader and Demonic compared to Task Force Commander and Archmage. The only serious problem I see is having to do all the Hero Task Forces for my villain badger. Quarterfield and Positron certainly makes a good portion of me want to stop this expansion from ever happening.

The amount of extra badges we will get will be phenomenal. The devs might have to come up with a 1000 badges earned badge. The heroes will get alot of new defeat badges and the villains will get a lot of defeat GM badges. Both will have to redo defeating the Recluse's Victory AV/Hero badges. A ton of exploration, history, and accomplishment badges to obtain. And that is just including current badges.

It might be just easier to scrap a main hero or main villain as far as earning as many badges as you can.

The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.

The fact that you can switch multiple times implies that you'll be able to get basically all of them. With the exception, I expect, of the Accolade powers, which have different requirements between factions. Maybe you lose your power accolades when you switch but get them re-awarded if you have the requirements for the other side?

Obviously they're not going to let you stack all the +HP/+End accolades from both sides, or have Magus and Demonic Aura, so something must happen there.

Based on AE I dread but foresee the following badges:

Changed sides once - Saw the Light/Dark
Changed sides five times - Waffler
Changed sides 10 times - Can't make up your mind
Changed sides 25 times - What am I now?
Changed sides 50 times - Schizophrenic
Change sides 100 times - Lost

To change sides you need to complete the new task force at a Master Level (no temps, no deaths)

Please no Positron. stop the water-boarding.

I look at it this way.. a Hero goes out.. earns all these awards, badges accolades, whatever.. then goes Rogue and becomes a Villian.. does he suddenly no longer have these awards? No.. it makes him all the more evil by having all these hero accolades.. Same with Villians..

Since MOST badges are just representations of what your character HAS done.. I don't see why you should lose them..

Accolade Powers are the only thing I would say you'd lose.. as each side has it's own version of said powers.. or you could keep your previous version.. and just not GET a power when you earn the new accolade..

I'd just e happy to be able to earn those Hunt badges that require so much farming to earn..

From what I can calculate, you might have another "build" but this build is your "rogue" build.
You can only switch between your Hero/Villain build by a rogue contact. I think of Robin Hood ..he was a Villain to some and a Hero to others. So at times he is earning Influence and other times Infamy...3rd party Enemies? You can earn both since you are Impressing both parties!!! The badge system looks like it is set up to handle both sides of the coin already.

I honestly can't see the pvp thing happening. Bored Heroes/Villains who didn't have anyone flagged to kill would start griefing by following low levels around kill stealing, that sort of thing. People always find a way. Remember stealthed characters hiding out in medical areas of pvp zones to get easy respawn kills? People suck too much to be able to implement it.

There's going to be a massive downside, such as losing all (or most) attained badges?

For those who are wondering, people are starting to receive an email from NCSoft announcing the new expansion, entitled "Going Rogue". Side switching and all that. It appears to be legit.

Why do I think that? There's always a downside. Nothing can ever be complete win.

[/ QUOTE ]

The little issue of having one of the dev's come out and basicly lambast the player base because we don't play with the game the way they want us to is still fresh.

Isn't it funny that the news comes out basicly a week after the little temper tantrum?

Pfft.

Color me impressed when they actually have something other then "we'll tell you when it's coming out..."

The last one that took tone with me in such a manner lost teeth the last time that happened.

What I find really funny is that "Farming" is so called "Frowned upon", yet they add yet another paid expansion without any sort of support to the villian side, yet Villians is a much more quality game in terms of scenery, story arcs, and general play.

"Going Rogue?"

I have a better idea, how about fixing the game so that some of the QOL issues get fixed and add some content to the Villian side?

Give a reason to play and people will stay. Continue with the shell game and keep watching them leave.

Nothing to do with badges... but I think we're getting snowjobbed with the xpac. Praetorian earth is all the same maps we already have, so it's not looking like we're actually getting any new content at all... just the same recycled stuff witha new spin.

[/ QUOTE ]Out of curiosity, what makes you think Praetoria is anything like the main Earth's Paragon City? The small glimpse we got in the trailer looks unlike anything we have in the game at the moment.

Or are you basing it on the small amount of standard map types that are supposed to be on Praetorian Earth, that was released in Issue 1 (I think)?
