Discussion: 57 & 60 Month Veteran Rewards!
[ QUOTE ]
Massive, epic FAIL. Something so profoundly, massively balance altering as being able to skip a travel prereq being doled out as a veteran reward?
[/ QUOTE ]
Are you trolling? Anyone can skip power pre-reqs and pick up Flight (Raptor Pack) at 6 and Super Jump (Zero G) at 10 without being a vet. CoV character have multiple ways to get flight early and replenish it without using any power picks. This is a minor perk--if it is "massively balance altering" then the balance got altered years ago when CoV was released.
The biggest factor here is that Acrobatics no longer requires pre-reqs but given the changes to mezs and the increase in anti-KB options (inventions) even that is not a huge deal.

(1) Additional Character Slot: This reward is granted annually to each player that has been part of our Veteran Rewards Program. Months: 12, 24, 36, 48, 60 should all reflect this value.
[/ QUOTE ]
Does this mean we get 1 additional character slot for each year we've played?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes. I have all character slots unlocked on the only server I play on, so future year-mark Veteran badges won't really do me any good as far as additional character slots go.
[/ QUOTE ]
You have 36 characters on one server already?
[/ QUOTE ]
You better believe it! And I love all 36 characters!

*shrugs* so at 6 i can get a travel power instead of 14...isnt that what all the temp travel powers in the game is for?
we running out of ideas arent we

I think if the 63 month vet reward were Posi buying you a car irl, you'd wonder why he couldn't at least have put vehicles into the game.
[ QUOTE ]
Actually, it means you can SKIP taking the first or second power in the Travel Power Pools and, at level 6, pick the travel power immediately. No pre-requisites.

I love you guys. Seriously.
Can it be August now?

Now that i think about it. I don't have ANY character who will benefit from this... lol. All of my Heroes and Villains have Hover/Fly, CJ/SJ/ Acro built into their builds and they're NECESSARY. i couldn't drop Hover or CJ for the risk of gimping myself. Even my Empath Defender NEED's Recall Friend AND Teleport...lol. Man, this isn't as useful as i thought it would be for me.... Even if i took Fly at lvl 6, I'll still have to get Hover for my +Stealth IO and my LotG +Recharge...lol.

Temp powers do not compare to the real thing in any number of ways. Also, it's not about getting it earlier. I think there would be 1/10th the fuss if it was the ability to get a travel power early. The problem comes into play because a player can get a travel power without the prereq. This affects how people will make their characters all of the way up to level 50.

Oh gawd Ex.....just change THIS ONE and everything else is fine. I mean seriously....that's so friggen lame it almost ruins the coolness of the 60 month rewards.....we've been in this game long enough to NOT need this reward at all....besides, we get sooooooooo many free tailor sessions with other rewards already....that this is, quite frankly....useless to many.
[/ QUOTE ]and incredibly useful to some, like myself.
given how much i use temp travel powers, the 60 month vet doesn't really change all that much for me. but damn if it aint shiny.

I was moderately interested at first, and remain cautiously optimistic, I guess...but the more whining and moaning in here, the more I'm convinced these are awesome and I'm missing something.

60 month is a very useful, and potentially powerful addition. For many toons its essential and extra power pick.
I'm still 42 months away from it, but hey. 60 month vets are 60 month vets, they have earned it.

[/ QUOTE ]You still dont get it, being able to buy the powers via real money or inf in game means you dont have to pick a power period. That in itself is more game changing than this change we have coming.

Month 60 is... very interesting. I can see a lot of players whining that it frees up a power or two in a lot of builds, especially with more than one travel power. Huh.

From what I read it only gives you access to tier 1, 2 or 3 powers at level 6, so therefore I don't see how you can skip right to Acrobatics which is the tier 4 power. I would guess that the tier 4's still require two previous powers to unlock them.

True, but it's something that has never been intended for serial purchase (for what that's worth ... probably not much). Regardless, temp travel powers do not allow for slotting (esp. the oh so sexy universal travel sets) nor can they achieve the speed of pool powers ... they are just neutered versions of the real thing. Also, not to be forgotten, there exists no alternative to the pool superspeed or teleport powers.

[/ QUOTE ]You only have a point with Super Speed or Teleport but the other powers are not that fast to begin with so its not that big of a difference. Now for the travel powersets most people who are slotting those are going to want to take the prerequisets anyways so they can have the maximum effect.

To add to this, what makes you think that these powers would be slottable? Is the Vet-Nem staff slottable? How about Sands of Mu?
E_Ryu has the right direction. For the best benefit, one would take the requisite for the foundation.

Just a suggestion, can we skip the requirements for the Fitness pool now? I want Stamina at lvl 6! :P

I don't think they are talking about giving out special vet versions of said powers ... I would shut up on the issue immediately if that were the case (I may anyways, since i don't feel especially strongly on the issue). So far, indications suggest they are allowing early/accelerated access to the real deal pool powers.
Also, how does taking the prereqs matter for "maximum effect" or "setting a foundation". Not being sarcastic, I just don't know to what that refers.

Nowadays it is so easy to get travel packs by lvl 6, the travel aspect isn't that big of a bonus. What is a big bonus is that you basicly get a bonus power now on many builds. There are plenty of time when I don't really want CJ or Air Superiority or Hasten, but I am forced into making them fit to get a travel power....now I have one more power choice freed up. Good stuff. In 24 months I'm sure I'll love it.

I think the Veterans have earned an advantage over Non-Vet players because... "We've been playing this game for 4+ years" simple as that. The only obstacle stopping Non-Vets from earning this reward is time. Those players haven't played CoH long enough to earn this reward it's just as simple as that. Not all players or Accounts are created equal so those Non-Vets who don't have access to this reward need to suck it up. They'll get that power when they've earned the time to have it.
