From what I read it only gives you access to tier 1, 2 or 3 powers at level 6, so therefore I don't see how you can skip right to Acrobatics which is the tier 4 power. I would guess that the tier 4's still require two previous powers to unlock them.

[/ QUOTE ]

Just to clarify, the tier 3 power they refer to is actually the fourth power in the set. For example, for flight:
Tier 1: Hover and air superiority, which have no pre-requisites.
Tier 2: Fly, which requires hover or air superiority.
Tier 3: Group fly, which requires at least two other powers in the pool before becoming available.

So, essentially this veteran award opens up things like arcobatics without pre-requisites.

[/ QUOTE ]

That may or may not be the case. If it were the case they could have more simply stated that all pool powers in those sets would be available from level 6. It seems to me that they are using tier in the sense that it is used to refer to primary and second sets (tier 1 - 9) to refer to the initial 3 powers in each pool. Whether or not they are using the term in its accepted usage is another matter (one I wouldn't be up for debating).

To add to this, what makes you think that these powers would be slottable? Is the Vet-Nem staff slottable? How about Sands of Mu?

E_Ryu has the right direction. For the best benefit, one would take the requisite for the foundation.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't think they are talking about giving out special vet versions of said powers ... I would shut up on the issue immediately if that were the case (I may anyways, since i don't feel especially strongly on the issue). So far, indications suggest they are allowing early/accelerated access to the real deal pool powers.

Also, how does taking the prereqs matter for "maximum effect" or "setting a foundation". Not being sarcastic, I just don't know to what that refers.

[/ QUOTE ]For my stalker build to soft cap without tough and weave I had to get 4 travel powers sets. So I took the prerequisets so I could slot the universal sets.

Actually, it means you can SKIP taking the first or second power in the Travel Power Pools and, at level 6, pick the travel power immediately. No pre-requisites.

[b]Your getting access to the travel power NOT the 4th.

I wonder if the tier 4 power will still require that you pick 2 before it, or if it will only require that one?

[/ QUOTE ]

There is no Tier 4.

There is the 1st Tier (Where you can pick two powers).

Then there is 2nd Tier, which requires that you have one of the 1st Tier powers and 12th level.

There there is the 3rd Tier, which requires 2 powers of 1st and 2nd Tier and 20th level.

So I'm not exactly sure how this unlock works. Does the badge allow you to unlock 2nd Tier and 6th level along with 1st Tier travel powers? And then you can get 3rd Tier at 12th Level?

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually, I think everyone I've ever talked to always refers to a power as "X tier", where X is what number it is in the set. Such as Tier 1 & 2 blasts, for a blaster, can fire through mez. We don't call them just Tier 1. So tier 1, 2, & 3 for given pool would be all but the fourth power.

There are many of my characters that would love the extra power pick from being able to skip out on Combat Jumping, Hover, etc.

June 8th for me... can't wait...

Its a pretty big departure from all of the other vet awards.

I don't necessarily like where its going either.

Lol...it's not that big guys. Acting like it's some game breaking advantage is just silly.

How is it in ANY way a bigger benefit - notice the changes to PVP travel powers? Hm?

So... You get suppressed at level 6 instead of level 14.

Sheesh. It is not a game-breaking power to be able to *travel farther*.

You still have to wait for all your other power slots to open.

And hell - I'll be getting this for my birthday in July, and *I will deserve it*. It's a PERK of having paid for the game all this time, and enjoyed it all the way. I might even manage not to bork up another respec, or use the alt builds on some of my toons, in favor of these changes.

And to the 60s who claim it's a bad idea: you don't have to take them. You can still build your character the same way as always. Thus, eliminating any moral dilemma you might have from imbalances...

Imbalance isn't a personal issue, it relates to how everyone plays since we all play together (/cuePSAmusic).

There hasn't been a lot of cries of "game breaking" it's just a matter of what's a little too much.

Assuming one paid by annual plan right from the beginning, by 60 months, they'd have dropped $720 for this game. And if they paid monthly, that's $900 worth of dedication. Of course, this doesn't even take into consideration those hard core players with multiple accounts.

Baaaaaaaad. Can you dig it?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes. Yes, I can dig it.

Although it is too bad that they didn't give the option for all power pools. It would have been nice to get tough/weave without the throw away boxing/kick.

I'd bet money that a pack is coming out that gives you some very good travel power options in the near future.

As a 60 month reward I don't think its too bad. LOL, its 60 months, it better be good!

But to say its not game changing is a bit silly. It IS INDEED game changing.

I can already think of ways to make certain builds even better by simply dropping one travel power-pre req.

Ofcourse if you never put anything in your pre-req than the default slot then, yeah you really aren't getting much back.

With that said, what the hell can one expect for month 63????

EDIT: Also breaks the rule that vet rewards were meant to be little non-game changing perks. But personally, I don't think that month 60+ is a bad time to break it. Most folks, just by typical mmo churn may never get any of the 60+ stuff. LOL

Hell that's probably LESS than the folks who have 50s.

There was some speculation out there on the boards (rampant, unfounded, and injurious ... just the way we like it) that the rewards program was drifting toward retirement. I wouldn't be surprised it this were the capstone, as it were, of the program.

LOL, that would be one hell of send off, and would make sense.

I mean I can't think of a term for a person who goes beyond 60 months with this game, but the term veteran for such folks just doesn't do them justice.

I don't think you could really truly reward that kind of dedication with any kind of reward, it would make sense that 60 would be the ultimate.

And ya, being able to just choose a travel power (basically what this is) with no pre-req fits.

The next thing other than that would be being able to roll a insta 50. (Though if it were me that would be the reward for 80+ months.

:-P

Its game changing but not necessarily breaking. It is however a massive departure from what vet awards were supposed to be.

It is pretty big though. To say its not big is disingenuous at best.

Yup, it's so ridiculously game breaking for a regen scrapper to get QR at 4 and a WP tank to get it at 12. A handful of 5+ year vets getting stamina at 8 or 14, however they did it, would absolutely decimate any kind of balance this game ever had.

Hey, hyperbole is fun!

[/ QUOTE ]Stamina has a level requirement of level 20, and 2 prerequisites. Stamina is a tier 4 power. Health is tier 3. You'd be able to get Health with no prereqs, but you'd still have to have 2 powers and level 20 for Stamina.

I think they should just allow people to buy Vet rewards early. That way you can wait get em for free, or if your one of the noobs screaming DOOOOM!! you can just open up your wallet and pay $5 per reward.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's not silly at all, it opens up a lot of options for vets who have played for YEARS while the rest of us are screwed in that regard.

Anyone who has played a PB or WS knows how nice it is to have a REAL travel power at low level as opposed to a crappy knock off temp power.

People here, to my knowledge, haven't even mentioned what I think is truly game breaking. You can now take the pre-requisite to another pool, and then the travel power from another pool, freeing up at LEAST one power pick to take other things. That's very powerful. I can now take Hasten and Super Jump! Gone, for 60 month vets, are the days of getting stuck with Super Speed cause they needed Hasten but couldn't fit another travel pool! They can just mix and match now!

Also, if there isn't a limit to this, like, if they can now take Flight, Super Speed, Super Jump, Teleport without any of the prerequisites, they could stack the hell out of those sexy Universal Travel bonuses (not that I would waste all 4 pools on travel, but you COULD if you wanted).

This just screams of unfair advantages in too many ways to count. This feels like the devs lied to me when they said that vet rewards would never give unfair advantages, only perks... but that's exactly what this is.
