You still don't get it. When a boxer steps into the ring, he's not going up against six other boxers of much greater boxing experience.
Open-zone PvP is a total loss of an idea for casual players, who don't go there often, don't have a regular PvP team, and probably don't have a PvP build.
I've seen PvP in a number of different games now, and I mostly have contempt for it. I virtually never see sportsmanship or fair play. What I see is greater numbers beating up on smaller numbers, higher levels beating up on lower levels, better gear beating up on lesser gear. That's just bullying.
If you've ever played regular sports, you'll probably notice how the rules are all about making the playing field as level as possible, so skill and strategy will be the determining factors. And good sportsmanship is strongly encouraged.
But not in PvP, which is about as unsportsmanlike an activity as I've ever witnessed, complete with nasty insults and gloating that would never be allowed to persist in a supervised sport such as baseball.
No surprise PvP is shunned in a City of Heroes.

What you look at in professional sports is what we like to call the Arena.
Zone PvP is closer to a pick up game at the local yard. You better believe there's a lot worse said (and done) there than what you see in here.

Ok, took a new build to WB on Freedom today to test a few things. I wanted to see how new PvPers that nobody knows is treated in PvP and wanted to also see how a build would work out.
Due to all the complaining I see on the boards about how PvP in this game is dying, I can tell ya one thing....you guys are not going to help populate PvP.
My findings....
Took a Elec/Kin into a PvP zone to test out the build. I am not IOed out, only level 37, and speced with SOs only, so I knew I was not going to pwn very many people, if anyone at all... So no big deal.
Was constantly ganked over and over. Any chance of seeing if my build was any good or not, was pretty much a nill.
Now don't get me wrong, I could actually care less, as I feel personally that PvP in this game has been busted ever since RV was released, and has continuously gotten worse since then, so I don't PvP much anymore anyhow. But when I actually had an interest in trying it out again, I get continuously ganked.
Now, I have a point to make here, and here it goes......Stop complaining on the boards because PvP is dead, or dying or anything else. Because if the way I was treated in PvP is any indication to how others are treated, then I must say, you have only done it to yourselves.
I attempted to act as though I was slightly bothered by it, because I wanted to see how they would react. Well, I must tell ya, taunting and "LRN2PvP" was yet another indicating factor to me that shows why so few care to enter the zones.
I am an old has been of PvP, started PvPing when Arena came out, and was hard core until RV came out. Once IOs came out, that was enough for me.
I just wanted to point out my findings, from a new players perspective. That is honestly not the way to pull in more people to PvP.
Anyway, hope this reaches certain people and opens the minds of others. I see too much "DOOOOOM!" sayers to PvP because of the lack of PvP population. If people are really that concerned with the population of PvP, then perhaps you should try not ganking on the new guys so much, and give them a bit of breathing room. I also noticed the people who are normally there, were virtually left alone. That to me is not how you get others interested in PvP.
Personally, I don't care. I thought about getting back into it for about ten minutes, after seeing how I was dealt with, I honestly care not to get back into it again. In short, chill out on the new guys.

i pvp'd for the first time the other day, and loved it. it was a good time. went back yesterday and fought a guy. killed him. he came back, got him again. he gets a friend, i kill him once. after this, we are chasing each other all over. it was a blast. i would start fighting one, and the other would swoop in before i could take him all the way down. i would try to hang on with both, but couldn't and ran, went back and start again. they eventually killed me(no biggy, was having a blast) when duty calls and i have to go. i send a tell to the first guy and say thanks, i had a great time. gotta run.

not "me too" or anything else, not like i hadn't collected 2 bounties on him and one on his boy. he is now my first /ignore.
i don't have a problem with trash talk while pvping. if it can distract your opponent, cool. but when all i am doing is thanking you for a good time, the least you could do is be civil.
edit: i would like to add that i have only had the one "problem". i have now battled 6 or 7 people (lost more than i won, but had a great time) and that was the only one. if that happened to be the first person that i had battled, it may well have kept me away. thank goodness there seem to be enough people who realize it is a game, and try to have fun.
Please don't let 12 year old zone PvPers ruin your fun.

I had to move a character to Freedumb JUST to find anyone in zones to fight. GG Devs!!! You got my 10.00 for a server swap!! Wonder how many other people been sucka's like me!

i came back simply because everything else on the market is just as crap and truth be told COH pve isnt as terrible as other games...
pre i13 there was always something in the zones, post i13 even freedoms zones are totally dead in comparison to i12, in my eyes i13 was a failure.
I admit there are some things i quite like now, mez res not protection for one but some things are just stupid, supressing defence and adding in elusivity (that i can only imagine is severely broken if arcanaville is saying its too strong), supressing when anything at all happens ever, I thought i was being attacked when i popped a yellow insp
